Nancy Turner Wenderoth, 99, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed from this life on Thursday, November 30, 2023 and was reunited in heaven with her loving husband Collier on what would have been their 78th wedding anniversary. She was born on January 23, 1924 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Nancy also resided for many years in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Collier Wenderoth, Jr. , parents Robert Ellis Turner and Lois Graham Turner, and her brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Martha Turner. She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Nancy and Harry Robinson of Fort Smith; Gingie and Marc Watson of Marietta, GA; Janie and Randall W. Goins of Fort Smith and Sally and James Jones of Fayetteville. She was "Nannie" to fifteen grandchildren: Tripp Smith of Fort Smith; Collier Smith (Julie) of Fayetteville; Katie Robinson (Kirk) of Fayetteville; Renee Durham (Scott) of Fort Smith; Sara Robinson of Fort Smith; Amanda Mendenhall (Kevin) of Fort Smith; Marc Watson, Jr of Sandy Springs, GA; Margaret Ferguson (Stephen) of Fayetteville; Nancy Cole (Mike) of Dahlonega, GA; Virginia Watson of Atlanta, GA; Aimee Goins Miskov (Jon) of Fort Smith; R. Trent Goins (Megan) of Fort Smith; Caroline Duncan of Norwood, CO; Allison Singleton of Dallas, TX; Jenny Pillar of Fort Smith; sister-in-law Nan Pierce of Hot Springs, AR; four nephews: Bill Pierce, Collier Pierce, James Pierce and John Pierce. Nancy grew up in both Little Rock and Fort Smith and was a graduate of Fort Smith High School where she played the violin and was a majorette. She was a member of DAD (high school sorority). She was a fifty plus year member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, elder and was honored with a lifetime membership award. She also attended The Chapel at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Volunteering and serving others was a passion of hers. She served as Junior League President from 1962-1963 and participated in events affiliated with the Fort Smith Little Theatre, delivered Meals on Wheels for over 30 years, and served on many committees over the years . One committee in particular worked to restore the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock. She served as President of the Hardscrabble Women's Golf Association. She shared her love of cooking and traveling through her popular monthly column "Notes from Nancy's Cooking" for 10 years in the Southwest Times Record. In addition to family recipes passed down from generation to generation, these columns featured culinary finds from her travels around the world. Nancy and her husband Collier made several meaningful lifelong friendships with people from all over the world throughout their travels. She was an avid sports fan and started at a young age listening to the St. Louis Cardinals on the radio with her father. In her later years, at the age of 90, she threw out a first pitch at a St. Louis Cardinals game in St. Louis surrounded by her family. She also loved the Arkansas Razorbacks and Jacksonville Jaguars. Nancy enjoyed playing many sports throughout her lifetime including tennis, golf and swimming. She thoroughly enjoyed long walks on the beach daily at her home in Ponte Vedra, FL. Nancy had a love for entertaining and hosting. Nancy was a lover of flowers and greatly enjoyed sending flowers regularly to loved ones and friends. Her favorite pastime was writing lots of thank you notes---she never missed an opportunity to thank someone in writing and wrote notes daily up until her passing. She enjoyed movies and especially the Hallmark channel. Nancy's grace, courage and strength she portrayed throughout her life was nothing short of spectacular. Memorial services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 116 North 12th at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 5th. Following the service between 12-2 PM there will be a celebration of Nancy's life at Hardscrabble Country Club. Private burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home prior to the memorial service. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Tripp Smith, Collier Smith, Marc Watson, Jr, and R. Trent Goins; and her sons-in-law: Harry Robinson; Marc Watson, Sr. ; Randall W. Goins and James Jones. He was born on October 2, 1935 in Vian, Oklahoma to Ida P. (Long) Curry and John Raymond Curry and passed away on November 29, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was married to Barbara Jean (McClendon) Curry on February 8, 1974 in Stilwell, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2013. Mr. Curry was a professional truck driver for 50 years. He loved to play golf, take care of his lawn and play cards. Survivors are three daughters, Lisa McInerney and Mike of Sallisaw, OK, Sherry Curry and Tony Renfro of Sallisaw, OK and Patty McHenry and Billy of Sallisaw, OK; one son, Donny Curry and Clarissa of Sallisaw, OK; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Mae McClure and Connie of Sallisaw and Florence Ann Thomas and Herbert of Sallisaw, OK; one brother, Roy Curry and Hope of Yukon, OK; and other relatives and friends. He was born on December 14, 1929 in Gans, Oklahoma to Elsie Lee (Powell) Taylor and Roy Thomas Taylor and passed away on November 29, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was married to Wally Lou (Horton) Taylor on August 24, 1958 in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Mr. Taylor was a retired educator at Gans, Lone Oak and finally at Liberty Public Schools for over 30 years. He was a cattle rancher and U. S. Air Force Veteran of Korean Conflict. He was very active in the local, state and national democratic party. He was an avid fisherman and member of Muldrow Church of Christ. Survivors are wife, Wally of the home; one daughter, Kayla Lee Taylor of Dallas, TX; two sons, Craig Horton Taylor and Bernice of Muldrow, OK and A. Mary Ann Vestal Jones of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on November 27, 2023. She was born on January 13, 1931, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Joseph Richard and Meadie Elexander Reaves Vestal. She is survived by her son, Brad Jones of Charleston, Arkansas. Her brother, Robert Vestal of Naples, Florida and sister, Brenda Vestal Zimmerman of Lake Worth, Florida; sister-in-law Waltraud Vestal of Germany; brother-in-law, Ottis McElhaney, Jr of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored her. She is proceeded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Newell and Gloria Vestal, Joe Keith Vestal, Richard and Wilda Vestal, Jeanette (Vestal) and David Adams, Reba (Vestal) McElhaney, Kenneth and Tommie Vestal, and former husband, Bill Jones. She was well known for working as a bank teller at First National Bank in Fort Smith; beginning in the 1950s, until her retirement in the mid-1990's. In the mid-1950s while working as a teller at the Fort Chaffee location, Elvis Presley frequently came to bank while he was stationed there. She was a member of the Fort Smith High School Class of 1949 and attended both the Goddard United Methodist Church and First Nazarene Churches of Fort Smith. Her hobbies include tending to her flower beds, gardening, and family genealogy; as well as traveling to Dallas and Florida to visit family. Services will be held at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 11:00 am. The family will receive visitors on Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Interment will take place immediately following the services at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith. Evelyn Marie Ederer, born December 10 , 1938, departed this life for her heavenly home on November 28 , 2023. She was 84. On December 1 , 1962, Evelyn married the love of her life, Nicholas "Nick" J. Ederer who preceded her in death on March 5 , 2017. They began their married life in St. Louis, Missouri before moving back to their hometown of Doniphan to raise their family. A devoted Christian, Evelyn had many favorite verses of scripture that she cherished and referred to often. Evelyn was known by her family as a tremendous cook and each child/grandchild had a favorite "signature" dish that she would prepare for them as soon as they asked. She was also a natural homemaker who had a passion and talent for decorating and design and loved to keep her home inviting. Her love of travel with friends and family took her to all parts of the world with some of her favorites being most of the European countries, the Mediterranean, and Africa, just to name a few off the lone list that she would reminisce ever so often. Evelyn enjoyed wintering with her husband, Nick, in the Texas Rio Grande Valley for several years along with dear friends that would do the same. She always looked forward to her Friday nights out with Nick and their beloved circle of friends and was excited to plan where they would go and make all the arrangements. She was blessed with many special friends that have kept in touch for decades and was a true and genuine friend as well. Evelyn will be missed beyond measure by her family and friends and will leave a lifetime of legacy for her children and grandchildren. Evelyn is survived by her three children, Lisa (Larry) Moore of Nixa, Missouri, Joe (Randi) Ederer of Doniphan, Missouri, and Natalie (Stephen) Smith of Doniphan, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Layton (Danny) Brown, Lachlan Moore, Justin Ederer, Haley (Alex) Nance, Emily Ederer, Stephanie (Shayne) Talburt, Hunter (Shana) Smith, and Colton Smith; six great-grandchildren: Braidy and Landry Talburt, Crue and Mabree Smith, and Nolan and Sadie Nance. Evelyn also is survived by one brother-in-law, Larry Casteel; two sisters-in-law, Carole (Ederer) Chilton and Jeanette (Slagle) Stilwell; along with many special nieces and nephews. Evelyn was the oldest child of Jack and Irene Stilwell. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Jackie Stilwell, Donnie Stilwell, Bonnie Casteel, and Philip Stilwell. Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 2, 2023, beginning at noon with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p. m. Interment will be in the Doniphan Mausoleum. Pastor Steve Sanders will be officiating. Charles A. Enis, "Buddy" 74, of Wilburton, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He lived a full and meaningful life, touching numerous lives with his wisdom and kindness. Charles was born to Orville and June (Sparks) Enis on December 16, 1948 in McAlester, Oklahoma. A viewing will be from 3:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Jones-Harkins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 1:00 p. m. at Panola Auditorium on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Paige (Booth) Scott and Tommie Parker will be officiating. A burial will follow at Lutie Cemetery under the direction of Jones-Harkins Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Scott Lassiter, Shawn Lassiter, Mark Christenberry, Kyle Lassiter, Kace Lassiter, Parker McClary, Trenton Dill, and Paxton Christenberry. A proud graduate from Panola High School and later earned his Doctorate in Education at East Texas. He married his wife Beverly in June of 1997 at Eureka Springs, Arkansas, beginning a journey of love and companionship that would last 26 years. Buddy dedicated his life to education, serving in various capacities throughout his career. He began his journey in education at Soper High School in 1971-1972 as a math teacher. In the fall of 1972, he joined Wilburton Public Schools where he taught junior high math for five years, served as a high school counselor for 3 years, and high school principal for 13 years. He then ascended to the role of superintendent, a position he held for 22 years. Remaining in the field of education for 43 years, Charles spent 22 of those years as a superintendent, a testament to his commitment and dedication to the profession. His legacy within the Wilburton School District is profound. He was instrumental in the construction of the basketball gym for the Wilburton Diggers and was known for ensuring the smooth operation of the schools. Buddy was a respected member of the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration and the Oklahoma Association of School Administrators. Buddy was a pillar of the financial community, serving on the 1st National Wilburton Bank Board for many years. His keen insight and unwavering commitment played a pivotal role in the bank's success, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Beyond his professional contributions, Buddy's involvement in various associations underscored his genuine interest in fostering community growth. His affable demeanor and dedication to service were truly contagious, inspiring those around him to strive for excellence. Outside of his professional life, Buddy had a passion for rodeos and even rode bulls in his younger years. He loved ranching and taking care of cattle. He was a dedicated family man who cherished spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Whether it was going on hunting trips or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home, his family was his pride and joy. Described by many as wise, Buddy was a source of guidance and wisdom for many within his community. His hard work and dedication were evident in all aspects of his life, from his professional pursuits to his personal relationships. Buddy was a man of integrity, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family and his work. His impact on the lives of his loved ones and the community he served will endure, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Buddy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Beverly Enis; his sons, Shawn Lassiter and his wife, Candy, and Scott Lassiter and his wife, Treasa; and his daughter, Sheena Christenberry and her husband, Mark. As a doting grandfather, he leaves behind Madilyn Dill and her husband, Trenton, Kyle Lassiter and his wife, Cayden, Kace Lassiter, Parker McClary, Presley McClary, and Paxton Christenberry. His great-grandchildren, Kinzly Stancell, Wrenley Dill, Myles Lassiter, and Ella Duvall will remember their great-grandfather with fondness. He is also survived by his brother, Bob Enis and wife, Regenia of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sister, Sherry Swackhamer of Portland, Oregon; his nephew, Blake Enis; and his nieces, Lee Enis, Madison Swackhamer, Amelia Holbert and her husband, Brendan; soon to be identical great nephews Holbert; numerous other family members and friends. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and June Enis, and his brother-in-law, Roy Swackhamer.
