Thomas "Tom" Peter Simek, age 42, of Jamestown, North Carolina passed away on November 14, 2023. He was born October 15, 1981, in Oakland, California, a son to Peter and Nadia Simek. Thomas was a 1999 graduate of West Aurora High School and later joined the U. S. Navy, serving until 2003. While in the Navy, he was stationed in Bremerton, Washington on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and was the recipient of several honors, including, the Good Conduct Medal, Air Warfare Pin, Surface Warfare Pin, and National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, he attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and later, received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at North Carolina State University. As a longtime resident of Illinois, Thomas loved Chicago sports and was an ardent fan of the Cubs and Bears. Thomas was a proud father to his son, Maxwell Simek (Thomasville, NC), whom he loved with all his heart. Also surviving is his father, Peter Simek of Montgomery, IL; two brothers, Philipe Simek (Amy) of Lantana, TX and Peter Simek of Leander, TX; his little sister, Nadia Schweisthal (Mike) of Aurora, IL; three nephews, Thaddeus, Nicholas, and Lukas Simek; a niece, Klara Schweisthal; and his son's mother, Tiffany Simek of Thomasville, NC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nadia M. Simek. A memorial service celebrating Thomas' life will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Two Brothers Roundhouse, 205 N Broadway, Aurora, IL 60505. Thomas will be laid to rest at Salisbury National Cemetery in North Carolina on December 7, 2023. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family for a memorial that will be established.Show more
