Mattie Wardean Reeves, 95, has passed from this life to the joys of heaven. She was born in the Hurricane community in Pontotoc County, MS to parents Beulah Irene and Charles W. Matkin, Sr. She graduated from Pinedale High School in Etta, MS before working for South Central Bell for 43 years. Wardean was married for 39 years to her cherished husband, Lowell Douglas "L. D. " Reeves, with whom she lived in Jackson, TN until his death. She was a longtime member of West Jackson Baptist Church where she had many friends and was a member of the Deborah Sunday School class. Wardean also enjoyed involvement with her monthly dinner club and the Telephone Pioneers of America where she had even more longtime friends. Upon moving to Olive Branch, MS to be close to family, Wardean was active at First Baptist Church of Olive Branch, the Lighthouse Sunday School class, and the Olive Twigs group. Most of all, she loved time with her family and was renowned for her inimitable cooking skills. Meals were a time for gathering loved ones, and she took joy in being a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and faithful example of God's love for her family. It is with faith in Christ that her family is assured of her place at His table in the heavenly kingdom. Wardean is preceded in death by her parents, Beulah Irene and Charles W. Matkin, Sr. ; siblings Jeanette Palmer and Marilyn Weeden; and her husband, L. D. Reeves. She is survived by her brother, Charles W. Matkin, Jr. (Brenda) of New Albany, MS; daughters Brenda Boon (Trip) of Brentwood, TN and Marsha Simonton (Derek) of Olive Branch, MS; grandchildren Jeffrey Boon of Brentwood, TN, Ashley Asher (Scott) of Dothan, AL, Garrett and Grayson Simonton of Olive Branch, MS; great-grandson John Reeves Asher of Dothan, AL; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 12-1 p. m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, 2812 North Highland, Jackson, TN 38305 with a funeral service following at 1 p. m. Bro. Jerrod Brooks, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church Olive Branch will officiate the service. Burial will follow the service at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3360 North Highland, Jackson, TN 38305. On Saturday, October 21, 2023, the family will receive friends from 3-4 p. m. at First Baptist Church Olive Branch, 9155 Highland St. , Olive Branch, MS 38654 with a Celebration of Life beginning at 4 p. m. Bob Arnold, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at his home in Jackson, Tennessee. He was born into a sharecropper family in Medon, Tennesssee on April 28, 1933 to the late Carl and Ella Mae Arnold. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Louellen Arnold; three brothers, Sam Arnold, Jim Arnold and Kenneth Arnold; and three sisters, Bertie Abbitt, Liz Tims and Katie Coley. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Anne Arnold of Jackson; two sons, Beau Arnold and his wife Ballary of Medina and John Arnold and his wife Cassie of Jackson; two daughters, Meredith Marks and her husband Steve of Jackson and Patti Barnes and her husband Michael of Jackson. Other survivors include twelve grandchildren, Carrie, Trey, Louanna, Ty, Bella, Justin, Kristin, Sue Ellen, James, Sara, Jozie and Cali; nine great grandchildren, Jack, Stella, Briana, Rylie, Ava James, Adrian, Vera Ellen, Mason and Miller; one great great granddaughter, Aubrey; and many nieces and nephews. After being the only one in his family to go to college, he went on to become a husband, father, photographer, farmer, singer and song writer. He was the director of photography at the Jackson Sun for thirty-one years and was awarded photographer of the year in 1961 by the Tennessee Press Association. Bob, along with his photography department, won multiple awards for their news photography. He was one of the first photographers to photograph night time sports using only available light. After leaving the Jackson Sun, he and his wife operated their own studio for seventeen years. Bob then retired and developed his passion for singing and song writing. He made many friends through music. He was a good "used car finder" and helped many family members find a good deal. He could buy the car over the phone and have it held for him because he was kind, gentle and his word was his bond. Bob was slow to act, but give him a night to sleep on it and he could solve any problem. He came a long way from a sharecropping beginning, but always kind and simple to the very end. Nancy Jane Hall, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of her loving family on Wednesday evening, November 29, 2023, at the age of 85. She was born on October 7, 1938, in Jackson, TN to John W. and Jane Harris Parham. Nancy Jane’s life was filled with love and dedication to her family and community. She was a woman of faith who lived a life centered around serving others and had a passion to share the Gospel. Nancy Jane exemplified the true meaning of devotion and selflessness. In her career, Nancy Jane was most proud to have worked for her father, her husband, son, and brother-in-law. Alongside her beloved husband Bill, she was known for their ownership of the Old Town Western Store and the Carl Perkins Music Store and Museum in Jackson from 1970 until 1983. There were many fond memories and friendships made during those years. Nancy Jane will be remembered as a prayer warrior for her grandchildren as well as for others. She devoted her life to serving others and always found time to ask those around her, "How can I pray for you?" Her prayers were filled with love and compassion that brought comfort to those who were fortunate enough to receive them. Nancy Jane had an incredible prayer ministry that touched the lives of many. One of Nancy Jane's defining characteristics was her joyful spirit. She faced life's challenges with unwavering optimism and always wore a big smile that could brighten anyone's day. Throughout her lifetime, she accomplished much. She served as a lifetime Sunday School teacher and was a fine example of what it means to live a life rooted in faith. As a leader in the Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA), she spread joy and encouragement every step of the way. Nancy Jane also played an integral role as the volunteer director for the Madison County Sheriff's Department Jail Ministry. She had a heart for those who needed guidance and support during their time of need. Additionally, Nancy Jane selflessly volunteered as a mentor for Men and Women of Hope and the City of Jackson Recovery Court, offering hope to individuals on their journey towards healing and recovery. In 2010, Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris, proclaimed Tuesday, June 15, as Nancy Hall Day. In her personal life, Nancy Jane cherished her family above all else. She was deeply loved by her husband Bill, who shared wonderful memories with her over the years. Together, they created a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. Nancy Jane leaves behind her children, Tresa Whitehead (Jay) of Jackson, TN, and Andy Hall (Melissa) of Jackson, TN; her brother, Pat Parham of Jackson, TN; and her sister, Juanita Shaw of Jackson, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren, John (Becky) Whitehead, Leah Claire Hall, William Hall, and Olivia Hall, as well as her great-grandchildren Garrett and Madelynn Mae Whitehead. Nancy Jane was blessed with many special nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Bill Hall; brothers, Jack Parham and Terry Parham, and her precious granddaughter Sarah Beth Whitehead. Services: Nancy Jane's Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the Ministry Center Chapel at Fellowship Bible Church. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM and continue until the service time. The burial will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Grady Lee Maners, 78, of Jackson, TN died a sudden death on November 28, 2023. He was born in London, England in 1945 to Grady Oscar Maners and Joyce Lillian Smith Maners. He grew up in the Westover community. After marrying the love of his life, Barbara Keel Maners in 1965, they remained in the Westover community and raised their daughters. He was a member of Westover Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. In 1991, he and his wife moved to the Beech Bluff area and joined East Union Baptist Church. He continued to serve the church and the people. Grady attended North Side High School. He also attended IBEW Local apprenticeship program where he became a master electrician. Grady worked at many electrical companies in the Jackson, TN area and then opened his own electrical contracting business. Grady also loved farming. He would spend countless hours bailing hay, feeding cows and doing work around the farm. Grady and his wife have two daughters. Regina Maners Moloney, married to Jerry Moloney and Tracy Maners Parker, married to Terrell Parker. His daughters were the light of his world. He has one grandson, Parker Allen Ward, son of Regina Maners Moloney and John Allen Ward, Jr. Parker was Grady's pasture buddy, shared the love of fishing, shooting guns, and eating honey buns. He also has four step-grandchildren, Griffin Coffelt, Tara Moloney Elder, Blake Moloney and Allison Moloney. He has five step great-grandchildren. Grady loved visiting neighbors and mentoring youth. He had a love for animals, especially cows and dogs. You would normally see Grady out in the field with hundreds of cows with dogs tagging along. Grady was known for his work ethic, sense of humor, love for God and his compassion for others. He was always taking youth under his wing to teach, guide and realize higher goals. We will always remember the impact he had on our lives. We could not have asked for a better husband/father/brother/brother-in-law/uncle/friend and will miss Grady every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Oscar Maners and Joyce Lillian Smith, his grandparents Henry Oscar and Ina Marie Taylor Maners of Mercer, TN and Albert and Lillian Smith of Preston, England. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Keel Maners, daughters, Regina Maners Moloney and Tracy Maners Parker, grandson Parker Allen Ward, Siblings, James Allen Maners, Constance Maners Ward, Shirley Maners Mabry, Paul Lynn Maners and Mark Smith Maners, as well as many beloved family members. Services will be held at East Union Baptist Church, Jackson, TN. Visitation will be at 11 am. Funeral Services will be at 1 pm. His final resting place will be Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Jackson, TN, Maple Grove community.
