A Celebration of Life Gathering for Michael Allen Hankins, 55, of West Des Moines, Iowa, who passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 in Des Moines, will be held 6 to 8 p. m. , Monday, October 9, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Mike was born on March 11, 1968 to Allen and Phyllis Hankins in Des Moines, Iowa. He lived in Norwalk until graduating from high school in 1986. While in high school, he was active in Track and Field. Following high school, he continued his education at DMACC and transferred to Iowa State University, where he graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Ag Business. While in high school, he showed sheep, cattle and horses in 4-H. He also showed in open horse shows, with the Pick-Up race being his specialty. Mike was always willing to help others and cared deeply about friends, family and his pets. He loved to read and learn new things and collected Coleman lanterns. He was always up for a new challenge. Mike's passions were the Ag Industry, hunting, fishing and trapping. He loved being adventurous and traveling, enjoyed the Iowa State Cyclones and the Denver Broncos. Mike is survived by his daughter, Allison Hankins; parents, Allen and Phyllis Hankins; sister, Sonya (Marty) Chittenden and children Blake and Sierra; uncle, Duane Hankins; and significant-other Donna Reasoner. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Melford and Ethel Rosander and Kenneth and Regina Hankins.

Cheryl Ann (Frey) Lyall, 72, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon doing one of the things she loved, going to see friends at an art show. Services will be held 3:00 p. m. , Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held prior to services, from 1 to 3:00 pm, at the funeral home. Inurnment and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Cheryl was born February 16, 1951, in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Maxine (Mace) Frey. She graduated among the top of her class from Villisca High School in 1969. Following graduation, she attended Westmar College, graduating in 1972, with a degree in Mathematics. During college, she had an internship with the United Nations and was one of the few women selected for this prestigious honor. She was united in marriage with Robert Lyall in 1985 and they had two daughters. Cheryl started blazing her own path at an early age. She participated in 4-H, created her own clothes, and was active in sports and extracurricular activities, throughout high school. She loved roller skating and scuba-diving. Cheryl was one of the first female computer programmers starting in the 1970s. She worked in South Carolina and Chicago, before moving to Des Moines, Iowa. Before retiring from CDS Global, she had a long career with Statesmen Group, and The Freedom Group. She constantly found ways to make all feel welcomed, often going above and beyond, many times after hours, in the middle of the night, or simply when someone requested help. Cheryl enjoyed sewing, embordering, making art, playing cards and being with family. She is survived by her husband Robert; daughters, Brooks Lyall and Morgan (Matt) Ginder; grandson, Charles; sister-in-law, Shirley Frey; sibling, Lyle (Susan) Frey; sisters-in-law, Mary Schmidt (Michael Clark), Connie Lyall; and nieces and nephews, Heidi (James) Frey, Michelle (Tony) Frey-Tarbox, Stacey (Jordan) Frey-Chidester, Michael Schmidt, Patrick Schmidt, Emily Schmidt (Sean) Dohoney, Christina Lyall, Nicholle Pendergraft, Sara Lyall, Paul Lyall and Sarah Lyall. Cheryl was proceeded in death by her parents Walter and Maxine Frey, her brother Curtis Frey, and her brother-in-law Glen Lyall. Visitation will be held 1-3:00 p. m. , Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Services for Christine Amelia "Christy" Schrum, 42, of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away early Friday morning, November 17, 2023, will be held 10:30 a. m. , Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Indianola. Christy was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Arlen and Jean Schrum on January 30, 1981. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and Indianola, with older sister Katherine "Katie" and younger sister Elizabeth "Beth. " Christy graduated from Indianola High School in 1999 and from the University of Northern Iowa in 2003. Christy returned to Indianola in 2014, following work at Walt Disney World and Starwood. While in Florida, Christy developed many close friends and a lifelong love of all things Disney. Regrettably, Christy was unable to achieve her goal of visiting and experiencing Disneyland in California. Since 2014, Christy pursued a career with Walmart, again developing many close friends and colleagues and spending as much time, energy and money, as possible, spoiling her beloved niece and nephews. Christy is survived by her parents; siblings and their families, Katie and Adam Middleswart, Everett and Aileen, and Beth and Stephen Zimmerman, Jason and Grant; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and an uncle and aunt. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p. m. , Monday, November 20, 2023, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Services for Thomasine Ann Rennenger, 79, of Indianola, Iowa, who passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at home, will be held 11 a. m. , Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held, prior to services, from 9:30 to 11 a. m. , at the funeral home. Inurnment of cremains will be held, at a later date, in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel. Thomasine was born on July 28, 1944 in Indianola the daughter of Hartley and Marie (Shriever) Gatrel. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1960. Following graduation, she was united in marriage to Gabe Bowlin and had four children. She was married to John Rennenger and together they had one daughter. Thomasine worked at Hart Supper Value then Simpson College for several years. She also worked at the meat packing plant in Sioux City before going back to Simpson College. Her last job was working for "CDS" Communication Data Services in Des Moines. Thomasine enjoyed flowers and working in her yard, reading romance novels, sewing, and spending time with her family. She and John also enjoyed traveling and taking care of her cats. She is survived by her husband, John Rennenger; children, Gabriel (Sohn) Adams, Thomas (Shellie) Bowlin, Ronald (Sharon) Bowlin, Michael (Kimberly) Bowlin and Danielle Rennenger; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brother, Danny Gatrel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hartley and Marie Gatrel; siblings, Lester Gatrel and Katie Mortz.Show more
