Word has been received of the death of Melvin Denton Jones who died Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 90. Melvin Denton Jones was born February 9, 1933 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Herman H. and Nellie (Griffin) Jones. He grew up in Lawton, attending Lawton High School. He married Winnie Gibbins in Lawton, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death on February 16, 2015. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at a young age and served as an Electrician's Mate and had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Following his discharge in December of 1955 he returned to Lawton and accepted a position with Civil Service at Fort Sill as an electrician. He retired from Civil Service on April 30, 1988. Following his retirement, he relocated to Loco, Oklahoma and joined the Loco Volunteer Fire Department, dedicating 23 years to this vital community organization, and also took charge of the rural water department. He was a member of the VFW and the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed race cars and horses. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Shawn Isom; three grandchildren, Remi Clarissa Isom, Noam Patrick Isom and Ozzy William Isom; as well as his sister, Deloris. His parents and a brother, Donald Jones, preceded him in death.

Graveside service with full military honors for SFC (Retired) Ellis "Wes" Stewart will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 10:00 a. m. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Ellis Wesley Stewart of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the age of 80 years with his wife, JoAnne, of 56 years by his side. Ellis "Wes" was born April 18, 1943 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to Arthur E. and Anna Lee (Dowell) Stewart. The youngest of 5 children, Wes enlisted in the U. S. Army to serve his country across the years in Vietnam, Germany, and numerous military installations across the United States. He quickly became known throughout his unit for his musical ability and was frequently asked to entertain his fellow soldiers with his unique piano playing style and beautiful acoustic guitar ability. While stationed in Germany, Ellis met the love of his life, JoAnne, at a U. S. Service Club where they both shared a passion for music, laughter, and good food. Love at first sight, they married on December 21, 1967 and began their lifelong journey. Along the way, they were blessed with two children, Robert Leland Stewart and Kathryn Marie Stewart and many lifelong friends around the globe. At the end of his U. S. Army career, Wes was transferred to Fort Sill where he and JoAnne knew they had found their forever home once they met the wonderful people in Lawton. After retiring from the Service, Wes elected to stay in Lawton and work in Civil Service at Fort Sill for 20+ years where he taught radar and electrical courses. His love of music manifested itself in guitar playing, piano, and harmonica and he became a frequent musician at various locales around Lawton. Wes is survived by his wife of 56 years; his son, Robert Stewart of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Kathryn (Stewart) Marshall of Novato, California; grandson Zane; son-in-law, Charles Marshall; brother Daniel Stewart of St. Petersburg, FL; sister, Barbara (Stewart) Juns of Redlands, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wants to give special thanks to all the staff of Choice Hospice, especially Melissa and Connie; to all the caregivers from ComfortKeepers; and to Mrs. Burgess and Lorena at The Burgess Grill for making Thanksgiving special.Show more

Funeral service for Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Wolf will be at 2:00 p. m. Friday, December 8, 2023 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Wolf of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the age of 90. Jackie was born May 10, 1933 to Grace Champion and Jack Cooper in Chickasha, Oklahoma. When she was a small child, her family moved to Geronimo, Oklahoma where she attended elementary school. In 1943, the family moved to Lawton where she attended Will Rogers and Lincoln Elementary schools and Lawton High School. She played clarinet in the Lawton High School Band and was State Conductor of the Theta Rho Girls Club for two years. On July 7, 1951, Jackie married Fred M. Wolf in Palisades, New Jersey after Fred returned from Korea. They lived in New Jersey until 1954 when they moved back to Lawton where they spent the rest of their lives. Jackie was a homemaker and antique dealer. Her hobbies were embroidery, antiquing and fishing with her husband. She was PTA president and carnival organizer at Taft Elementary School for two years and a volunteer at her church and local hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was an avid antique collector and opened The Wolf's Den Antique shop in 1968. Jackie supplied many other antique shops with rare finds as she and Fred traveled every summer looking for special items. After 20 years, she closed her shop and began conducting estate sales in and around Lawton in addition to appraisals for insurance companies, antique shops and private homes. Jackie was blessed with two wonderful children, Michael Ross and Lynda Susan who were the pride of her life. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Cooper, stepfather, Elmer McCauley, mother, Grace McCauley and husband Fred. She is survived by her son, Michael Wolf, his wife Debbie and her daughter Lynda Wolf, four grandchildren - Michael Joseph Wolf, Brittney Marie Wolf, Nicholas Ross Hysaw, Christopher Adam Hysaw and four great grandchildren - John, Lexi, Mason and Ryder. Funeral service for Rodney Jay Morgan, 63, of Cache, OK will be held at 1:00 p. m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at New Life Assembly of God Church with Rev. David McCracken officiating. Mr. Morgan passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at his home in Cache, OK surrounded by his loving family. Burial will be at Post Oak Cemetery, Indiahoma, Oklahoma under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 9:00 a. m. until 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Rodney was born on August 30, 1960 in Vallejo, California to Jay D. and Beulah Lucille (McClung) Morgan. He grew up in Cache where he attended school. The family moved to Germany and Rodney excelled in basketball and won the American Basketball High School Championship of Europe in 1976. Returning to Lawton, he graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1978. Rodney then worked for the family business, Superior Plumbing in Lawton. He moved to Springfield, Missouri where he met Miss Kristy Powers and they were married on June 4, 1983 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their son, Joshua was born on August 26, 1986. They came to Lawton in 1989 and their daughter, Kristina was born on March 6, 1993. They then settled in Cache, Oklahoma in 1993 to raise their family. Rodney then began his career as a Sales Merchandiser where he stayed for over 40 years before retiring from Hop and Sac in 2023. Rodney was a proud and devoted father who loved his children and had a very close relationship and special bond with his son and daughter. Rodney and Kristy attended New Life Assembly of God Church and the Lawton Christian Center for many years. He was a self taught singer/songwriter and had a music ministry for over 40 years with his wife. For 10 years, he and his son ran a recording studio in Lawton which was a fun gathering place for fellow singers, songwriters and musicians. He had a loveable sense of humor but above all, Rodney was a student of the word of God and loved being in the presence of the Lord. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kristy Morgan, of the home; his daughter, Kristina Renee Morgan and son in law, Jerami Casteel, of Cache, OK; his son and daughter in law, Joshua Robert and Kirstie Morgan, of Yukon, OK; his sister and brother in law, Jackie Morgan Truelove and Scott Truelove, of Lawton, OK; his sister in law, Gail Beth Dixon, of Cache, OK; grandchildren, Zayden Eli Morgan and Mayson Jay Morgan; his mother in law, Linda J. McDaniel, of Springfield, MO; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving family members whom he dearly loved. . Interment will be in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Glenda J. Landry, 86, of Lawton passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. She was born April 26, 1937, in Roff, Oklahoma to Herman E. "H. E. " and Trula (Hooser) Solomon. She met her husband Gerald A. Landry when they were 13 years old, and married when they were 17 on October 16, 1954, in Lawton. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2021. Together they had three children, Debbie, Carolyn, and Gerald Paul. Glenda worked in children's daycare most of her adult life, starting at Jack & Jill Childcare which was located at the First Church of God in Lawton. Glenda's mother managed Jack & Jill and Glenda took care of the babies. She then managed Trula's Daycare before finally she and her husband owned and operated ABC Daycare until 1988. Glenda loved Christmas time, the festivities of it all and especially the old classic Christmas songs. She loved God and her church where she sang in the choir. One of her favorite enjoyments was the Tuesday Lady's Brunch. This group met, ate, and fellowshipped every Tuesday at Cracker Barrel. Glenda is survived by her three children, Debbie Short and husband Brad of Grand Prairie, Texas, Carolyn Mathews and husband Larry of Lawton, Gerald Paul Landry and wife Michele of Granbury, Texas, 5 grandchildren, Amy Graham and husband Truman of Weatherford, Texas, Scott McKinney of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Phillip Davis and wife Mercedes of Azle, Texas, James Mathews of Lawton, Oklahoma, Amanda Adams and husband James of Washington D. Ginger Sue Harris, age 65, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away after a short illness on November 14, 2023. She was born on April 15, 1958, in Dade City, Florida. Ginger was a free spirit who adored her family and friends. She had an incredible love for music and participated in various musical events, including the "Living Christmas Tree" and Easter Cantatas at First Baptist Church in Lawton. Ginger also dedicated her time as a volunteer trainer for the American Red Cross Southwest Oklahoma Chapter and the Oklahoma Civil Air Patrol. Ginger is survived by her brothers Keith of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Rick of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Ken of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Steven of Hertford, North Carolina and life partner, Philip Berchtold of Lawton, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene and Tex Harris, and her sister, Karen Sue Harris of Lawton, Oklahoma. Ginger received her education at Garfield Elementary, Tomlinson Junior High and Lawton Senior High Schools in Lawton, Oklahoma. She furthered her education with a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Music at Cameron University, also in Lawton. Ginger worshipped at both First Baptist and Cameron Baptist Churches in Lawton. In her free time, Ginger truly loved to sing and share her passion for music whenever she could. She and Philip enjoyed visiting National parks all around the country and participating at Renaissance Fairs throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado.
