Albert William Shipe, 69, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Skyview Springs Rehab and Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will take place at 11A.M. on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Prospect Hill Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life to follow at The Front Royal Moose Lodge. Albert was born on March 27, 1954 in Front Royal, Virginia to the late Robert and Mary Shipe. Surviving Albert are his three children, Jessica Cooper (Todd), David Shipe (Jessica), and Stephen Shipe (Sarah); his two brothers; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his best friend, Billy Nuckols. Albert was an avid fisherman, enjoyed watching the Washington Commanders, and WWE Wrestling, but most of all he loved his family. He graduated from Warren County High School in 1973 and has lovingly raised his three children as a single father. The family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Skyview Springs for their exceptional care for Albert. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with the funeral services, and in lieu of flowers, Albert would have requested that you vote for Donald Trump in the next presidential election.

Darwin Lee McAfee, 94, of Front Royal, VA passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at Shenandoah Senior Living, Front Royal, VA. Mrs. McAfee was born in Plattsmouth, NE on January 8, 1930, a son of the late Nobel Dean and Frieda Lydia Sophia Schmidt McAfee. He was the husband of the late Edna Pauline Parks McAfee. Darwin lived a full life of dedication to God, Family and Country. He was a U.S. Armey veteran having served 21 years in the US Army Intelligence as well as two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Silver Stars among other metals of accommodation. He was the most positive and optimistic person you could ever meet. His love of people, Friends and Family were obvious to all who met him. He was a hugger and had the gift of Gab. I'm sure you know what I mean if you had ever met him. He dedicated many years and finances to helping others all around the world through various charities. He and Edna worked together on many projects for feeding and housing the hungry. Darwin and his wife Edna gave of their time and finances to make a difference in this world, and it showed. Be happy for him. He is now free from the worldly bounds. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a daughter Kerri Lynn McAffee. Survivors include his children Kevin McAfee (Kimberly), Lee McAfee (Sara), and Kristin Cederborg; his grandchildren Sarah McAfee, Emma Vioral, Aaron McAfee, and Jordan Salyards; one sister Marilyn Hall. A celebration of life service for Mr. McAfee will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Reliance United Methodist Church. Mr. McAfee along with his wife will be laid to rest at Culpepper National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Hugh Joseph “Joe” Henry Jr., 88, of Browntown, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Shenandoah Senior Living. A celebration of life will take place at a later date, Mr. Henry was born on May 18, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Hugh Henry Sr. and Bertha Leu Harper. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Devlin Henry. He was the former owner of H.J. Plastering and Stucco. After retirement, he moved to Browntown and fell in love with the area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara S. Henry; a friend who was like a son, Joe Marcus; close friend, Barbara Marcus and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Barbara “Bobbie” Jean Lively-Diebold, 87, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 in the comfort of her home. Bobbie had a love of plants from a very early age and became a respected horticulturalist who volunteered with the Morton Arboretum in Dupage County, Illinois and taught horticulture classes both in Illinois and in the Washington D.C. area over the years. She was active with several gardening clubs and successfully cultivated many unique varieties of plant species. Always passionate about the people and things she loved, she will be greatly missed. Surviving Bobbie is her loving husband, Robert E. Diebold; her daughters, Dana and Andrea with her husband, Jack; her stepsons, Dan with his wife, Peggy, Mike with his wife, Julia, Steve with his wife, Cecile, and Bruce; her grandchildren; Aiden, Kate, Matthew, Alex, John, Paul, Shain, Gwen, Alexander S., Gabrielle, and Xavier. Bobbie was born on December 12, 1936 in Sunset, Louisiana to her late mother, Leota and her late father, Charles. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie; who is survived by her husband Robbie; and her sister, Charlene; who is survived by her husband, Charlie and their daughters, Robin and Leslie.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley Mae Chiveral who left this world peacefully on February 13 , 2024 at 79 years old. She was born on December 6 , 1944 to Anna and Cecil Nicholson of Front Royal, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Cecil and her brothers, Burnie and Dickie. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Walter Chiveral of Front Royal; a daughter, Carla Deluca of Pheonix, Az; a daughter, Margie Conley (Brian) of Front Royal; a daughter, Janet Poe (Eric) of Front Royal; a son, Walter “Sonny” Chiveral (Erin) of Bernville, Pa; a sister, Margie Twaddle of Missouri; nine grandchildren, Tony Chiveral (Brittany), Christopher Melville, Keilyn Barrera (Sergio), Breann Oaxaca, Michael Oaxaca, Anna Poe, Mary Poe, Austyn Chiveral, and Parker Chiveral; two great-grandchildren, Renaeley and Everley Chiveral; numerous nieces and nephews; and her two beloved grand pups, Julio and Cooper. She cherished her family and friends, finding joy in every moment shared together. Shirley’s legacy will forever live on in the memories of her loved ones. She will be deeply missed. The family will have a visitation from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main St. Front Royal, Virginia 22630. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date. Pallbearers will be Michael Oaxaca, Austyn Chiveral, Parker Chiveral, Tony Chiveral, Sergio Berrara and Jon Childress. Though Shirley may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were touched by her presence. May she rest in peace, knowing her love will endure for generations to come.

Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Whittington was born on June 11, 1934 in Moorefield, West Virginia to the late Mack Baer and Pearl Mayhem Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Francis Whittington; three brothers, Mack Baer Jr., Lewis Baer and Bobby Brown; two sisters, Diane Hickerson and Vivian Gill and three grandsons, Michael Whittington, Christopher Whittington and Matthew Whittington. She was a member of Women of the Moose in Front Royal. Survivors include her three sons, Rodney Whittington (Kathy), Roger Whittington (Betty) and Melvin Whittington (Debra); two daughters, Kathy Easter (Randy) and Donna Nickens (Pearl); brother, Douglas Baer (Sue); eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Rodney Whittington, Melvin Whittington, Brian Murphy, Aries Bolanos, Daniel Reil and Cody Shepherd. Maxine Charlotte Braddock, 92, of Front Royal, VA passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Maxine was born on July 13, 1931 in Colton, South Dakota to Russell and Marguerite Byrne. Maxine spent her early years in Kincaid, Illinois and moved with her mother and siblings to Washington State where she completed her education and began adult life. She married the love of her life, Cecil Gordon Braddock, in 1953 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 1, 2018, shortly before his passing. In addition to being a devoted wife; she was a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Maxine not only created a loving home life for her family full of unconditional love, but she also was an avid crafter, baker, and reader, as well as a lifelong jokester. While experiencing trying times throughout her life, she overcame these obstacles through her strength, work ethic and wisdom, which she passed onto her family and friends. Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her siblings, several nieces and nephews, her son – James, her daughter – Marilyn, and her grandson – Joseph “Joey”. She is survived by her children: Theresa Velazquez (Robert), Julie Hall (Randy), Maggie Fine (Blake) and Richard Braddock (Stephen); daughter-in-law, Pam Braddock; ten grandchildren – Jamie, Sarah, Rebekah, Emily, Adam, Amanda, Joshua, Courtney, Zachary and Dylan; and eight great-grandchildren – Ethan, Lily, Nathan, Noah, Payton, Izzy, Logan and Ellie. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many family and friends who helped care for Maxine over the last six weeks of her life, as well as the staff at Warren Memorial and Shenandoah Memorial Hospitals for their caring and dedicated support to Maxine and her family during these difficult times. The family also extends its thanks and love to Ethel Doyle, David Strulson and Stephen Culver for their unconditional support for Maxine and the family over the last five years. In addition, the family wishes to thank Blue Ridge Hospice for its help in allowing her to pass with dignity and grace. All of these individuals helped Maxine pass on her terms and in her home, which were her longtime wishes. Bertie Marie Hooper Woods was born December 8, 1938 in Cambridge, MD to the late Albanus Hooper Sr. and Sarah Elliott Hooper. She transitioned peacefully from this life on February 9, 2024 at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, VA. A Home Going Service will be held on Thursday, February 15 at 12:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 32 North Royal Ave., Front Royal with The Rev. Dr. Christy McMillin-Goodwin officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. at the church on Thursday. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Interment will be on Friday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. in Culpeper National Cemetery, 305 US Ave., Culpeper, VA. She was a proud graduate of Mace’s Lane High School in Cambridge, MD. She embarked on a journey in nursing after working at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a receptionist in the Personnel Department. She attended Bowie State University in Bowie, MD and took courses in Business Education. She later enrolled in the field of Cosmetology where her talents extended to the realm of beauty as she opened her own salon in Rochester, NY, showcasing her passion for hairstyling. On August 5, 1967 Bertie embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship as she joined in marriage with Alfred Woods of Preston, MD. For 56 years their bond grew stronger with each passing day, filled with shared joys, laughter, and cherished memories. Together they explored the wonders of the country, delighting in the adventures of travel and the simple pleasures of being in each other’s company. Their love story, marked by devotion and unity, remains an enduring testament to the power of enduring love. Bertie’s vibrant spirit and profound love for music illuminated her life’s journey. Whether singing, playing the piano (sometimes an organ at home) or composing soul-stirring melodies for churches, her musical prowess resonated with warmth and passion. Her dedication to music led her to assist in producing her own gospel album entitled “Something Had to Break for Me”, a project that filled her with immense excitement and pride. Her musical talents were not confined to personal projects. She also directed the Youth Choir at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Front Royal, VA, where her commitment to nurturing young voices shone brightly. Bertie found joy in singing with various church groups and sharing her gift of composing songs with them, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were touched by her music. Bertie’s dedication to her community extended beyond her musical talents. She poured her creativity into writing church plays for special occasions, adding a touch of theatrical magic to religious celebrations. Actively engaged in various church activities, she exemplified service and compassion, embodying the spirit of kindness and generosity. Her involvement in local charities and community groups showcased her commitment to making a difference. Bertie’s leadership shone through as she coordinated local fundraisers, including initiatives like the St. Luke Community Clinic, Meals on Wheels, and the Town of Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department, among other noble endeavors. Her selflessness and tireless efforts left an indelible impact on her community, embodying the true essence of altruism and good will. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Rhonda Scott-Dingwall in 2019; sisters, Ruth Henson, Erma Gibson, and Ramona Kennedy; brothers, Ruben Hooper and Rommie Hooper; and brothers-in-law, Winfield Henson, Donald Gibson, and Elwood Kennedy. Bertie leaves to mourn, her devoted husband, the Rev. Patty was born April 6, 1932 in Charles Town, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Edward Chamblin and Rose Bell. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wesley L. Cornwell. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Beulah Lee Foster of Gerrardstown, West Virginia and Marie Chamblin of Winchester, Virginia. She was a member of the Riverton United Methodist Church and B.P.O.E. Lodge 2382 in Front royal. Surviving are two sons, Ronney L. and daughter-in-law Betty, G. Cornwell of Mt. Crawford, Virginia and John. W. and daughter-in-law, Cindy S. Cornwell of Front royal; one daughter, Bonnie C. and son-in-law James R Williams of Naples, Florida; one sister, Caroline “Sally” DeHaven of Winchester; one brother, Marshall “Pete” Chamblin of Wichita Falls, Texas; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
