Mary Judith "Judy" Thompson, 78 of Painesville Twp. passed away October 2, 2023, at Vista Springs Assisted Living Facility in Concord. She was born June 19, 1945 in Euclid, Ohio to the late John and Esther (Wollet) Hoban. She grew up in the Arrowhead community of Willoughby. Judy enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers. Her greatest joy and pride came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She always looked forward to Sunday dinners and hosting Christmas Eve at her home for family and friends. She is survived by her sons Todd (Denise) Thompson and Tim (Dawn) Thompson and daughter Terri (Chris) Conley. She also leaves her grandchildren Bailey Conley, Christopher Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, Colin Thompson, Evan Conley and Nick Mighton as well as her sister Jan (Robert) Sternot and brother Robert (Vanessa) Hoban, and sister-in-law Barbara (Phillip-deceased) Dickinson. Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Albert "Gene" Thompson, brothers Charles (Marilyn) Hoban, Richard Hoban and Jack Hoban and brother-in-law Larry Thompson and Lou (Donna) Thompson. A memorial gathering will take place Friday, October 13, 2023, from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio 44077. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 10:00 a. m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Perry Cemetery. "The world bids farewell to a remarkable soul, Elias Vorvolakos who transitioned from this life on November 19th, 2023 at the age of 83. Born on May 22nd, 1940 in Marathea, Greece, Elias Vorvolakos faced adversity early in life surviving during the turmoil of and World War II and Greek Civil War. Courageously stepping into the role of responsibility, he became a pillar of support for his family that included his mother(Evanthia) and two young sisters(Fotini \u0026amp; Maria). Elias would later join the Hellenic Army, where he served as a radio operator. After his service he became a Merchant Marine, and journeyed extensively around the world. Seeking new opportunities and carrying dreams of a brighter future he came to New York City, where he met his wife Nancy and worked to create a life of prosperity starting his own business as a painter and contractor. Above all else Elias loved his family and valued spending time with them. In his spare time Elias enjoyed singing to Greek music, cooking, playing cards and tending to his thriving garden. He was also an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting for wild birds and fishing. Elias is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Camacho) Vorvolakos of over 45 years, daughter Eva Maria, son Vasilios (Alexandra) and his grandchildren. James (Jim) E. Sabo, 91, passed away Friday November 17, 2023, in Geneva, Ohio surrounded by family. He was born April 18, 1932, in Painesville, Ohio the son of the late Daniel and Margaret (Szaniszlo) Sabo. Jim graduated from Painesville Harvey High School and briefly attended Kent State University on a football scholarship before entering the United States Navy Air Corps, where he served in the Pacific during the Korean Conflict. He married the love of his life Donna Aikens on August 15, 1959, in Midland, Pennsylvania. A lifelong area resident, Jim was Vice President of Cottage Gardens, Inc. , and later the founder of Sabo's Woodside Nursery in Madison. Jim was one of the pioneers of container-grown nursery stock, and was a nationally recognized rhododendron hybridizer. He was a charter member of the International Propagator's Society and was a past member and President of the Nursery Growers of Lake County. He was honored with the 2019 Emeritus Award from the Nursery Growers of Lake County, in recognition of his outstanding service to the nursery industry. Jim enjoyed helping and collaborating with other growers and developed passion for growing succulents later in his life. He also loved to travel, tell stories, admire every beautiful flower he encountered, and spend time with his five granddaughters. Jim is survived by his son, Brian Sabo and daughter-in-law, Barbara Sabo, and his son, Timothy Sabo and daughter-in-law, Linda Sabo; sisters, Eleanor Polley and Dorothy Manischalchi; and granddaughters- Kristen, Jamie, Kylie, Caroline, and Rebecca Sabo. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna in 2020; siblings, Daniel and Edward Sabo, Margaret Bartok, and Elsie Susman; and his parents. Private family services will be held, and he will be laid to rest with his wife at Fairview Cemetery in Madison. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for all to share their memories and love for Jim. "Together Again" Louise "Weezer" Blatnica, 84, of Palm Harbor, Fla. , passed away peacefully Nov. 13, 2023, surrounded by family in Painesville. She was born Dec. 21, 1938, to Edward and Evelyn Rhodes. Louise was born in Allentown, Pa. , but spent the majority of her youth in Northeast Ohio. Louise later met the love of her life, Robert Blatnica and started a family of her own. At 49, Louise and Bob began the last chapter of their lives in Palm Harbor. Louise had a passion for cooking, baking and was known for her delicious cheesecakes, assortment of Christmas cookies, and homemade pies. When she was not baking, she enjoyed building puzzles, playing rummy cube and socializing with friends at Mystic Fish Restaurant. Louise worked as a waitress at the Sheraton as well as a dietary aide at St. Marks Village in Palm Harbor, Fla. , while maintaining the home Louise and Bob shared. When not at work, the remainder of her time was spent as a caregiver for her husband, Bob and the fulltime needs of her close friend, Madeline. The legacy she leaves behind is that of a deeply devout Catholic, whose faith was exemplified by her selfless giving and hard-working nature. Louise lived a life full of love, compassion, and joy. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her kindness touched the lives of all who knew her. Louise is survived by her children, Jennifer (Dominic) Casale, Rebecca (Mark) Naymik, and Robert (Pamela) Blatnica; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dylan) Dacar, Danelle (Ryan) Sisler, Michelle (Bobby) Bolger, Ryan (Katherine) Naymik, Brittany (Jacob) Sermak, Kimberly (Jacob) Cooper, Michael (Jenna) Naymik, Kali (Trent) Szente, Raymond Blatnica and Joseph (Melanie) Casale; great grandchildren, Tyler Sisler, Olyvia and Julia Dacar, Aubrey and Brenden Bolger, Lola and Logan Sisler, Caeden Bolger, Remington Szente, Aria Naymik, Theodore Sermak, and James Greyson Cooper, who will forever cherish the memories created with her; and brother, Louis (Bo) Rhodes of Dover, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Blatnica; daughter, Debra "Bunnie" Hunter; and brothers, Larry (Barb) and Bud Rhodes. Sam died on November 9, 2023 at the age of 72. He was born on August 2, 1951 to Thomas J and Irene (Rego) Shelby in Painesville, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Sally (Cameron) Shelby, sons Patrick and Matthew Shelby, daughter Crystal (LeShawn) Shelby Brown, sisters Kathy (Tim-deceased) Saluk, Nancy (Greg-deceased) Underwood, brother Jim (Sherry) Shelby, sister-in-law Linda (Larry) Legg, grandchildren Leyla and Carter Brown, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Gilbert and Marion Shelby, George and Elizabeth Rego, father-in-law Clarence Cameron and mother-in-law Norine Cameron, and several aunts and uncles. Whether working 40 feet off the ground or at ground level Sam enjoyed his long career as a window cleaner and owned a window cleaning business for many years. Besides his family, he also loved his two cairn terriers and his hometown of Fairport Harbor. He was a boater and fisherman who was drawn to the water from childhood. In his younger years he played baseball, softball, and flag football. From midget league to adult softball, if it was a baseball or softball Sam loved to throw it! "Dorothy Bolko, 80, a longtime resident of Painesville, OH, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Cleveland Clinic. She was born November 26, 1942 in Painesville, Ohio. Dorothy and Rodney were well known for their love of cars. You could always find them at all the car cruises and car shows cruising in Dorothy's 1969 Pontiac Lemans or Rodney's 1966 El Camino and every year attended the James Dean run in Indiana. They were also co-founders of The Goodtime Cruisers Club. Dorothy worked many years at the Patio ice cream store in Perry, Ohio and each year she hosted the annual Patio car show. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved to crochet and over the years made many afghans for family and friends. At any event Dorothy attended, she was always the face behind the camera and not in front. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and Harold Jones and the love of her life, her husband, Rodney E. Bolko. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Barry) DeWit and sons, Rodney G.
