Michael August Kelley, 76 an Omaha attorney, died Friday September 8, 2023. Mike was born on December 21,1946 to Thomas P. Kelley and Maxine Clausen Kelley in Omaha, Nebraska. Mike attended and completed his education at Christ the King School, Creighton Prep and Creighton University, where he was a member of the varsity men's golf team. In 1972, Mike graduated from Creighton University School of Law. Following his graduation from law school, Mike practiced law with his father, the late Thomas P. Kelley. Mike's law practice was diverse, representing clients from all walks of life. Mike also served as a Commissioner on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners having been elected to the then countywide seat in1984. After leaving the Douglas County Board of Commissioners, Mike's professional practice was centered on government relations and lobbying, primarily before the Nebraska Unicameral and various state and local government boards and councils, most notably the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. In addition to Mike's legal and government career, Mike and his father, Tom, founded Clancy's Pub formerly located at 72 & Pacific Streets. Mike also was the owner of Zesto's on 13 Street next to Rosenblatt Stadium before eventually opening a Zesto's and Blatt Beer & Table at 12 and Mike Fahey Streets next to Charles Schwab Field. Mike was an avid golfer and sports fan, particularly of his beloved Chicago Cubs and Creighton Bluejays. Mike was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. Mike is survived by his spouse, Kathleen Doherty Kelley; three sons: Tom (Kara), James, and Sean (Katie); and seven grandchildren: Kate, Tommy, Jack and Elon Grace, Reilly, Fitz and Madailein May. VISITATION: Wednesday, September 13 from 5:15pm to 6:30pm at Christ the King Catholic Church, 654 S. 86 St, followed by WAKE SERVICE at 6:30pm. FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, September 14 at 10:30am at Christ the King Catholic Church. Memorials suggested to Creighton University, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Christ the King Catholic Church.

After a more than a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Leonard peacefully passed away on Sunday, Nov. 26. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice; daughters, Lenal Bottoms (Tom), Jackie Chamberlain (Mike); and granddaughter, Allison Bottoms. Leonard was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Leonard joined the Army as a reservist in 1962. Through the years, he served in a combination of civilian and active Army roles. He began his career as an infantry man. He graduated Officer Candidate School as a 2 Lieutenant. He went through the ranks and became a Colonel in 1992. In 1997, Leonard was selected to take a unit to Germany for a Bosnia Herzegovina peacekeeping mission. He retired in 2001 with almost 40 years of service to our country. Leonard was active in the church, starting as an altar boy at the age of 10. He served the church as a lector, EMHC, usher, and sacristan. Leonard had a strong faith life and attended daily mass for many years. He was also a Third and Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight during his retirement. Leonard was active in many volunteer organizations. As an American Legion member, he coordinated color guard activities for many years. He transported blood for the American Red Cross. He also coached his daughters' softball teams. Hobbies included fishing, bowling, golfing, boating, waterskiing, and woodworking. He was an excellent mechanic and an avid runner. VISITATION: Sunday, December 3, 2023, 1:30-3:30 p. m. at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 16701 S St. , followed by a VIGIL SERVICE at 3:30 p. m. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Monday, December 4, 2023, 10:30 a. m. at church. INTERMENT: Omaha National Cemetery with Military Honors: 2:30 p. m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family who will distribute them to various organizations.
