Carolyn Louise Hunter of Forked River, NJ passed away surrounded by her beloved family on February 24, 2024, far too soon at the age of 66. Born on December 11, 1957, in Jersey City, NJ, she was known for her unwavering dedication to her work and her family, her generous and caring spirit, the love she had for her children and dogs, her obsession with the color purple, and being the queen of QVC, always glamorous and coordinated. Carolyn was a graduate of the Academy of St. Aloysius (1975) and graduated nursing school at Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing (1978) and New Jersey City University (1981) with her RN-BSN. She loved her girls from the academy and her time in nursing school and has kept many of them close to her heart all these years. Carolyn’s career began as an emergency room nurse at Jersey City Medical Center where she touched and healed the lives of people every day and made lasting friendships with her peers. Her colleagues often spoke of her as a mentor and role model. Throughout her distinguished career as a nurse, Carolyn served as Recording Secretary (1995-1999), Vice President (1999-2003), and President (2003-2005) of the New Jersey College Health Association, of which she took great pride in. She was an active member of the executive board after her nomination for emeritus status years past her well-deserved retirement. Carolyn served as the Supervisor of the Health & Wellness Center at New Jersey City University from 1984-2017, an incredible 33 years, and retired after devoting nearly four decades of her life to the noble profession of nursing. To her children, Carolyn will always be known for her ability to solve any problem, her unending support, and a legacy of compassion and selflessness that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Carolyn is survived by her cherished son Michael Evan Hunter (30, Forked River, NJ), who has been a loving, devoted caregiver; dearest daughter, Lauren Rachel Dawson (32, Ocean Township, NJ) who follows in her footsteps at Jersey City Medical Center as an ultrasound technologist and her beloved son-in-law Nicholas Daniel Dawson (Ocean Township, NJ); aunt Sr. Anita Richard Heilenday (Convent Station, NJ); ex-husband Michael Francis Hunter; cousins Mary Lou Schabel (Charleston, SC), Mark Heilenday (Virginia Beach, VA), and Alicia Heilenday (Virginia Beach, VA); and dogs who brought her endless companionship and joy, Dori, Dexter, and Milo. She is gone too soon and will be deeply missed by the countless lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey and can never be forgotten. Carolyn is joined peacefully in heaven by her parents Dominick and Myra Amato, her brother Fr. Benet Amato, her uncle Richard Heilenday, and grandparents Richard and Lillian Heilenday. Services for Carolyn Louise Hunter will be held on Sunday, March 3rd 2024 at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Rt. 35, Wall Township, NJ 07719 from 1PM-5PM and on Monday, March 4th at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 979 Ave. C, Bayonne, NJ 07002 at 11AM with burial immediately to follow at Holy Name Cemetery, 823 West Side Ave., Jersey City, NJ 07306.

"Robert \u0026quot;Bob\u0026quot; MacFarlane, 87, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024. He was born and raised in South River, New Jersey. Bob served in the Air Force Reserves and the New Jersey Air National Guard as an Aircraft Mechanic. After serving, Bob worked for Schweitzer Division of Kimberly Clark in Spotswood, New Jersey and later worked at Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station in Forked River, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Bessie, in 2015. He is survived by his two sons and daughters in law. John (Laurie) Robert (Marybeth) and his one grandson Ian. As per Bob\u0027s wishes there will not be a service and cremation will be private."

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe “Digger” DeTroia. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. Joe was born December 25 1958 to Ann and Anthony DeTroia of Newark NJ. Moving to Forked River at the age of 15 Joe was a graduate of Central Regional High School class of 1976. Joe has been happily married to his wife Tricia for 38 years. He is survived by his wife, his loving children and their families; Kailee, Joseph and Kate and their daughter Natalie, Brenna and Dave and their children Hunter Paisley and Peyton, Devon, and his 3 dalmatians Max Marley and Murphy. He is also survived by his mother Ann DeTroia, his sisters Patti, Theresa, and Maryann, their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Joe was an avid sports fan, he played softball with the Forked River Buzzards for over 20 years creating lifelong friendships that he cherished. Joe had an unwavering love for the Colts and football Sundays. Joe loved having a good time with his family and friends. In the summer months he enjoyed camping, canoeing, and could always be found in his pool with a cold drink in hand and tequila on ice. Mary Louise Johns (nee Luster), 79, of Forked River, NJ, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she lived in Barnegat, NJ before moving to Forked River 2 years ago. Mary Lou enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City with her sisters. She loved being with her grandchildren and watching them play sports. She was their biggest cheerleader. She also loved the water, especially going crabbing and sailing with her son. Mary Lou also loved her animals. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold W. Johns, Jr. in 2021. Mary Lou is survived by her children Harold W. Johns, III and his wife Jennifer of Milltown, NJ, Joan E. osephine (Josette) Baldelli of Forked River passed away in her home on Tuesday February 6, 2024. Josette was born to Fred and Eleanor Fiumefreddo and resided in Brooklyn. She attended Lafayette High School, and went on to Kingsborough Community College and Brooklyn College earning her masters degree in education. She taught at Happy Land Pre-School for a few of years before beginning her journey as a second grade teacher at Our Lady of Miracles School in Canarsie. Josette met the love of her life, Phil, in 1982 on the B1 bus, and they got married in 1983. They shared 40 wonderful years together. In 1999, Phil, Josette, and their daughter Nicole, moved to Forked River and have enjoyed living here ever since. Josette loved to read and particularly enjoyed Lancaster, PA and all things Amish. Josette is survived by her husband Phil, her daughters: Nicole and her husband Jeff, Maria and her husband Tom, Patty and her husband Diego, her sister Monica and her husband John, her 3 grandchildren Nick, Sami Jo, and Gaby, and her extra special grand pup: Molly.

Raymond John Gudzak of Forked River, Lacey Township, passed away at home peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024. Formerly of Kearny, New Jersey, Ray was one of three children born to Jane and John Gudzak. After graduating from Kearny High School, he attended Newark School of Engineering, then went on to work for General Motors. Ray married the beautiful love of his life, Camille. Ray and Camille not only had their marriage blessed by the Pope, they danced and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last April with family and friends. The couple relocated to Forked River where he began a career in construction. Not only did Ray build several homes and strip malls in Lacey, he took a path to teach his trade and craftsmanship at the Ocean County Vocational Technical School. He taught there for many years until he retired. In addition to Ray’s fulltime occupations, he found time to participate very actively within the Roman Catholic Church. Ray served as a Eucharistic Minister, spearheaded the Youth Group, taught CCD, participated in many retreats, and much more. However, Ray always had his partner and the love of his life, Camille, by his side! Coaching youth soccer, especially the Lacey Cobra Travel team, was dear to his heart! In addition to his love of soccer, Ray was a sports fan that enjoyed his N.Y Giants and golfing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jane and John Gudzak. Raymond is survived by his wife Camille, four children; Donna Spaventa (Joseph), Gary Gudzak, Duane Gudzak (Robyn), Debra Swinney (David), brother John Gudzak (Anne); sister Janice Villafana (Andrew), fifteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Frank was born on November 30th, 1946, and peacefully left this world surrounded by his family at 11:30 PM on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, at the age of 77. Frank's enduring legacy is beautifully intertwined with the love and companionship he shared with his wife, Barbara Valentino, for an incredible 56 years. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters, Jackie, Valerie, and Jill, and built a family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. His presence will forever be felt through the lives of his three granddaughters, Ashley, Ava, and Gianna, who were the joy of his later years. Frank's devotion to family extended beyond blood ties, as he cherished lifelong friendships with companions such as Sam, Frank, Lou and Mike Ferraro, Frank Pupa, and Michael Carbonaro, some of whom he knew for over 71 years. A man of resilience and hard work, Frank was not only a dedicated business owner but also an Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He ran his own auto body shop, "Frankies Auto Body," alongside his friends and beloved wife. Their shared commitment and passion for their work created a thriving business that stood as a testament to their enduring partnerships. Frank's love for animals was evident in the kinship he shared with his canine companions over the years. He leaves behind cherished memories with his dogs Toby, Roxy, and Bailey. Raised in Fords, New Jersey, Frank's roots were firmly planted in the state he called home throughout his life. Eventually settling in Forked River, New Jersey, Frank found his forever home by the water, where he continued to pursue his lifelong passion for boating. His love for the open sea brought joy and countless shared moments of laughter and camaraderie with those closest to him. Frank is now at rest, reunited with his mother Clara, father Nicholas, and sister Enes. While he may no longer be with us in person, the memories of his laughter, his dedication, his love for life, and his honorable service to his country will forever remain in our hearts. Obando, 75, of Forked River, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, Olga moved to the United States in 1972 as a newlywed and has resided in Forked River for the past 5 years.  She was passionate about gardening, detailed craft work, and using her unique talent to create a gorgeous haven of a home. For Olga, dancing was more than an occasional leisure activity, as she danced with her husband daily to their favorite salsa music. Even beyond that music was a constant throughout Olga's home. Furthermore, she was known for her incredible cooking, extraordinarily delicious and delicately decorated Christmas cookies and cakes whose recipes she continually developed over the course of her life.  She loved nothing more than making these for her husband, her son, and her beloved guests any chance she got. She will be remembered for her loving, sweet, caring, kind spirit and her devoted compassion for her family.Predeceased by her parents, Francisco Valverde Carvajal and Flora Solano Coto, her brother Mario Valverde, her sister Yamileth Valverde; she is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Jose S. Obando; her loving son, Christopher Obando and his partner, Stephanie Levenson; her siblings, Ana Valverde, Rodrigo Valverde, Roberto Valverde, Alvaro Valverde, Teresa Valverde, Grace Medrano, Martha Widuch, Leda Valverde, Francisco Valverde, Lidieth Valverde, Lillian Arias, Geovanny Valverde, Rose Mary Valverde, and Karol Valverde; her nieces and nephews, extended relatives and friends.The viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home in Brick.  A eulogy will be shared at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. Dominic RC Church in Brick.Burial will follow at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery.

Sandra passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 11, 2024, at the age of 73. Sandy was born and raised in Rahway, NJ, where she lived until 1984 when she moved with her family to Forked River, NJ. Sandy loved the shore life and exploring the best restaurants Ocean County has to offer. Sandy enjoyed shuffle board at the Elks, crocheting, scrapbooking, puzzles and always had a book to read, her favorite was Gone with the Wind. Sandy especially loved spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren and bragging about them to anyone who would listen. Sandra is survived by her son Philip and wife Michele; son Eric and wife Alana; daughter Jennifer and partner Jon; daughter Christine; grandchildren Leah, Theodore, Daniel, Katherine, Thomas, Julien, Genevieve, Charlie; brother Joseph Snegon; brother Roy Snegon; and sister Joanne (Snegon) Martin. Sandra is predeceased by her ‘partner in wine’ and beloved husband of 40 years Stuart Knorr, and her loving parents Joseph and Claire (Roy) Snegon. We wish to thank Michele Snegon for the loving and caring support that Sandy received. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made in Sandra's honor to the Village Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held at Layton’s Home for Funerals in Forked River on January 20th at 11am with a Memorial Service at 12pm and a Celebration of Life to follow.
