Michael Hayes Obituary

Dennis Michael Hayes, age 71, of Derby, entered into rest on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Griffin Hospital with his loving family by his side. He is the beloved husband of 10 years to Irene (DeLorenzo) Hayes. Michael was born on October 15, 1951, the son of the late Anne Lenz and Edward Hayes. Michael spent most of his life in Rocky Hill until moving to Derby in 2011. He was a huge sports fan, especially hockey and baseball. He was a devoted Whalers and Redsox fan. He was an avid listener of music, especially rock. Michael was a history buff and adored Native American art. You could often find him watching his favorite old westerns and the National Lampoon movies. He was also a talented landscaper and loved to use the arborvitae tree in his landscaping design. Michael is the devoted father of Andrew Hayes (Bethany), Dana Russo (Joseph), and Monica Hayes, the adored grandfather of Charlotte, the brother of Maryann Anagnos, Julie Gifford (Charles), and Rhodie Johnson (Kenneth) and the brother-in-law of Carol Hayes as well as the favorite uncle to several nieces and nephews and leaves behind many beloved cousins. He also leaves behind his favorite pets, his dog Georgia, his cat Roger (Daltrey) and his bird, Smokey. Michael was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Kotchen, and brothers John Hayes and his wife Janice, Edward Hayes and his wife Barbara, and Tom Hayes. Friends may greet Michael's family from 2-5pm on Thursday, September 14 at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd. Shelton.
