Rita Casoni

Rita Casoni

Age - 95

November 6, 2023

Rita (Pellegrini) Casoni, age 95 of the North End, died on Saturday, November 4th at Stone Rehabilitation and Senior Living in Newton. She was the wife of the late Pietrino Casoni. Born and raised in Canetolo, Italy, Mrs. Casoni was the daughter of the late Luigi and Delfina (Mattei) Pellegrini. After marrying her husband in Italy, Rita realized that America had opportunities that were not available in Italy and the decision was made to emigrate to America. She has been a resident of the North End since 1951. At a very young age, she prayed to God and the Blessed Mother for guidance and strength and corresponded with Padre Pio. As a teenager and adult, God was always at the center of her life. She always told us that God was always there for us. Later in life, she became a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Sacred Heart Church and later at Saint Leonard's Church. Rita worked as a Social Worker at the Northend Health Center for 35 years. She was well known in the Northend as a caring and selfless worker, always giving her time to those in need. She counseled the elderly in the 70, 80 and 90 age groups and worked with the Docters of the Northend Health Center, providing translating support, for all the Italian speaking people of the Northend. At the request of the visiting Doctors from MGH, she organized discussion groups for the Italian speaking women to share their experiences growing up in Italy, and their life in America. These groups grew to over 100 participants. They were very successful. My mother visited her patients in their homes and long-term care facilities. The doctors of the Northend Health Center and MGH would reach out to her when they had difficulty communicating to an Italian speaking person. Rita always gave her best to her family. For many years, she would cook a four-course meal when her sons, daughters-in-law or grandchildren had a birthday. She always wanted to get her family together to celebrate. Those were the times she enjoyed most. Mrs. Casoni is survived by her two sons, Joseph Casoni and his wife Donna of Dedham and Adelmo Casoni and his wife Gina of Everett; brother-in-law, Rodolfo Bruno of Rocky Hill, CT. ; three nephews, Fabrizio Pellegrini of Italy, Paul Bruno of Windsor CT and Giuseppe Bruno of Wethersfield, CT; four grandchildren, Peter Casoni, Christina Casoni, Angela Smith and Joseph Casoni; six great grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Jovie Casoni, Owen Casoni, Jaxson Casoni, Thomas Casoni and Charlotte Holly. She was predeceased by her brother Renato Pellegrini, sisters-in-law Elsa Mattei and Maria Bruno. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to St. Leonard's Church at saintleonardchurchboston. org/donate.
