Mary Jane Ross, 93, of Mt Pleasant and formerly of Iowa City and Burlington, died Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Park Place Elder Living in Mt Peasant Mary was born December 22, 1929 in Burlington, Iowa She was the daughter of John Thomas and Myrtle Marie (Hines) Ross the eldest of three girls: Joann (Royal) Timmerman now both deceased, and Barbara (David) Gibbs (David deceased) of Burlington, Iowa Mary lost the use of her left leg in a bathing accident when she was but 5 years old, later half of that leg would be amputated and Mary would embrace her new freedom from crutches and wheelchairs She married Daniel Mason Woolley in 1946 Together they would have four children and raise them in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado before returning to Iowa and divorcing Her children are Daughter - Carolyn Ann Gross (John) of Iowa City, Iowa, now deceased; Son - Michael David Woolley of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; Son - Richard Lewis Woolley also of Colorado, now deceased and Daughter - Jeannine Marie Christner (Todd) of Mt Pleasant, Iowa Mary is also survivied by eight grandchildren - Ted Detrick, Jason Gross, Kelly Wallace, Jennifer Garland, Heather Hammer, Christina Feehan, Danny Woolley, and Jordan Woolley From these eight grandchildren Mary received 16 Great Grandchildren living in California, Colorado, Minnesota, Maryland, and Iowa Mary is now a Great Great Grandmother to 4 little ones all living in the Mt Pleasant area These are just the beginning of the next generation Mary loved children and spent most of her life caring for them Family photo albums were filled with not just her children and grandchildren's pictures but all the children she cared for in her home daycare that she operated for 20+ years in Iowa City These children were all as much her family as any of her grandchildren In the late 1970s Mary had a born-again experience in her home From that day on she held Jesus as her Savior and told as many as would listen about Jesus and her experience Mary was a member of the Parkview Church in Iowa City, Iowa until she was unable to drive or find a ride Memorial Service arrangements are pending at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N Main St , Mt Pleasant Online condolences may be directed to www kimzeyfh com To to the family or in memory of Mary Jane Ross, please

Sheila Ann Bain, 72, of Mt Pleasant, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in the Emergency Room of the Henry County Health Center in Mt Pleasant Sheila was born July 19, 1951 in Mt Pleasant She was the daughter of Chester Wade and Rachel Ann (Lynchard) Bain, Sr She graduated from Mt Pleasant High School in 1970 Sheila was employed in the Housekeeping Department of the Henry County Health Center for 15 years and at the Iris Motel for 10 years She enjoyed watching baseball, especially attending the games of the Burlington Bees at Community Field She liked to play Bingo at the Veterans Club in Mt Pleasant and at the Eagles and Moose Clubs in Burlington Sheila was also known to enjoy an occasional trip to the casino to play the slot machines She liked playing cards with her brother Chet She took her parents on many trips, especially to the Christmas Lights in East Peoria, IL and the Donkey Days in Kahoka, MO The Fourth of July was always special for Sheila, as she had an immense love of fireworks displays Those thankful for sharing in Sheila's life include her brother and his wife, Chester "Chet" and Jan Bain, Jr of New London; 3 nephews - Bart, Bret (Tabitha) and Randy (Mandy) Bain and 5 great nieces and nephews - Josie, Sully, Lois, Bleier and Ward Bain Her parents and a brother, Jerry Bain, precede Sheila in death A graveside funeral service for Sheila will be held at 10 AM on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt Pleasant where interment will take place Friends may call to sign the register from 1-6 PM on Sunday, Oct 15 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant There will be no family visitation Memorials may be directed to the family Online condolences may be directed to www kimzeyfh com To to the family or in memory of Sheila Ann Bain, pleaseShow more

Shirley L. Hummell Mitchell, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, September 14, 2023 at her residence. Shirley Louise was born January 11, 1933 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Raymond Perry and Thelma Louise (Wright) Scott. She was raised near Belfast (a former community north of Rome) and attended school in Rome. On February 18, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant, Shirley was united in marriage to Arnold LuVern Hummell. Mr. Hummell preceded in death on February 14, 1993. Shirley then married John Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell preceded in death as well. Shirley was a longtime homemaker who also did babysitting for many people. She assisted her husband Arnold with the Hummell Tree Service. Shirley was a member of the Trenton United Methodist Church where she was an active volunteer for funeral dinners and other meals as well as the Red Barn and Souvenir Stand which the church operated at Midwest Old Threshers Reunion. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #2561 helping with the Poppy Sales for many years. In her spare time, Shirley was a collector of many things, and loved attending yard sales and auctions. Those thankful for sharing in Shirley's life include 2 sons - Kelly Hummell of Boone, IA and Mike Hummell and his wife Donna Marie of Eldon, IA; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Hummell of Mt. Pleasant; 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Her parents, both husbands, a son - Tim Hummell, a daughter-in-law, Christine Hummell, and 2 siblings - Donald Scott and Martha Hatch, precede Shirley in death. Friends may call from 12 Noon to 8 PM on Thursday, September 21 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 N. Main St. , Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7 PM on Thursday. A funeral service for Shirley will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 22 at the Trenton United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeffery A. McPheron officiating.
