Vasanth Devadanam

Vasanth Devadanam

Age - 80

November 30, 2023

Vasanth Joseph Devadanam passed away with the comfort of family and in peace on November 22. He was the son of Drs. Joseph and Elizabeth Devadanam and was born on August 27, 1943 in Hyderabad, India. A perfectionist since youth, he excelled in math and physical sciences and pursued a degree in engineering. He was one of five siblings, and close to all of them. In his youth, he sought out laughter and was often rambunctious, sometimes even instigating prank phone calls in the 1950's. He and his brothers were often together and "causing mischief" so much so that he ended up at a different school for a time. It was at Saint Patrick's School that we think he found the straight and careful path. He excelled, graduated and "showed himself especially good at cricket, athletics and football. The document also noted that he bears 'a very good' character," graduating with strong marks. Vasanth was a voracious reader in his youth; philosophy and science were his major interests. He loved to refer to a Dictionary of Thoughts, to broaden his knowledge of great minds on various subjects. With family always close, he started his career working with his brother, in the air conditioning industry in the 1960's. He was known as a hard worker and was able to showcase his attention to detail and willingness to learn fully about a machine. In these years, he built on the confidence that would allow him to tinker and meddle with almost any item you could imagine. Throughout his career in many fields, he was always known as someone who would work intensely and with deep focus. He led by example and was a constant support and listener to those he worked with. People may have thought he was just gregarious at work, but he loved all conversations, the deep, hilarious (or deeply hilarious) with everyone. Vasanth left India in 1972 and would not return for over 30 years. His early journeys took him to Toronto and Ottawa, Canada, with visits throughout the region working in a number of varied fields. In 1980, Vasanth married Ramani Sunderaju, and began a different journey in Rochester, N. Y which also brought them two sons, Vinay and Sunil. From there to his eventual home in Lawrence, MA, he was always a consistent gentle presence and provided them with guidance, diving into learning about their careers and passions. His sense of humor and direct questions always ended up in a burst of laughter. He deeply loved his nephews and bonded with their wives and shared an affectionate relationship with them. Vasanth was a loving son to his parents, a loyal brother to his siblings, and proud father, uncle and grandfather to his larger family, most joyously his new grandchildren, Nikko and Riya and grandnephew Rishi. Vasanth had an insatiable curiosity which he could more fully explore in his later years. He connected deeply with the natural world and found endless joy in observing and documenting wildlife and wild places and his community. Those who knew him best knew that their interests were often of most interest to him. He placed great value on connecting with people and their passions. He had a profound sense of duty to his family and community, always eager to lend a helping hand. Vasanth's unshakeable faith gave him resilience to navigate life through challenging times. In quiet repose, he was proud to extend his legacy through generations and found fulfillment in familial bonds and with his community . A service to celebrate Vasanth's life will take place on Saturday, December 2nd at 11am in Andover at Conte Funeral Home. The service will be viewable online and you may email vinay. devadanam@gmail. com for further instructions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Point After Club in Lawrence, Massachusetts.Show more
