Mary Ward Obituary

"On May 4, 2023 Jesus opened his arms to greet Mary in heaven. She passed away at home in Tallahassee leaving behind her husband of 66 years John Farrell Ward Sr and her daughter Terry Ward Stevens (Jeff). She was preceded in death by her son, John Ward Jr, her parents Ernest Hayes Moore and Beadye Varie Moore, her siblings Jack Moore, Betty Moore, Linda Creasy, Patty Wells, Carol Ferguson, and Judy Liles. Mary was born in Lauderdale County Alabama in 1936. She graduated from Coffee High School, Florence Alabama, in 1953 and from Caraway Methodist School of Nursing, Birmingham Alabama, in 1956. Mary was a loving Air Force wife traveling across the country with Farrell for 20 years. They settled in Tallahassee in 1972 where they owned and operated The Bath Boutique in the Northwood Mall for many years. Mary was a Registered Nurse who volunteered as a mentor to Candy Stripers in California, as a Red Cross volunteer and as a school nurse volunteer at Leon High School. She spent many Sundays caring for the children in the Nursery at Westminster Presbyterian. Mary was a member of the GFWC Womens Club of Tallahassee enjoying serving the community in a variety of ways. She was a devoted grandmother to Brian Kyle Stevens (lovingly called BK by Grandma) and Kayla Elise Palko (John). Kayla and John blessed her with two great grandchildren Ashlynn and Trip. She is also known as Aunt Mary and survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mary never met a stranger, hosted many holiday dinners and was a surrogate Mom to many. Family was her world, she opened her home freely and you never left her house empty handed! There will be a brief graveside ceremony at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on May 19 at 10:00AM. Memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian on Saturday, May 20, at 11:00AM. Susie Mozolic of Bevis Funeral home is handling arrangements for the family.
