Michael Patrick Morley September 8, 1940 - June 18, 2022 Michael passed away suddenly doing what he loved best - being in his garden and preparing for a family celebration. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; children Mary, Michael, Sarah, Colin, and Katheryn; and grandchildren Emma, Kayley, Kelsey, Kieran, Michael, Kameron, and Seamus. Michael was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the only child of two Irish immigrants, Winifred McDermott and Michael Morley. Throughout his life, he was deeply connected to his Irish Catholic heritage, and he spent much of his free time educating himself and others about Irish culture and politics. As a young man, Michael became very involved in writing and producing news and had a lifelong passion for investigative journalism. He went to high school at Brooklyn Preparatory School, a highly selective Jesuit school, where he contributed to their literary magazine. At Manhattan College, he was the editor of the yearbook and served as the news editor of the Quadrangle newspaper. After college, he worked at NBC news in New York, where he became a film editor. He eventually moved to NBC Chicago, where he edited the nightly news, and he became an Emmy Award-winning editor at PBS. He also produced a decades-long cable television show called the IrishTV. US, a bi-weekly celebration of Irish and Celtic music and news topics, and regularly wrote columns in the Irish American News. Later in his career, Michael became a stationary engineer and worked at the Chicago Water Reclamation District for 17 years before retiring in 2011. After retiring, he enjoyed writing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family. The visitation will be Thursday, June 23 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Peterson-Bassi Chapels, 6938 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60707. Funeral mass will be on Friday, June 24 at 11:00 am at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 528 Lathrop Avenue River Forest, IL 60305.
