Michael "Mike" Biniakewitz, a lifelong resident of Camden, AR, made his departure into the presence of the Lord from his home on Saturday, October 7, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family. Mike was a member of the Cullendale Assembly of God and served as a board member for many years. He loved building churches on mission trips. Mike was a maintenance machinic for International Paper Co. for 39 years and owned and operated a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Mike was well known for leading projects to help people and causes in the community. He took scripture to heart when it's says, "pure religion is taking care of orphans and widows. " And he was an avid outdoor adventurer with friends and family. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Rachel Biniakewitz and one brother, Dannis Biniakewitz. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Shelda Biniakewitz; a son Rev. Kelley Biniakewitz (Sheelah) of Rogers, AR; and a daughter Karen Michele Biniakewitz Kennon (Scott) of St. Augustine, FL; seven grandchildren, Jacob "Bridge" Biniakewitz (Katy) of Russellville, AR, Savanah Biniakewitz Smith (Zack) of Fayettevill, AR, Levi and Isaac Biniakewitz of Rogers, AR, and Mackenzie, Logan, and Andrew Kennon of St. Augustine, FL; one great grandson, Ezra Biniakewitz; one sister, Ruth Gillespie (Richard) of Broken Arrow, OK; one sister-in-law, Beth Biniakewitz of Millington, TN; and a lot of people that saw him as a second Dad. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Cullendale Assembly of God in Camden with funeral services following at 11:00 AM. Rev. Al Womack will officiate the service and Rev. Scott Knight will do the prayer. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Cullendale Assembly of God mortgage debt reduction fund. Proctor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Laila Marie Hooker: A Short but successful season Loving: Her's was a short life, but one of loving. Born May 10, 2012, she was 11 years old. She loved her family, church, her friends, and was dearly loved back. Adaptable and Active: Born in Newport News, Virginia, she adjusted well and made friends easily in a new place, a different culture here in Arkansas. Interested: She explored more things in her just over a decade of life than the typical adult. And she was doted over and encouraged in her pursuits by family. Living life: Life for Laila was full with her studies, her friends, her favorite foods salmon, rice and turkey bites; with cheerleading, and competition dance, especially jazz. Athletic and adventurous: She loved sports, especially basketball, archery, volleyball, and trap/skeet shooting. She never wanted to just be on the team; she worked to excel. Sweet. Looking beyond the tragedy, sweet memories will linger with her parents Tourke and Chandra McCulley Hooker; sister Jada; her maternal great grandmother Mozetta Pegues; Paternal grandparents Samuel and Beverly Hooker; uncles Ernest and Marlon Hooker; cousin Nyla Hooker and her daughter Ava. Maternal grandparents Hoyle and Gwen McCulley; aunt Wendy McCulley; uncle Darryl McCulley; and cousins Aubrey (Keva) Pegues, Dion Pegues, Kiara and Zyon McCulley. Virginia Umphries Knight Nunnally, was born August 25, 1933 to Johnnie R. Umphries and Lorene Russell Umphries in Walkers Creek, AR, the second of five children. She graduated from Bradley High School in Bradley, AR in 1950 and soon after began working at International Paper Company in Springhill, LA in the accounting department. There she met her husband, Joseph Earl "Joe" Knight and they married in 1951. After the birth of their two children, Suzanne and Joey, they moved to Camden in 1960. She worked for the TAC Equipment Company in East Camden for many years. After her daughter's death in 2014 she moved to Hot Springs, AR and there made many friends at the bridge club and the Antique Mall where she had a shop for several years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Camden, AR, Camden Junior League and Daughters of American Revolution. Virginia's hobbies were playing bridge, gardening, yoga, collecting antiques and her favorite was piano where she began classes as a senior adult and continued for 20 years. She was married to Joe Knight until his death from cancer in 1997. In 2006 she married Dr. Robert "Bob" Nunnally. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Robert "Bob" Nunnally; her daughter, Suzanne Knight; and her sister, Shirley Umphries O'Glee. She is survived by her son, Joey Knight, of Hot Springs, AR; two sisters, LaNell Umphries Stuart of Springhill, LA and Mary Umphries Darden of Lexington, KY; brother, Johnnie Rhea Umphries and spouse, Linda; many nieces and nephews; stepsons, Robert Howard Nunnally, Jr and spouse, Merrill and Bruce Wayne Nunnally and spouse, Ann; stepdaughter, Shanna Marie Berry and spouse, Les; and step grandsons, Andrew Cameron Nunnally and Charles Robert Reed, Jr. and step granddaughter, Madison Geddie Reed; lifelong friend, Mary Barnes and special friend, Carol Thomason of Hot Springs, AR who visited faithfully when Aunt Virginia became unable to participate in activities outside her home; and special care givers, Becky Cline and Ryan Davenport. The family would like to thank Joey for the amazing care he took of his mother the last two years of her life and Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Virginia and their support for Joey. ObituaryThomas J. Butler was born on August 12, 1948, in Stephens, Arkansas. He was the 10th of 12 children born to Thomas William Butler (Jack) and Cleo (Sutton) Butler. He attended George Washington Carver High School in Stephens, Arkansas where he exceeded scholastically. He was first chair trumpet player in the high school band. He also played basketball. Anyone who knew Thomas knew that he had great aspirations of grandeur until he died. Thomas accepted Christ at an early age and preached his first sermon at the age of 16 at New Home A. M. E. Church in Stephens. He graduated in 1966 as Valedictorian and went on to attend Southern State College. Now it is known as Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, Arkansas. He then entered the U. S. Army where he received many accolades. He earned over 50 medals. While in Vietnam, Butler earned a Medal of Honor, Bronze Star, a Distinguished Flying Cross, two Purple Hearts, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and a number of other honors for bravery and courage in the line of duty for his service between 1968 and 1973. Butler held various prestigious positions during his work history. He was very precise and detail-oriented in everything he did. He succeeded in whatever he attempted. He loved his Green Bay Packers. In his latter life, he watched TV 24/7. He especially enjoyed CNN, documentaries, and movies. All he needed was a TV and his phone. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Thomas (Jack) and Cleo (Sutton) Butler. Sisters: Frankie (Charlie) Edwards; Allean (Ezekiel) Strong; Mearlene; Eva; Helen (William) McCloud; Wilma (Jimmy) McGee; Mary (Charles) Thompson; Florence (Herschel) Blakely. Thomas leaves to mourn two sisters and a brother, Chillicothe, OH; Rachel (Donald) Foster; Roslyn (Napoleon-deceased) Cross; Lawrence (Nancy) Butler; two sons, Kansas City, Kansas; Stacy R. Butler and Steven Dante' Butler; two daughters-in-love, Natel Brown (Portland, Oregon) and Vernachael Blacksmith (Rock Hill, South, Carolina) and a host of family members-cousins, nieces and nephews, and a special family, The Conways-Charnley, Tanisha, Taylor and Carson. Services will be held on November 11, 2023, at 11 a. m. at the Greater St Paul Baptist Church, Camden, Arkansas. Interment will be held at New Home A. M. E. Church Cemetery, Stephens, Arkansas. John Edward Gilbert, 94, of Camden, AR, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. He was born on December 13, 1928, to Jube and Myrtie Davis Gilbert. He and his wife, Martha Sue Davidson Gilbert, were married 60 years before her passing in 2013. John E. Gilbert served in the United States Navy from October 10, 1950, to August 4, 1954. He served aboard the U. S. S. Bon Homme Richard and the U. S. Oriskany in the Korean War. He was a member of Cullendale First Baptist Church, Camden, AR. He is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Sue Gilbert; parents; two sisters, Louise Tullos Word, and Olga Jean Pierce. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Gilbert Sumner (Garry) of Texarkana; son, Dennis "Mark" Gilbert (Becky) of Camden, AR; two grandchildren, who brought him so much joy, Michael Alan Gilbert (Christy) of Monticello, AR, and Mallory Gilbert Lindsey (Josh) of Camden, AR; four great-grandchildren, Adelyn Grace Gilbert, Nicolas Alan Gilbert, Tucker Jay Lindsey, and Sadie Claire Lindsey. The family would like to thank Ouachita County Medical Center Hospice for all their love and care, together with his caretakers at the nursing facility he was in. Reginald Redman Smith died at his home on November 27, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Smith was born in Princeton, Arkansas to the late Gus Allen Smith and Effie Mann Smith. He is predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years Elizabeth Ann Venable Smith; his son Douglas Redman Smith and brothers Charles Smith and Edmund Smith. Born October 23, 1932, Mr. Smith graduated from Harmony Grove High School in 1951. Following high school he joined the Air Force and was married to Elizabeth Ann Venable in Niagara Falls New York in February of 1956. Returning to Camden, Reginald began a long career in the timber business. Humble and strong by nature, Reginald knew many people high and low, far and wide. He never met a stranger and he knew almost everyone by their association to timber and land in Ouachita, Union, Dallas, Calhoun, and Nevada counties. Mr. Smith was a life long Baptist. Baptized as a young man, He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church. As a young married man, he and Ann became early members of Hillside Baptist Church in Camden. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Regina Ann Flannigan; his grandsons Ryan Reginald Gossett and Douglas Redman Smith Jr. ; his granddaughter Kacy Ann Palmer; and seven great grandchildren; and sister Carolyn Smith Counts. Mr. Smith was a family man, a serious father and a competitive sportsman. He was for many years a familiar face at the Camden Boys Club, a member for many years at BT Hunt Club, a fox hunter, deer hunter, and fisherman. Nothing made him happier than to be outside preferably on his own land. He possessed no desire to explore much beyond his own familiar and comfortable territory. Visitation will be Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Proctors Funeral Home in Camden, with interment following at 3:00 PM at Bethesda Cemetery in Camden, Arkansas. The family would like to thank Dr. Larry Braden and the incredible team of nurses, caregivers, therapists and staff with OCMC Hospice, who took such good care and went above and beyond for our father and grandfather in his final days.
