Muriel Jean (Goodley) Jones, 99, of West Terre Haute, passed away at Springhill Village Rehabilitation, February 27, 2024. Born in Henderson, Kentucky, on November 14, 1924, she was the daughter of Hal B. Goodley and Emma Pruitt Goodley. Muriel loved being known as our Rosie (the Riveter), as she truly was a riveter at the Republic Aviation Plant in Evansville, IN, beginning there as an 18-year-old, who caught rides from Henderson to work there. She was small in stature and prided herself in being able to rivet the metal planes, under the cockpits of the P 47 Thunderbolts, better and faster than anyone. She met her future husband, Harley, at the plant, as they were partners - with Harley bucking and her riveting the metal, they helped to produce many of the planes that our pilots flew during the Second World War. She was interviewed by the National Association of Rosies and prided herself as one of the final Rosies that remain today. Muriel was also interviewed by the Evansville Wartime Museum and loved recounting her reception and tour of the museum on her 98th birthday. Muriel also attended Beauty College in Henderson, and later used her training and skills to groom dogs that she and the family raised, and sold for twenty years, at Strike-a-Lite Kennel in rural West Terre Haute. She and Harley left Terre Haute for Seminole, FL, in 1986, where they resided for 25 years. During that time, they owned several homes, and enjoyed life and the sunshine, with “the Jones Boys”, Harley’s neighboring brothers. Muriel loved “RV-ing” and traveling with Harley to most of the mainland states, as well as Mexico, and Canada, in their Bluebird Motor Home, where she met many life-long friends while traveling. Their favorite destination was to Alaska where they made nine trips, fishing and canning salmon, which Muriel delighted in giving to family and friends. Following Harley’s passing, Muriel continued to winter in Florida near family in Cape Coral, where she devoted much of her time to the Southwest Florida Military Museum. She was happiest there at the museum talking to, and entertaining, the visiting Veterans. The museum honored her with recognition and a special Rosie exhibit. Muriel was perhaps best known in her later years, as the woman that loved to dance – anytime and anywhere - she danced. Even after her eyes and ears began to fail, the volume went up, and - she danced. She loved the musical entertainment at Honey Creek Commons Assisted Living, being loved and remembered there, as the beautiful lady that danced. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harley Jones, son Mitchell Jones, and siblings Betty Sellers, Evelyn Bauers, and Hal V. Goodley. Muriel is survived by son, Bryant Jones, grandchildren Rick Jones (Cheryl Baker) and A.J. Jones, and great grandchildren Hollie Craig (Adam) and Levi Jones (Shara Coffman); son, Tim Jones (Marsha), grandchildren Abby Noroozi (Scott) and Nathan Jones (Ronnie Padilla), great grandchildren Avery Noroozi and Lily Noroozi; son, Reuben Jones (Kiva), grandchildren Brandy Kruckenberg (Savannah) and Jeremy Jones, great grandchildren Amber McClure, Naythan McClure, and Danika Eagle. Surviving siblings are Ora Galloway, and Edna Ann Hudgions, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Special thanks to caregiver Ann Bell. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for friends and family, where there will certainly be music and dancing. Arrangements were entrusted to DeBaun Funeral Home.
