Melvina M. Arthur age 91 of Cannelton passed away on September 8, 2023. She was born February 20, 1932, and was preceded in death by her Husband Robert L. Arthur, parents Curtis and Ernestine Elkins Moore and grandson Justin M. Grounds. Surviving: son Danny and (Regina) Arthur; daughters Donna Arthur, Beverly and Tim Grounds and Lisa and Terry Frye; grandchildren Jason Arthur, Danny Arthur, Jonah and Gina grounds, Terry Jarrell, Michael, Dreenan and Jenny Dowdy and many great grandchildren. She was a stay-at-home mom Mom and loved her family and her grandchildren were precious babies. She was a good Christian woman and she attended Smithers Church of God and the Carbondale Baptist Church. The family would like to thank her daughter-in-law Regina for all the care she gave to our mom, but mom treated her like a daughter; her neighbor Butch and Bonnie Craft for the visits and goodies; her brother's son Gary and Janet Moore for the visits and gifts and their grandson Little Jake that she loved dearly. Also, we want to thank Hospice Care for the care that she received from them. Services will be at 1:00 PM of Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Smithers Church of God on Cannelton Holler Road, Smithers, WV with Pastor Joe Hubbard and Pastor Jeff Floyd officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Larry Carl Pennington age 83 of Cannelton died October 11, 2023. He was born June 11, 1940, in Smithers and was the son of the late Hollis Pennington and Vera Nickoson and was raised by his mother Vera Palmer and Ernest Palmer Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Ernest Glendon Pennington and a brother Warren Lee Pennington. He was a member of the Oakland Church of God in Smithers and a retired coal miner of Semet-Solvay Coal and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Montgomery, a US Army veteran and retired from the Kanawha County Board of Education at Capital High School. Surviving: daughter Angela Foster (Keith) of Smithers; sisters Patricia Whittington of Boomer, Deborah Earles (John) of Winston Salem, NC and Anette Pennington Palmer Sutherland of North Carolina. Five grandchildren Colin Ross, Katya (Derek) Banks, Caleb Ross, Ashley (Hayden) Dixon, Shianna Pennington; 4 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and 4 nephews and many very important friends and neighbors. The family sends special thanks to his Hospice Team. Service for Larry will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the Oakland Church of God with Pastor Todd Morris officiating. Cannelton, Indiana -Mary Nell Huebschman, 82, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at her home. She was born in Cannelton on February 28, 1941, daughter of Lawrence and Opal (Robbins) Mattingly. Mary Nell graduated from Cannelton High School in 1959. She married Jack Huebschman on November 24, 1961 and worked at General Electric until 1972. After leaving G. E. , Mary Nell was always sought after as a babysitter as she kept many children in Cannelton at one time or another. She was a member of Harry G. Myers American Legion Auxiliary Post #142. Mary Nell enjoyed working in her flowers and always looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved hosting family holiday gatherings with Christmas being her favorite. Surviving is her husband of 61 years, Jack Huebschman; children, Chad Huebschman, Brian Huebschman (Tammy), Norman Huebschman (Amanda Whipple) and Lora Melton (Chris); sister, Debbie Hogsed (Rick); grandchildren, April Huebschman, Coty Wichman (Ethan), Gracie Collins, Ethan Melton, Gavin Melton and Karie Briem and great grandchildren, Kelsey Wardrip, Grayson Freeman, Chelsey Skeen, Madison Briem and another great-granddaughter due in November, and a great-great grandson, Brodie Crowe. Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Betty Powers; niece, Jessica Powers Russell; nephew, Mike Powers and brothers-in-law, Harry Frisch and David Powers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with burial in New Cliff Cemetery. Steven H. Doss, age 75 of Cannelton, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN. , surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 1, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late William & Josephine (Van Winkle) Doss. Mr. Doss honorably served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a retired Environmental Specialist at Kettering Medical Center - Main Campus, and a former employee of Dayton Superior in Miamisburg with over 25 years of service. Steven was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Preceded in death by his infant daughter Charity Doss in 1975, his infant brother Wayne Doss and by his brother Dale Doss. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 1/2 years Judy (Martin) Doss, 2 sons Steve Doss and wife Michele & Michael Doss and wife Cosetta, his 2 sisters Karen Doss & Melody Hinton and husband Tim, his sister-in-law Sonja Doss, his 3 grandchildren Madeline Doss, Chloe Doss and Connor Michael Doss, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the Swart Funeral Home, West Carrollton with Pastor Kamil Metz officiating.
