Mary E. Huffman, 92, of Iowa City, formerly of Riverside, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Legacy Point Garden Place in Iowa City. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, 2022, from 4:00 p. m. - 7:00 p. m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Vincent's Cemetery in rural Riverside. Following the committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary's Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Mary's Catholic Church in memory of Mary. Online condolences may be left for the family at www. sandhfuneralservice. com. Mary Elizabeth Shebek was born on October 15, 1929, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Celeste (Mellecker) Shebek. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary's High School and then graduated from Teacher's College. On September 16, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Leo A. Huffman in Riverside. She taught country school for three years and then worked for Mercy Hospital for 19 years transporting patients. Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Riverside V. F. W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, her flower gardens and the timber. Mary was known as the "Plant Lady". Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Carol Huffman of Iowa City, Joseph (Patricia) Huffman of Osage, Jan Huffman Case and (Bonnie Striegel) of La Crescent, Minnesota, James (Deanna) Huffman of Jacksonville, Florida, Michael (Traci) Huffman of Iowa City, Paula (Neal) Conry of Iowa City, Margaret (Michael) Kelley of West Des Moines, Mary (Thomas) Bishop of Colonial Heights, Virginia, Andrew Huffman of Kalona and Daniel (Carrie) Huffman of Riverside; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Patricia Hamer of Iowa City and Frances (Lloyd) Weber of Riverside and sister-in-law, Pat Shebek of Hills. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo on July 11, 1996; daughter, Kathy (Dave) McCauley; sister, Gertrude Shebek; brothers, Ed (Joan) Shebek and Paul Shebek and brother-in-law, Bob Hamer.
