Michael ‘Mike’ Lee Moellendorf, age 66, of Merrill, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at his home. He was born on September 15, 1956, to the late Marvin and Margaret (Kummerow) Moellendorf in Wausau, WI. Mike graduated from Wausau West High School and attended Northcentral Technical College for the next 2 years, earning his associate degree in marketing. He met the love of his life and soul mate, Deborah Buettner, and the two lovingly exchanged marriage vows on November 12, 1993, in Wausau. She survives. Mike was a social person that enjoyed his job and community very much. He was the station manager for Sunrise Broadcasting Bluejay 96. 3 and the senior account executive. Prior jobs included Whiteco Outdoor Advertising, Hadley Office Products, teaching classes at area technical colleges and owning his own businesses. Mike enjoyed being on the lake and would look forward to his early morning walk with his wife. He loved being on the pontoon and enjoying the beautiful nature all around them. Mike enjoyed fishing and deer hunting and looked forward to the next deer season at the Luedtke Lodge. In his younger years, he was a little league pitcher in Wausau, an avid bowler, where he was in many leagues, the non pro tour and in the 700 Club and he enjoyed his time on the green playing some rounds of golf. Mike had a passion and interest in sports, especially college sports, and he loved watching the little league games. He was a proud Vikings fan and watched their football games every chance he had. Mike is remembered as a creative, problem-solving man, that was an excellent caregiver for his parents and had an extraordinarily strong faith in God. He was a reflective person and cherished his close friendships. Mike was a past member of the Merrill Eagles Club, volunteered for Special Olympics, Sunday School Teacher and past president of First English Lutheran Church in Wausau and was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill, where he ensured their weekly radio broadcasts were heard across the air waves and served on church council. Mike will be sadly missed, but fond memories of him will remain. Mike is survived by his wife: Deborah ‘Debbie’ Moellendorf of Merrill, sisters: VerJean Detert and Maralee Moellendorf, both of Wausau, brother: James ‘Jim’ (Nancy) Moellendorf of Huntley, IL, nieces: Michelle Detert and Jessica (Peter) Himmelreich, with their son, Harvey, nephews: Todd (Carolyn) Detert, with their children: Aidan and Brooklynn, Corey (Julia) Detert, with their daughters: Natalie and Daphne and Jeff (Carla) Moellendorf, with their children: Olivia and Lloyd. He is further survived by their dog, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law: Wayne Detert and his beloved dog: Abby. The funeral service for Mike will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill, and again on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 10:00am until the time of service, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date. The service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend, it will be posted under his obituary on the funeral home website and will start at 11:00am on Friday, September 1, 2023. Cindy (Sense) Salzman, age 59, of Merrill, passed away on November 23, 2023, with her family by her side fighting her short battle of cancer. Cindy was born on December 10, 1963, in Merrill, daughter of the late LeRoy and JoAnn (Lodholz) Sense. She married Bradley Salman on September 27, 1986, at Faith Lutheran Church, Village of Maine. Cindy attended Merrill High School. She was a former employee of Mitchell Metals and was currently working seasonally at Russ David Wholesale. She was a homemaker and took care of her daughters and later on her grandchildren. Cindy was a member of L & L Tree Dodgers Snowmobile Club. She was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church and was a Sunday school teacher. She was on a pool league in her younger years. Cindy enjoyed listening to country and polka bands with her friends and family. Cindy was a social butterfly who always knew someone wherever she went. Cindy loved riding her side-by-side and snowmobile. She was also passionate about riding her grandfather's Massey Harrison at local tractor pulls. Survivors include her husband, Bradley Salzman; two daughters, Sherri (Andy) White and Michelle Salzman; two sisters, Cheryl (Rod) Dahlke and Chris (Keith) Williams; and three grandchildren, Jackson, Ava, and Noah. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and JoAnn Sense; brother, Jeffrey Sense; and father-in-law, Robert Salzman. The funeral service for Cindy will be held at 11:00 A. Harry Donald Doering, 95, of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, formerly of Merrill, WI, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023, at his home in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Harry was born June 16, 1928, and raised in Doering, Wisconsin. He graduated from Merrill High School and later attended Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee, where he met Joyce Beaudry. They were married on October 22, 1955, in Merrill. Harry worked as a salesperson for the Rhinelander Paper Company for most of his life and was the owner of Doering Trees, selling Christmas trees and evergreen products throughout the Northern Illinois area. Harry was a Korean War Veteran. His passion was spending time at his cabin in the woods on a lake his father developed and built in Gleason, Wisconsin. Harry loved traveling with his wife Joyce including trips to Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Netherlands, Switzerland and many other amazing destinations throughout the world. Harry was a devoted race fan and attended the Indy 500 car race for over 50 years. He also enjoyed attending and watching Green Bay Packer football games. Ricky 'Rick' Lyle Henrichs passed away on October 17th, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family. Rick was born in Merrill on September 11th, 1955, son of the late Lylas and Ethel (Kleinschmidt) Henrichs. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Merrill High School. He worked at various positions in Merrill, with 33 years at Rite Screen. Rick married the love of his life, Beverly Allen on Christmas Eve, 1978 and enjoyed 45 years of marriage. Their first date was at the Grand Theater in Wausau for an Elvis Presley tribute on the big screen. He enjoyed rock and country music which he played frequently on the weekends. He built and drove stock cars at Tomahawk and Wausau speedways, enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, and hunting. But he was most happy living in his cottage in the woods with Beverly. Rick is survived by his wife Beverly; daughters Robbin (Jan) Seehafer and Christine Zuelsdorff, both of Merrill; grandchildren Valerie (Jeremy) Wilmink, Schylur (Alexandria) Seehafer, Olivia (Brogan) Aarrestad, and Noah Wilmink; sisters Kate Whitt and Patricia (Larry) Schwartz; brother-in-Law Mark Allen; sister-in-law Joanne (Monty) Sczygelski; and many nieces and nephews. Clifford Frank Gronholm Sr. June 3, 1950 - November 2, 2023Clifford Frank Gronholm Sr. , 73, of Merrill, WI, passed away on November 2, 2023. He was born on June 3, 1950, in Ashland WI, to the late Kosti and Helen Gronholm. Clifford was an Electrician for his entire career until retirement. He was a member of IBEW Local 430 and the National Electrical Contractors Association. One of his favorite memories was being directly involved in installing the electrical at the Racine County Zoo. Clifford had a wide variety of electrical experience, from climbing power poles to residential, industrial, and institutional work. Retiring from the State of Wisconsin where he worked at Racine Correctional Institution as an electrician. Clifford had a green thumb and loved gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Cliff was a long-time member of the WBFA and had a passion for fishing in bass tournaments, hunting, and golf. He cherished the weekly card game nights and Trivial Pursuit gatherings with his family. Oldies Country music could always be heard playing on his radio. Ray O’Malley, age 63, of Merrill, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at his home under the care of Interim Hospice. He was born on March 15, 1960, in Waukesha to the late Donald and Joan (Neman) O’Malley. Ray graduated from Pewaukee High School with the class of 1978 and continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a degree in Animal Science. Through the years Ray served his Country in the Army National Guard. Ray started his career with Rural Mutual Insurance as a Claims Rep working for them 33 years until his early retirement November 17, 2021 due to a rare lung disease that he battled with for over 8 years. In his earlier years Ray was an athletic young man, which included wrestling, football, a cross-country runner and continued in later years with many marathons receiving medals showing the accomplishments of a man dedicated to running the race. After moving to Merrill in 1994, which he then called home, he met and married his wife, Korrine (Koch) of 22 years. Ray was ready to take on a family to call his own, Korrine and the twin boys, adding two more children to the family. As a young man he was known to work at a local farm, and help with the many chores with his sisters and brothers at the family business. He had a passion for animals and gardening being known for his strawberry jam that was shared amongst many. Ray was a man who loved the outdoors, hiking, camping and hunting as a lifetime passion. Missing the last few years out on the trails, hunting deer, but never missing time shared with the family and friends at the shack, even up to the last visit on the day of his passing. Family and friends stopped in to visit, which will be memorable to all. As the family gave him one of his favorite tours around the property and down to the Wisconsin River, he got to enjoy the beautiful fall colors and once again, after many years, enjoyed sitting down at the river taking in the company and scenery. Ray was known as a kind, gentle, spirited, hard working man with a great sense of humor with a heart to help anyone in need. Whatever he put his hands to, it got done. The life and times of Ray will be remembered by all, as a man who loved and cared for you. He loved his family, near and far and always seemed to be caught up on what everyone was up to. He will be missed dearly. Thomas "Tom" James Frisch of Merrill, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023 at his home in Merrill. He was born on August 22, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Ervin and Florene (Mootz) Frisch. Tom loved hunting, fishing and guns. He was an avid gun collector and dealer. He loved making trips to North Dakota for ice fishing and he recently enjoyed his 50th year of bird hunting in North Dakota. Tom was a quiet man who loved his family dearly. Tom is survived by his brother: Tony (Diane) Frisch with their sons, Jesse (Kelly) Frisch along with their children; Lani, Crosby, and Joey, and Scott (Danielle) along with their son; Rowan, and further survived by his brother: Dr. Todd (Linda) Frisch with his children, Casey (Jeremy) Miller along with their child; Sunny, Toby Frisch along with his children; Olivia, Vera, Ava, and Finn, and Abbie (Tyler) Belliston along with their child; Coltrane. Tyler James Cole, age 16, of Tomahawk and Wausau, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, as the result of a car accident. He was born on August 16, 2007 to Joshua Cole and Ashley Carstensen in Wausau, WI. He was currently in the 11th grade at Tomahawk High School. Tyler enjoyed doing various jobs, whether it was building, making something or concrete work, he enjoyed it, especially when Blake was helping. He was looking forward to working with heavy machinery when he was out of high school. Tyler loved his snacks and would grab a bowl of ice cream every chance he had! He enjoyed four-wheeling, hunting and fishing, playing softball, but he really looked forward to winter when he could go snowmobiling. Tyler liked to work on tractors for tractor pulls, splitting wood in his overalls and played softball and baseball for Tomahawk High School. He was a passionate and determined guy when it was about things that he liked, and was always up for a good time with his close friends. Tyler will be sadly missed by so many people, but he will never be forgotten. Paulette A. Robinson, age 76, of Merrill, Wisconsin passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 in Wausau, Wisconsin at Aspirus Hospice House. She was born on June 28, 1947 in Merrill, Wisconsin, the daughter of Norman and Bernice (Luedtke) Wetterau. Paulette was united in marriage to David Czech in 1968 and later divorced. Paulette was united in marriage to Ben Robinson on January 28, 1984. He died on November 25, 2013. Paulette graduated 8th grade from the last one room county school, Park School. She graduated Merrill High School with the class of ’65. After graduation she worked for Farmer Employers Insurance, Semling-Menke, then took a leave to get married and a have family. Once her children were in school, she went back to work. She worked at Merrill Gravel and Construction and then her final job was with Lincoln County Commission on Aging. After retiring, she stayed at home for a few years and then started volunteering at Park Place room meal site, and later became a resident of Park Place. Paulette also enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, reading, antiquing and collecting teddy bears. Paulette is survived by her sons: Christopher (Lisa) Czech and Michael (Lynn) Czech, step-children: Joseph (Grace) Sophia, and Dana (Doug) Peterson, grandchildren: Emily (Tucker) Roesler, Derek, Valerie and Vanessa Czech, Bethany, Allie, Benjamin, and Tabetha Durdall, and Daniel, Aiden, and Jeremy Peterson, great-grandchildren: Braxton, Willow and Maverick, sister: Kathy (Ken) Brice, sister-in-law: Sheri Wetterau, many nieces and nephews and special friends: Joy Haehlke and Diane Ziebell. Paulette was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Robinson, brother, Russell Wetterau and parents. Arlys Maria Bourdage, age 73, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at her home. She was born in Duluth, MN in 1950, the daughter of Norman R. and Hattie (Carlson) Bourdage. She and Richard A. Johnson were united in marriage in Merrill on June 30, 1979. After graduating from high school in Two Harbors, MN, and graduating from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, with a degree in Health Information Management, Arlys was employed for seven years at Appleton Memorial Hospital in Appleton, WI, before joining Aspirus Merrill Hospital (formerly Holy Cross Hospital, Ministry and Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital) as Director of Medical Records, a position she held until 2000. She then transitioned to a medical coder position until her full retirement in 2016. Arlys’ second life was bowling, not just the sport of it (carrying a 180+ average for more than 20 years), but the administrative side. She served as the Merrill Area USBC Association Manager (previously called Secretary – Treasurer) from 1995 through current, Youth Association manager from 2006-2018. She also served as the Merrill 600 Club Secretary – Treasurer from 2004 to present. She was a director on the Merrill Bowling Hall of Fame Board, as well as an inductee into that Hall in 2000. Arlys also served as the Secretary – Treasurer/Tournament Manager for the Wisconsin State 600 Bowling Club from 2004-2022. She had been an officer of bowling leagues throughout the years, served as a Merrill delegate to the WI State USBC many years, was a member of the Wisconsin Bowling Writers’ Club, and served on one of the State Association committees. In recognition of her bowling service and dedication to the sport, Arlys was honored in 2014 as a "Women of Distinction" by the WI State Women’s Bowling Association. Arlys also enjoyed golfing, kayaking, traveling (snow-birding to parts of the south for many years), reading and playing the slots. She was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Community in Merrill, serving as sacristan and lector. Survivors include her husband, Richard Johnson; twin daughters, Alycia Rae Johnson, LaCrosse, WI, and Lauren Renee (Ryan) Whalen, Cottage Grove, WI; granddaughter, Haddie Rae Whalen and step-granddaughter, Taylor Whalen. She is further survived by brothers; Normand (Geri), Two Harbors, MN, Armand (Diane), Vancouver, VA, and Roland (Sharon), Cloquet, MN, and sister-in-law; Sharon Bourdage, Delmont, PA. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother; Raymond Bourdage and nephew; Joseph Bourdage. A Mass of Christian Burial for Arlys will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 11:30am, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill. Father Jim Horath will officiate.
