GLYNN, MICHAEL JAMES - Mike - died at his home in Georgetown, Texas on Sunday, May 7, 2023 of congestive heart failure. Born in Gotham Hospital, Manhattan, NY, NY on May 11, 1943, he was the third and youngest child of Samuel Michael Glynn of Limerick, Ireland and Margaret Mary nee McGinnis of Worcester, Massachusetts. Mike was raised in the family home in Middle Village, borough of Queens NY, by his parents and extended family in the roman Catholic traditions and educated by the Jesuits at Brooklyn Preparatory School and by the Franciscans at Siena College, Loudonville NY, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English in December 1965. He met and married Patty Maud Schmid in 1966 in Latham NY. They have two sons, LtGen. James Francis Glynn, USMC and Kevin Michael Glynn, a physician's assistant. After short stints with JH Maloy Construction, Colonie NY, and Travelers Insurance, Albany NY, he taught English Composition and Rhetoric at Hudson Valley Community College, Troy NY, for 32 years until retiring Professor Emeritus in 1999. During his teaching years he worked with Schaap Brothers United Van Lines for twelve summers until starting "Dad Camp" for his pre-teen sons to who he gave his full support in sports and scholastics. In semi-retirement Mike enjoyed working twelve racing seasons at the Stakes Barn, at NYRA's Racetrack in Saratoga Springs NY. Mike and Patty resided in Colonie NY for 45 years before moving to Sun City Texas in 2011 to enjoy the warmer winters. Mike was predeceased by his brother, Fr. Kieran Glynn, OFM (Brendan) in 1973 and his sister, Mary Glynn Spampanato in 2021. He is survived by his wife, Patty and their sons: Jim and his wife, Charlotte Denise, RN MSA, of Quantico VA, and their children Jordan and Tyler; and Kevin and his wife, Dr. Michele Lopez-Glynn, of Seguin TX. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Frank Spampanato, nephew Michael Spampanato and two nieces, Marybeth Fennelly and Brenda Skarlatos and their families, all of Queens NY. Mike will be memorialized privately by the family at a future date. The family suggests donations be made to support your local library or one of the pet rescue or shelter programs in your area.
