Dorothy Bassler

Dorothy Bassler

Age - 82

December 2, 2023

Dorothy Bassler, 82, of Coopersburg, passed away peacefully November 27, 2023. Born in Whitehall, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Kometic) Lychak. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Donald Bassler and beloved children, Jeffrey T. Erney of Whitehall, PA and Susan Erney-Gleason and her husband Kevin of Spring City, PA. While Dorothy touched everyone who knew her with her kindness and sweetness, her son, Jeffrey always described her as the best mother in the world as she would always put herself aside to take extra special care of her family. She treasured her children and her husband more than anything and was a woman who shared her love freely and deeply. She had the most loving and strong bond with her son, daughter, and husband. Growing up, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her big brother and big sister, as well as her many friends. Her high school yearbook said, "You can find Dot in a convertible, doing crossword puzzles, and eating hoagies. " Dorothy was super bright, on the debate team, and that helped her later in life to always win a negotiation, especially when finding a bargain on her many shopping excursions with her daughter, Susan. She was fun-loving and spirited and a little-known fact was that she danced her heart out on the American Bandstand Show when it was filmed in Philadelphia. She continued to love eating hoagies and doing word finds every day up until the very day she passed away. When she worked as a grocery cashier when her children were young, she won a trip to Italy in a "favorite cashier" contest. She loved traveling with her husband to London, Alaska, Key West, San Francisco just to name a few. When her sister became very ill and her mother was older, she selflessly became important caregivers to both of them. When she met Donald and he wanted to marry her within the first year they met, she once again selflessly made him wait 18 years to allow her children to grow up in their family home and to take care of her mother on Brookdale Street. Everything she did in life, she did with her whole heart and with a smile on her face. Dorothy was described as "little but mighty" and found happiness even when she experienced sadness and she found strength to carry on through life's struggles. When she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease almost 20 years ago, she told few and carried on with her infectious smile and determination. As her disease progressed, she handled it with quiet acceptance, with such grace and dignity. As she closed her eyes, her children could not be more proud of their mother and the beautiful, kind, generous, intelligent, and most importantly, loving, woman they were able to call their mother, their "Mommy Dot". She was our angel on Earth, and now our angel from up above. In addition to her husband and children, she will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Richard Lychak and his wife, Marie; her stepchildren, Donald Bassler Jr. and his partner Janeen, Gary and his wife Rachel, and Amy and her husband Larry; many nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, and a step great grandson. She was preceded in passing by two children: Robert and Donna Marie, and a sister, Martha Baker. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's name to the Parkinson's Foundation.Show more

Patricia Quinlan

Patricia Quinlan

Age - 47

October 19, 2023

Patricia Ann Quinlan of Center Valley passed to her eternal rest on September 18, 2023, following a brief illness complicated by a second, recent bout of COVID. During her 47 years of life she was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and devoted friend to many. She passed peacefully and painlessly, surrounded by her family, friends, and colleagues at Lehigh Valley Hospital, where she practiced internal medicine for seventeen years. Patricia was predeceased by her grandparents, Theodore and Helen Vogtman and Fred and Alice Quinlan, both of Hillside New Jersey. Patty was born on February 13, 1976 to Eileen and Fred Quinlan Sr of Clark, New Jersey, where she grew up among many friends and three younger brothers. She was active in Mountainside Gospel Chapel and Word of Life Fellowship, including missions and camp trips. Excelling in Clark schools, she graduated as valedictorian of her class at Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School. She then went on to Princeton University, where she married Darren Smith, also of Clark New Jersey, upon her graduation in 1998. She continued on to Baylor University to earn a Psy D, and then to University of Texas Medical School San Antonio, where she earned her medical doctorate in 2006. In large part, Dr. Quinlan's medical career and residency took place within the Lehigh Valley Health Network's Muhlenburg location in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She worked extensively during the COVID pandemic and along with her team of frontline medical professionals, rendered exemplary service, saving the lives of many patients. Dr. Quinlan was loved by countless patients and colleagues alike. Patty is survived by three teenage daughters: Madelyn, Amanda, and Molly; and brothers: Fred Jr, Brian (Julie), and Dennis (Laurie). She also leaves nieces, nephews, and cousins within the tristate area and Washington DC. A host of cherished friends would heartily affirm that to know Patty is to love Patty. Patty was given the nickname "Doctor Angel" amid a medical emergency on a cross-country flight to Seattle. With a lack of proper medical equipment onboard, she improvised MacGyver-like methods to perform life-saving intervention, including an intravenous infusion of fluids, on an incapacitated passenger. With items collected from other passengers, along with her own hair-tie as a tourniquet, she was able to revive and sustain her patient, allowing the pilot to avert an emergency landing. For her efforts, the pilot and crew bestowed upon her this venerable moniker, which stayed with her for the rest of her life and career. Her closest friends and colleagues continue to use this well-deserved nickname. Rest in peace, Patty. For all of us, you will forever be our beloved Doctor Angel. Norcross-Weber Funeral Home has been entrusted with a private interment. At Patty's request, a Celebration of Life will take place at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Center Valley PA on Sunday September 24, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
