Michael H. Matthews, 73, passed away on October 4, 2023. He was born on February 11, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY to Harry and Gertrude (nee DuPaul) Matthews. Michael grew up in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Bishop Ford High School. After high school, he attended Brooklyn College for his undergrad before completing both an MBA and a M. A. in History at Fordham University. Michael married Mary Hearon in 1976, and they were happily married for nearly 47 years. He was a devoted father and husband. Michael greatly enjoyed participating in the community of Breezy Point, where he made his family's home in 1996. He cherished a long career as a university professor and loved educating students about history in the classroom. Prior to this he was a real estate appraiser. Michael was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Gertrude, and is survived by his wife Mary, his daughters Debbie (Michael) Valentine and Kim Matthews, and his grandson Lucas Valentine. The wake will be held at Marine Park Funeral Home (3024 Quentin Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11234) Sunday, October 8th from 2:00 - 6:00 PM and Monday, October 9th from 2:00 - 5:00 PM and 7:00 -9: 00 PM. The funeral will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, October 10th at St. Thomas More Church (204-25 Rockaway Point Boulevard Rockaway Point, New York 11697). Burial will immediately follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research:

John Abbaticchio, age 97, of Brooklyn, New York passed away in his home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Jersey City, NJ. Known for his unwavering dedication to his family, friends and neighbors, John was a generous man who deeply cared for his loved ones. Whether it was chauffeuring a neighbor to a doctor's appointment or joyfully picking up his grandchildren from school, his kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him. John was born to Archangelo and Maria on Aug. 28, 1926 in Jersey City and was one of six brothers and sisters--Luco, Rose, Fay, Tom and Peggy. John bravely served as a paratrooper in the Korean War before meeting his wife Jean, with whom he was married for over 60 years. A dedicated worker, John devoted many years to Cosmo Mech, where he was the only person in the U. S. who knew how to skillfully operate and fix a specialized Japanese spring machine. John continued contributing his skills even after retirement, providing guidance to various spring companies until shortly before his passing. John loved old Western movies, video poker, and, most importantly, his cherished great-grandchildren. His love for them was immeasurable. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Gina Poggi, and his granddaughters and son-in-laws, Jeanine Poggi Alfredo and Alex Alfredo, and Danielle and William Lembo. John's legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Jonathan Alfredo, and Lucy and Theodore Lembo. He is now reunited with his wife Jean Abbaticchio, who passed away in 2016. May he rest in peace, forever remembered for his strength, devotion and the love he shared with all who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life. "HOLDEN - Kimball R. Gross, 88, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at UMass Memorial Healthcare after taking ill at home. Born in Auburn, New York and raised in Hudson Falls, Kim was the son of Harry E. and Ruth (Russell) Gross and lived the last 54 years in Holden. His beloved wife of 58 years, Alice P. (Palmer) Gross died in 2014. Kim was a graduate of Union College in Schenectady, NY and was a group underwriter for State Mutual Insurance Co. for over 30 years retiring from Hanover Insurance Group in 1994. He was an active member of Toastmasters International, where he honed his public speaking skills and inspired others with his eloquence. His passion for effective communication not only made him an outstanding speaker but also as a mentor to many aspiring individuals. Kim also found solace and joy in the harmonious world of barbershop quartet singing. He was a proud member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbar Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). His deep love of rich, a cappella harmonies that defined this musical tradition brought him together with like-minded individuals who shared in the joy of creating beautiful melodies. He was a faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Holden where he served on the church council and sang in the choir. Kim will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Beyond his achievements and contributions, Kim was a devoted father to Stephen R. Gross of Holden, Ronald D. Gross of Stores, CT, and David A. Gross of Rutland; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, Christopher, Melissa, Sarah and, Jessica; two great-grandchildren, Samantha, and Damian. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Kim\u0027s family from 3 to 5 on Sunday, December 10, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. , Holden. She graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in New Orleans (her beloved Wa-Lo-Co, Class of 1969) and furthered her education at Xavier University of Louisiana. In her early years she was a member of Progressive Baptist Church. She enjoyed careers within the insurance and banking industries and was also a proud New Orleans Saints Who Dat family member. Marsha leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Dannielle L'Ney Small; two devoted sisters Carol H.
