John Morris Ward, 97, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Baptist Attala in Kosciusko. Funeral services are 11:00 am Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Kosciusko First United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Kosciusko City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the First Methodist Church. John Morris is survived by his son John Morris Ward, Jr., his grandchildren Michael Ward (Allison), Stephen Ward (Laura), Kimberly Keizur (Shaun) and Matthew Ward, and his great grandchildren Elliana, Adeline, Amelia, Zoe, Baker, Ebon, and Ashlynn. John Morris was a retired Accountant, having worked for the Attala Company in Kosciusko. He was an active member of First Methodist Church having served in numerous capacities within the Church. He was also a U S Army Veteran of World War II. He had been active with Habitat for Humanity, the Kosciusko Historical Society, Walk to Emaus, and Boy Scouts of America. He was an Author himself and helped with the Attala County History book. John Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Clotea Johnson Ward, his parents, Ebon and Lettie Lowery Ward, brothers Ebon Ward, Jr. and Douglas Ward, sisters Mary Catherine Patterson, Frances Cheek, Lettie Golson, Empress Christine Ward and Dorothy Haney, and daughter Sandra Gail Ward

Jan leaves 3 brothers Tim Poole, Michael Poole and Frankie Lacey (Christan). Mike leaves his sister Diane Wheeler. Jan was a former schoolteacher and served as a Justice Court Judge for Choctaw County. Mike was retired Choctaw County Sheriff. They attended Hopewell Baptist Church. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Loette Russell Poole. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Faye Burkes Hutchinson.

Berdie is survived by her daughters Betty Andras (Chris) and Janet Muirhead, her sister Debbie Stewart (Craig), 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Berdie was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Ruby Cheatwood Howell, her husband Louie Muirhead, son C C, and grandchild Robin. She was a member of Shiloh Church and a homemaker. Brother Gary Thornton will officiate the services.

Fred Allen Bell, Jr. went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2024. He was born on February 17, 1941, to Fred Allen Bell, Sr. and Maragaret Fleming Bell in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He graduated from Kosciusko High School in 1960 and from the University of Mississippi in 1965. While at Ole Miss, he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity where he was famous for being Santa at the annual Christmas party.After college, he joined his father in the concrete business, Bell Ready Mix. The concrete business was his calling and true passion. Doing the job right and having a satisfied customer was of utmost importance to him. Over the years in the business, he cultivated many friends statewide, and it was a tight group. He was a member of the Mississippi Concrete Association. In later years, he was involved in other business ventures, Klean Kut Outdoors and Bell Chevrolet.Fred Allen loved Kosciusko. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, member of the Rotary Club, Corporate Board member for First M & F Corporation, and Chairman of the Kosciusko Christmas Parade one year. His father had a love for cattle, horses, and his farmland Bellview Farms. Fred Allen followed in his father’s foot steps in his love for the farm as well. He spent countless hours cultivating the property and raising cattle with his lifelong friend J. L. Zollicoffer.Fred Allen married Judi Simpson in 1968. They had been married for almost 56 years. He is survived by his wife Judi; daughter, Toy Bell Wolfe (Carl) and granddaughter, Rachel Wolfe of Pelahatchie; grandsons Avery (Ali) Wolfe of Dallas, Texas, Noah and Owen Wolfe of Starkville; son, Al Bell of Oxford; brother, Jimmie Bell (Becky) of Carthage; nephews, Gayden and Andy Bell of Carthage and their families.The Family would like to thank the Kosciusko VA Nursing Home staff and valued caregiver Pearlie Miller for their love and kindness.There will be a visitation at First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the old Kosciusko City Cemetery on Huntington Street.Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 603 Smythe Street, Kosciusko, Mississippi 39090.For online condolences, visit www.jordanfuneralhome.com.

Colon “Hershel” Thompson, 92 of Ackerman, Ms. passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024, at the VA Nursing Home in Kosciusko, Ms. with his wife by his side. Hershel was born on July 21, 1931, in Oktibbeha County to the late James B. Thompson and Vevie Mae Edwards Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his daughter Connie Jean Thompson Dempsey, one brother James Edward, and four sisters, Mary virginia, Glenda Faye, Charlsie, and Marilyn. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Patricia “Pat” Beverly Thompson, of Ackerman, Ms. Daughter Beverly Thompson Rowan of Starkville, Ms. (3) Grandchildren, Sonya (Ashley) Anderson of West Point, Ms., Tyiece (Steven) Woodward of Oklahoma. Tony (Lisa)Berryman of Alabama. (10) Great Grandchildren and (10) Great-Great Grandchildren. (2) sisters Linda and Jean The family would like to thank the VA Nursing Home of Kosciusko, Ms. and Halcyon Hospice of Philadelphia, Ms. for the care and support that they gave Mr. Thompson during his brief time as a resident there. Larry Metzler, 74, passed away on Mon. Jan. 22, 2024, in Kosciusko, MS. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS handled arrangements. Larry was born on April 4, 1949, in Oak Ridge, TN to the late John Arthur Metzler and Edna Rae Gregory Metzler. He served his country in the United States Navy, and he enjoyed cooking, boating, scuba diving and traveling. Most of all, Larry was a wonderful people person who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his children, Heather Fulgham (John), Lauren Metzler and Brandon Metzler; sisters, Sue McIver and Pat Brown (Bill); brother, Chris Metzler (Mary) and his grandchildren, Charli Rae Fulgham, Blakely Metzler, Elbi Fulgham, Laubri Fulgham, Beckham Huggins and Kip Fulgham. Larry is also preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Metzler.

She was preceded in death by her parents David and Minnie McCrory and her first husband J T Keen.
