He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1974 and enlisted in the military that same year. Odyseas was a U. S. Navy veteran who honorably served his country during the Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm) and during peacetime. Throughout his illustrious career of 30 years in the military, he displayed dynamic leadership, technical expertise, and exceptional managerial skills for every position he held for Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) at Naval Air Station Oceana. After attaining the highest scholastic average of his class at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Millington, TN (1974), he impressively advanced through the ranks. He was first assigned to the USS Forrestal (CV-59) in 1980 and completed his first Mediterranean deployment, where he earned the "Jerusalem Pilgrimage" certificate (1980) and the "Blue Nose" certificate (1981). Within his first ten years of service, he became the Quality Assurance and Financial Management Division Chief (1984). Following this assignment, he was assigned to the USS John F. While deployed on the "Ike", he was most proud to have been designated as an Orthodox Lay Leader by Bishop Isaiah of Denver to deliver prayer services to those aboard the ship. He retired as an AZCM in 2004. His exceptional professionalism, unrelenting perseverance, and loyal devotion to duty was reflective in his numerous awards and decorations: three Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Navy & Marine Achievement Medals, five Meritorious Unit Commendation Medals, four Navy Battle "E" Ribbons, eight Navy Good Conduct Medals, Armed Forces Service Medal, two Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, two Southwest Asia Service Medals, Kuwait Liberation Medal, NATO Medal, and an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Breast Insignia. Family was always forefront in his mind and nothing made him happier than spending time with his wife and children. He also had a special love for his three grandchildren. He loved to travel the world with his family, he enjoyed spending time with his wife while cultivating their gardens and flowerbeds, and he took great pride in creating delicious Mediterranean dishes with Elizabeth. Odyseas was a devoted Orthodox Christian. He attended Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Virginia Beach since its inception and he truly enjoyed his time with the F. R. O. G Men (Men's Group).
