Maria Kramedas
Age - 84
November 29, 2023
Maria Kramedas, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 25th, 2023, one day before her 85th birthday. Maria was born in Chania on the Greek Island of Crete to the late Menelous and Kyriaki Malaxianaki. The family later moved to Athens, Greece, where she worked as a beautician. In 1965, she married the late Theodore "Ted" Kramedas and moved to the United States, settling in Dover, DE. In Dover, she took care of her family and supported her husband who was a co-owner in the Kramedas family business, the Hub Restaurant, until his passing in 1981. Maria moved to the Hockessin/Pike Creek area in 1995 to be closer to her children, grandchildren, extended family and to her church. She loved to cook Greek dishes and bake her famous desserts for family and friends; enjoyed spending time in her "happy place" Rehoboth Beach; and was very involved with Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, including the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the annual Greek Festival. Maria loved nothing more than spending time with her family; cherishing being Yiayia to her grandchildren, never missing a school event, sporting activity or performance; and traveling with her family to fun places like Greece, Sanibel Island and Disney World. Maria is survived by her children, Spero Kramedas (Julie), and Cindy Spence (Jason); her grandchildren, Katie Swenson (Garrett), Christopher Kramedas, Jake Spence and Justin Spence; her step-daughter, Diane Pusey; her sisters-in-law, Genie Kramedas, Tina Kramedas, Angie Watkins and Dina Malaxianaki; the Brockington family and the Hudson family; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Maria was preceded in death by her siblings, Speros Malaxianaki (Mary) and Yannis Malaxianaki; and Jack & Kay Spence. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19806, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10:00am. Interment will be held in Lakeside Cemetery, 558 N. State Street, Dover, DE 19901 following the church service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a kind donation to the Alzheimer's Association (alz. org), Compassionate Care Hospice (c/o Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816), or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Wilmington, Delaware (holytrinitywilmington. org).
