Mary Jackson, 90, passed away of natural causes Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Midland King's Daughters Home. Mary was born on May 23, 1931 in Hillsdale, Michigan, spent her youth in Reading, Mt. Pleasant and Bay City, and graduated as Valedictorian from Bay City Central High School. In her youth, Mary spent summers at the family cabin on the Ausable River, canoeing, swimming and fly-fishing with friends and family. She went on to earn her BA degree from Michigan State College, where she met her future husband, Larry, when both appeared in a campus production of "Green Grow the Lilacs. " While at Michigan State, Mary joined Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, and treasured the friendships she made there. Mary and Larry married in 1953, then moved to Ann Arbor where she taught English while her husband completed Dental School. Upon moving to Midland in 1958 when Larry began his dental practice, Mary became a devoted member of the Midland community. Mary and Larry were members of Memorial Presbyterian Church, where both served as Elders. Mary appeared on stage with the Theatre Guild, and went on to serve as board chair. She later chaired the Midland Center for the Arts and Family and Children's Service boards. Mary enjoyed spending time in northern Michigan with Larry and their two children, and treasured the memories of summers spent with her parents, brothers, nieces and nephews along the Ausable. She also valued the close friendships that developed with Midland families as their children grew up together. Mary is survived by her son Jim (Brenna) and granddaughter Hannah Jackson, of Midland; daughter Julie Gentry (Kendall) of Missouri City, Texas; brother Dick of Denver, Colorado; and multiple nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Larry and brother Fred. The family appreciates the excellent care Mary received while living at Midland King's Daughters Home.
