Michael Searcy Obituary

Joe Searcy aka "Joey" "Searc",65, of Weston MO, passed away on April 22nd, 2023. Born in Smithville MO on February 18th, 1958, Joe was the son of Ronald "RJ" and Janice Searcy. He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Jeff Searcy. Joe is survived by his wife, Charla, mother, Janice, and daughters, Jessica Sherwood (Tim) and Michaela Contreras (Jason), as well as his grandchildren, Jackson, Brockston, and Kohlston Sherwood. Nephews, Mathew (Lauren) and Mitchell Searcy. Also, let's not forget Joe's partner in crime, his four-legged best bud, Scooby. Joe was as funny as he was charming and was loved by anyone who crossed his path. Joe's humor and charisma were as legendary as was his strength. He was an extraordinary man, an inspiration to many, and a friend to all. He'll be missed but never forgotten, and he'll always be remembered with a smile on our faces and a joke in our minds. Joe had a strong will and determination that helped him conquer life's challenges. Despite his diagnosis of a stage 3 malignant brain tumor ten years ago, Joe refused to give up. He beat the odds that were not in his favor and then went on to crush throat cancer 5 years later, and 2 more recent isolated episodes of skin cancer. Joe was a master at making people laugh, but he also knew how to take care of business. He graduated from West Platte High School and earned certificates in Engineering, HVAC, Welding, and Electrical from Ferris State University. He was a true renaissance man. In his younger years, Joe owned and operated the well-known Historic RJ's Bar in Weston, MO. He was the Facility Manager for AMC Construction and the Chief Engineer for Embassy/ Mainstay/ Homestead Suites. He retired as the Regional Facility Manager for Extended Stay Hotels, and his hard work and dedication won him numerous awards, certificates, and that "I told you so" look. Joe's free time through the years included mushroom hunting, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, skydiving, shopping, coaching softball, umpiring baseball, traveling, solving crossword puzzles, relaxing in the recliner and cheering on his favorite sports teams, the KC Royals, Mizzou Tigers, and KC Chiefs. Joe was a man of strong faith and attended church regularly. A Celebration of Life will be held at Tanners in Platte City, MO on Saturday, May 13th, from 6pm10pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at Wells Bank Platte City, MO. Joe's life was like a lighthouse that illuminates a path to inspire many other lives. He was loved. He was special. Joe made this world a brighter place. Now in the heavens, he'll forever radiate his vibrant light. Rest in peace, Joe. You will be deeply missed by all who knew you. Celebrate his life with a beer at the next Chiefs game.
