Merrill "Frenchy" Peltier, age 90 of Sioux Falls passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Avera Prince of Peace. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by Military Honors and Interment at Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 PM with a Liturgical Wake Service and Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, consider donations to the Alzheimer's Association - South Dakota Chapter or to Avera Prince of Peace. Please check back for additional obituary information in the coming days. Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Theresa Peltier of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Sharon Peltier Johnson of Papillion, NE and Charlotte (Jan Nienow) Higgins of Stone Lake, WI; sons, Larry (Laurie) Peltier of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dale (Michal) Peltier of Harrisburg, SD; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Avias Zell of Oak Park Heights MN; and a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Frenchy was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Cecilia (Perrault) Peltier; three brothers, Richard Peltier, Neil Peltier, and Bryant Peltier; two sisters, Colleen Greene and Joyce Anderson; and two sons-in-law, Kevin Johnson and Dwight Higgins.

Linda Caviezel, loving mother and sister, died December 5th, 2023 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls with her family by her side. She was 69 years young. Memorial service will be at 5:30 pm Monday, December 11, at Miller Funeral Home Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD with the family present to greet friends from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Linda Lorraine (Wagaman) Caviezel was born on October 7th, 1954 in Chamberlain, South Dakota to Emil Wagaman and Frances Evelyn Guisinger Wagaman. Linda did many things for work over the years, mostly centered around helping others. In the early days, she had an in-home daycare, she later worked at the Wonder Bread Storefront that was here in Sioux Falls, for the VOA, and at the Avera Hospital gift shop. Linda loved to be able to put a smile on the face of all those she came in contact with. On July 27th, 1973, Linda was united in marriage with her husband Jerome Allen Caviezel. Linda and Jerome lived back and forth between Huron, SD and Sioux Falls, SD before finally settling down on West 10th Street in Sioux Falls. Linda and Jerome focused heavily on raising their three children after finding their home in Sioux Falls. Family was everything to Linda. Linda and Jerome often traveled to go camping and fishing with their children and grandchildren. In Linda's younger years, she was involved in Civil Air Patrol, and was even a Senior Squadron Commander, as well as several of her children. Linda loved going out to Snake Creek in Platte, SD with Jerome. Linda proudly shared her love of cooking with her children and grandchildren and even used these camping trips to teach them all how to cook over an open flame. Linda was a big believer in food and meal times bringing the family together. Linda and Jerome proudly displayed photos around their home of their children, grandchildren, and family. Linda always encouraged family and friends to stop by and visit. Linda had a very loving and motherly personality and would always do what she could to show those she cared about how much they always meant to her. Thankful for having shared her life are her children Travis Caviezel and his wife Jessica Jonnes-Caviezel, Carrie Caviezel-Kimball and her husband Eric Kimball, Brian Caviezel; four grandchildren, Taylor Kimball, Tyler Kimball and his wife Keera Stanley-Kimball, Matthew and Kahlan Caviezel; She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carol, and her husband Jerome.Show more

Rita Charlotte Raines Keckler, age 80, of Sioux Falls, SD died on November 30, 2023, surrounded by her family. Rita was born February 18, 1943, to Robert and Roberta (Nommensen) Raines in Clark, SD. She went to school in Raymond, SD and Lead, SD. She graduated from Northern State University (then Northern State Teachers College) with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1965. Rita met Jim Keckler at Northern State College in the summer of 1966. They were married in Sioux Falls at Christ the King Church on August 16, 1967. Rita worked in education before and after her time as a homemaker focused on raising her children. She began her career teaching math at Patrick Henry Junior High School. Rita later worked in the library at Eugene Field Elementary School and at Patrick Henry Junior High School. During the final chapter of her career, she worked for 13 years as the school secretary at Longfellow Elementary School, where she made many dear friends. Rita was active in many groups and activities in Sioux Falls. She was a member of PEO Chapter BY for 39 years. She was a leader in fund-raising to support the mission of the organization for many years. Rita was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church for 43 years. She also enjoyed her involvement with her book club and investment club. Rita was a talented and prolific quilter, seamstress, and needleworker. She was a founding and active member of the Sioux Falls Quilters Guild. She participated in several small groups, including her Tuesday night quilt group, embroidery group, and art quilt group. She enjoyed traveling with friends to many quilt shows and events. Rita was especially proud of her 13 years of service with the Prayers and Squares group at Avera Hospital. She rarely missed gathering with the Friday morning group to work on quilts for cancer patients and she received recognition for 1,000 hours of volunteer service. Rita's family is fortunate to have the many beautiful quilts that she made to remember her and be wrapped in her love. Rita's time living in Lead, SD was very important to her. Her father worked at the Homestake Gold Mine and Rita was proud to have been a gold miner's daughter. She worked as a summer tour guide at Homestake during her college years. Rita said that her mother's front porch in the beautiful Black Hills in Lead was one of her favorite places in the world. Grateful for having shared Rita's life are her daughters Marcy Keckler (Tom Fabbro), Minneapolis, MN, and Lisa Keckler (Geoff Courtney), San Antonio, TX; her sons Scott Keckler (Jennifer Johnson), Sioux Falls, SD; and Jeremy (Jolene) Keckler, Sioux Falls, SD; her 11 grandchildren: Julia and Frank Fabbro; Elizabeth, Kathryn, Robert and Margaret Courtney; Adrian, Gabriel, and Nathanuel Keckler; and Collin and Seth Keckler; her sister Roma Raines Bell and brother-in-law David Bell, Perth, Australia, and her many nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her husband James Keckler and her parents Robert and Roberta Raines. Rita's family is grateful for her caring circle of friends who visited and supported her during the final months of her life, especially her friends who completed quilting projects for her. They are also thankful to Dr. Keely Hack of Sanford Oncology and the exceptional team at Sanford Hospice for the compassionate care Rita received. The family requests that memorials in Rita's honor be given to Feeding South Dakota, The Banquet, South Dakota Public Broadcasting, or a charity of your choice. A visitation with family present will be held at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, December 13,2023, from 4:00 p. m. to 6:00 p. m. A funeral Mass to celebrate Rita's life will be on Thursday, December 14,2023, at 11:00 a. m. at the Church of St. Mary in Sioux Falls, followed by a luncheon. A private family burial will take place at St. Michael's cemetery at a later time.Show more

Victor Jean Jacquot went to be with the Lord on Monday November 27, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep surrounded by his family at the age of 75. Vic was a consummate story teller and always ready with a fresh tale of yesteryear and the history of Sioux Falls. Vic was born on August 22, 1948 in Casper, WY, to Victor & Margaret (Sellers) Jacquot. As a child Vic lost is father in a tragic car accident. Growing up, Vic moved across the Great Plains states, first to the Billings, Montana area,then attending high school in Mandan North Dakota. Vic was raised by his Step Father, Judd Booth and Mother Margaret. They lived in several towns across the Dakotas including Aberdeen, South Dakota and Mandan North Dakota. Eventually Vic settled inSioux Falls, South Dakotawhere he lived for over 50 years. Vic had the opportunity to be a part of the SD Civil Air Patrol and several other civic activities in his youth. In his youth Vic developed a fascination with Radio broadcasting. He was an avid listener of radio his entire life. While attending Sioux Falls Collage he had the opportunity to work at Sioux Falls radio station KISD. He also worked at KELO in radio and television announcing. His on-the-air name was Johnny Knight. During those times he had the chance to meet many interesting and famous people who came to Sioux Falls for events and concerts. These experiences were many of his fondest memories and best stories. In his late 20s Vic trusted Christ as his personal Savior. This was a transformational moment in Vic’s life. From this point on in his life he was a dynamic witness for Christ, never missing an opportunity to share his personal testimony of Christ’s redemption with anyone willing to listen. Vic became active in a small local church in Sioux Falls, located on East 41st Street. At that time the name of the church was Sioux Valley Baptist Church. Vic was instrumental in the growth and out-reach of the church. Vic made many life-long friendships through the church. Vic married his wife, Vickie, at the church on January 2, 1982. Together Vic and Vickie served as volunteers and faithful witnesses in several local Sioux Falls Churches and through the Gideon’s International Ministry. In the 1980s Vic started a business "Vic Jacquot Financial Marketing. " The business served agricultural focused financial institutions with various marketing and operations services. The agency was his pride and joy and his clients were some of his best friends. He invested a tremendous amount of time to sit down with his clients and share long conversations about diverse topics. This built strong decades-long working relationships with many of his clients. Vic also worked with Nordstrom’s "Under the Hood Show" radio broadcast and "Ask the Motor Medics" newspaper column and enjoyed being part of their team. Vic loved Life! He was a consummate traveler having traveled extensively to many states across America and multiple countries abroad. Through his work he had the opportunity to visit almost every county and many of the small rural towns of the Great Plains and Midwestern states. He also enjoyed many hobbies including walking his two Golden Retrievers through Riverdale Park, taking bicycle rides around the Sioux River bike trails and hiking and fishing. Vic was a gifted writer and story teller. He often regaled his friends and family with stories of Sioux Falls and of his various travels and adventures. He wrote text for ministry and business projects including extensive advertising copy. Vic created multipleadvertising campaigns such "Hometown Banking With Your Neighbors And Friends"and "Banking On A First Name Basis. " These campaigns and others were used extensively in small community media outlets across the Midwest. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Vickie, son, Michael, three sisters, Judy, (husband, Gayle), Linda and Terry all of Texas, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.Show more
