Melvin Ira Thornhill, a distinguished military veteran, and a man of many passions, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023 at the age of 80 surrounded by his family. Leaving behind a love for poker, dominoes, and cooking that brought joy to those who knew him. Born on February 15, 1943 in Columbia, Mississippi, Melvin grew up in Morgantown, Mississippi enjoying life fishing and spending time with his brothers and cousins. Later, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps where he served 10 years with three tours in Vietnam. After his dedicated service in the Marines, he spent over 40 years in the oilfield - drilling and completing oil wells. Making many lifelong friendships. Melvin found solace and joy in the company of loved ones, spending time with his grandkids, telling funny jokes and keeping the school kids in line. He cherished the time spent with all of his family, his children and the wide variety of their friends. He loved them dearly. Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Alexander; brother, Elzey Ray Thornhill; and sister, Caroline Crump. He is survived by his brother, Lewis Webster Alexander, Jr. , special cousin, Butch Thornhill; sons, Lance Thornhill (Cheryl), and Chad Thornhill (Brandy), both of Sumrall, MS; daughters, Melissa Thornhill of Jacksonville, Florida, and Brittany Haddox (Drew) of Columbia; grandchildren, Carson Thornhill, Carter Lee, Cooper Thornhill, Jordan Thornhill, Cayden Thornhill, Brinlee Haddox, and Addie Ford; honorary daughter, Merida Fortenberry; honorary granddaughter, Allie Watts; and a host of extended family and friends. Family will receive friends for visitation at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 p. m. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am in honor of Melvin on September 12, 2023, at Mt. Sinai Church of God Cemetery. Reverend Johnathan McLemore will officiate and military honors will be rendered paying tribute to Melvin's dedicated service to our nation. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly prefers memorial contributions be made to Melvin's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www. stjude. org. Melvin will always be remembered for the joy and laughter he brought to his family and friends.

Eleanor Blackwell Johnson, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family. Eleanor was born in Tylertown, MS and was a longtime resident of Columbia, MS. She was a homemaker and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Eleanor was a talented seamstress and excelled at cooking wonderful southern meals. She was a woman of strong faith and an active member of East Columbia Baptist Church. Over the years of her life, Eleanor most treasured her role instilling faith and solid family values in her family. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Robert G Johnson, Sr. ; her sons, Robert " Bob" Johnson, Jr. , and Johnny Joe Johnson; parents, Willie Blackwell and Carrie Faye Blackwell; and brothers, Raymond Blackwell, and Randy Blackwell. Her memory will be forever cherished by surviving family which includes her daughter, Kathy Johnson Stringer (John) of Columbia; her son, James "Jimmy" Johnson (Kem) of Florence, MS; sister, Marilyn Smith (Derick) of McKinney, TX, brother, Gerald Blackwell of Baton Rouge, LA; six grandchildren, Jennifer McClendon, Scott Johnson, Paige Smith, Robert "Trey" Johnson, III, Heather Bailey, and Evan Stringer; 10 great-grandchildren; her caregiver, Lorinda Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving family, and friends. A visitation for Eleanor will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at East Columbia Baptist followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Kathline "Kat" Lowery Statham Bond, of Columbia, Mississippi, passed from this life into God's presence on Friday, November 10, 2023 at the age of 59. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Harold Clifton and Bertie Sanders Lowery. Kat enjoyed life and was always the life of the party. She had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for her infectious laugh that always lifted everyone's spirits. She enjoyed rummage sales, "thrifting," and looked forward to the St. Patrick's Day Parades on the Gulf Coast. Kat was an excellent cook and enjoyed decorating and entertaining. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she especially loved gatherings when all of her family could be together. Kat was a woman of faith who loved her Lord and was known for her kind, caring, and nurturing spirit. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Lowery; a brother, Clifton Lowery; and a step-father, Delos Bullock, Jr. Kat is survived by her husband, Archie Bond; two sons, Chris (Maria) Statham and Enoch (Emily) Statham; her mother, Bertie Bullock; two sisters, Kimmie (Mitch) Anthony and Amie (Brett) Powell; a brother, Dean Lowery; eight grandchildren, Raul (Trisha) Leos, Zane Statham, Michael Statham, Donnie Statham, Benaiah Statham, Ella Jo Statham, Arabella Statham, and Abraham Statham; four nieces, Cassie (Corey) Stringer, Kelly Buckles, Stephanie Buckles, and Alex (Carter) Culbertson; and a nephew, Blake Powell. There will be a visitation for Kat at Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Jane Stringer of Foxworth, MS passed from this life to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 29, 2023 in the comfort of her home. She graced our presence for 80 years. She was born to Iva Berry Rowell and Cauley Eli Rowell, the last of four children. Jane was a homemaker and worked years at Citizens Bank of Columbia. After retirement, she devoted her time as a bus driver and teacher assistant at Columbia Academy, where her children and grandchildren attended school. She enjoyed spending time with family, showing her Tennessee walking horse "Silver Masterpiece", studying her Bible, reading, and gardening. Jane was a virtuous and godly woman and served her Lord and Savior at New Hope Baptist Church in Foxworth. She was devoted to her family whom she loved deeply. Jane was always willing to help anyone in need and was truly grateful for her blessings. She was a woman of resilience and strength, never wavering, even in her last days on this earth. In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Colonel Jimmy Stringer; and brothers, Paul B. Rowell, and Harry K. Rowell. She is survived by her children, Rhonda Jo Stringer, and Jimmy "Jason" Stringer (Renee); her sister, Ellen Breland; five grandchildren; Kelli Jo McMurry (Jesse), Kassidy Ginn (Haley), Kady Ginn Bourn, Jas Stringer (Natalie), and Jay Stringer; three bonus granddaughters, Julie Stiles (Brad), Meghan Bullock, and Sarah Bullock; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, and devoted friend, Theresa McKenzie; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to Merit Health Wesley and Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care she received. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church in Foxworth. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30am on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at the church where friends may visit from 9:30 am until service time. Her pastor, Dr. Jerry Watts will officiate and burial will follow at Lott Cemetery assisted by Kassidy Ginn, Kyle Ginn, Jesse McMurry, Cody McMurry, Jas Stringer, and Jay Stringer as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers, Kyle Breland, Kevin Breland, Kent Breland, Kris Breland, Burt Rowell, Steve Rowell, Corey McCain, Brandon Breland, Brandon Rowell, Eli Rowell, and Kent Rowell. He was born Wednesday, January 6, 1960 in Collins, Mississippi. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi. He then attended Ole Miss where he graduated. He loved cheering on the Rebels, watching westerns, and Star Trek. He put God before everyone else and magnified it to his family, teaching them the principles of being a real Christian. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Delmas Burch; mother, Troylene McDaniel Burch; brother, Mark Delmas Burch; grandchild, Chloe Denise Harrell.
