Lucille M. Guzman

Sep 21, 1938 - Feb 19, 2024

location-icon

Corpus Christi, TX

Our mother, Lucille M. Guzman, passed peacefully from this earth and into God’s grace, February 19, 2024. She is free from the Alzheimer’s that took so much from her. She leaves behind a loving family that will miss her forever. Lucille was born September 21, 1938, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Elva Guerra and Manual Morales also of Corpus Christi. She was the second of five children that included Manuel, Jr., Samuel, Jesse, and Elias. Lucille left high school to attend the local business school where she learned valuable and practical skills that served her well throughout her life. After finishing business school, Lucille traveled to Chicago where she obtained a job at the Midas Company. She loved her job and loved Chicago, but she could never get used to the frigid weather, so she returned to her beloved and warm Corpus Christi, Texas. Soon after her return she met and married Alex Guzman in April 1962. They had four children, Veronica, Gerald, Yvette, and Adrian. In 1971, the family moved to Lakewood Heights in Huffman, Texas where Mom became an active member of the PTA and at one point serving as President of the group. She was the most supportive mother to all her children, whether it was volunteering at the school, baking cookies and cakes, or altering a dress for confirmation even though she didn’t know how to sew! There was no challenge so great that our mother didn’t meet head on and with resolve. Lucille and Alex moved back to Corpus Christi in 1985. Mom took a job with Target and remained with the company until her retirement in 2001. Our parents divorced in 1991 but they remained part of each other’s lives through the good times and tough times. In the last few years Lucille struggled with Alzheimer’s. This terrible disease may have stolen her memories, but it never took away her smile or her mischievous sense of humor. She always enjoyed drives around the city, and she especially loved driving along the bayfront. These drives always ended with a stop at Whataburger on Shoreline. Lucille is preceded in death by her daughter Yvette Monica Guzman, her parents, Elva Guerra and Manuel Morales, and her brother Elias Morales. She is survived by her daughter, Veronica Guzman Hays (Robert) and her sons Gerald Guzman (Lisa) and Adrian Guzman. She is also survived by her grand-children, Joe Guzman (Nancy), Jordan Guzman (Kelly), Hayley Remund (Chris), Kyle Hays and Kara Hays as well as three great-grandchildren, Luke Guzman, Emory Guzman, and Eleanor James Remund. Her brothers Manuel Morales (Olga), Samuel Morales (Janie) and Jesse Morales also mourn her passing. The Guzman family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her aides Joann Ramos and Yolanda Delgado and to the staff at Corpus Christi Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for their tender care of our mother. Mom loved her family, and we will miss her, but we will always remember her big smile and engaging laugh, her love of music and of course her devotion to Whataburger! Finally, we give thanks to God for his many mercies during this difficult time. Our mother did not suffer, she left us peacefully to be with her family in Heaven. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:30pm on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Seaside Reid Chapel with a Rosary at 6:00pm that same evening. Funeral Mass will be held the following day, Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 10:00am at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. Entombment at Seaside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Driscoll Children’s Hospital. To to the family, please
