Michael Maag Obituary

Michael E. Maag, 74, a resident of Davenport, Iowa passed away at his home on Saturday, August 12, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family after an extended illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A. M. on Friday, August 18, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Davenport where he was a member. Entombment will follow at Davenport Memorial Park where military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4:00 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. on Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf and from 9:00 A. M. to 10:00 A. M. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or the Congregation of the Humility of Mary. Mike was born on June 25, 1949, in Davenport, the son of Joseph A. "Tony" and Clara (Musal) Maag Sr. and was a 1967 graduate of Bettendorf High School. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Viet Nam Conflict. When his brother, Joe was killed in Viet Nam, Mike escorted his body home to Iowa. On April 17, 1971, he was united in marriage to Linda G. McCandless at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. He was employed as a Lieutenant with the East Moline Correctional Center, retiring after over 20 years of service. In earlier years, he was a police officer in LeClaire, Iowa where he also served as Chief of Police. Mike graduated from the Iowa Police Academy and from the Illinois Department of Corrections Academy. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, bowling with the Saturday Night Misfits for 20 years and was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Linda; his daughters, Kelly (Dustin) Hull of Muir, Pennsylvania, and Jamie (Christopher Wyjack) Baker of Davenport; his grandchildren, Haley (Hunter) Pauley, Hanah (Xavier Scritchfield) Fuessel, Brooke (Drake Williamson) Baker and Rylan Baker; his great-grandson, Leo Michael Scritchfield; and his brothers, Kenneth (Alice) Maag of Rantoul, Illinois, and Jay Maag of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his brother, Pfc. Joseph A. Maag Jr. , his sister, Sandra Trulock; and his parents, Tony and Clara Maag.
