Retired USCG Charles Bartocci, 69, of Topeka, passed away on February 3, 2024, in Independence, Missouri.He was born in Orlando, Florida on January 20, 1955, the son of Pasquale and Estelle (Vincent) Bartocci. Charles served his country in the United States Coast Guard for 30 years. He was most recently a Training Specialist for Homeland Security with the Coast Guard. He enjoyed working for his country and those whom he was associated with in his many positions over the years.He enjoyed kayaking, golfing, cooking, was an artist and a loyal Royals Baseball fan.He married Jacqueline Williams on August 16, 1997, in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by a step-son, Jordan Turner and his siblings, Cathy (Joe) Beaudoin, Tommy (Sharon) Bartocci and Annette Cobb. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.A Memorial service with military honors provided by the Coast Guard will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Saturday, February 17th, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Christopher Timothy Meixueiro, known to many as Chris, passed away in Independence, Missouri at the age of 53. His life was one dedicated to the art of carpentry, where he served diligently as a member of the carpenter's union, the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Council, for many years. Chris was not only a skilled craftsman but also a patient teacher who shared his knowledge with friends and family whenever the opportunity arose.Born on August 22, 1970, in Kansas City, Missouri, Chris grew up to be a man of exceptional character. Described as having the kindest and most incredible heart, he exemplified selflessness and generosity in all aspects of his life. Always ready to offer a helping hand to those in need, Chris touched the lives of many with his compassionate nature. Apart from his professional life, Chris found joy in various hobbies and interests. He had a particular fondness for delicious food, especially relishing his mother's cooking. An avid player of games like chess and scrabble, he cherished moments spent competing with loved ones. His love for dogs was evident, especially towards his own furry companions. In his leisure time, Chris sought solace in nature through activities like fishing and canoeing. Family was everything to Chris. He treasured moments spent with his loved ones above all else, although his nieces, nephews, and brothers-in-law held a special place in his heart.Chris is preceded in passing by his father, Fausto Meixueiro; and his niece, Christina (Meixueiro) Ferguson. He is survived by his mother, Angelina Cole; and siblings, Fausto Meixueiro, Jr. of Kansas City, MO; Angela Grady (Brian) of Kansas City, MO; Teresa Crane (Robert) of Independence, MO; Ricardo "Ricky" Meixueiro of Kansas City, MO; Annette Meixueiro of Sugar Creek, MO; Robin Meixueiro of Olathe, KS; and Rebecca (Bryan) Garrett of Raymore, MO; half-sister Elizabeth Harpool of Kansas City, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Chris' family will greet guests during his visitation at Speaks Suburban Chapel on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 5-7 PM. Larry Ray Bentsen

Larry Ray Bentsen, 72, of Odessa, Missouri passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at CenterPoint Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born in Beatrice, Nebraska on September 16, 1951, to Raymond and Betty (Baker) Bentsen. Larry graduated in 1969 from Osage City High School in Osage City, KS. Larry proudly served from 1971-1974 in the United States Army as a special bandsman, driving trucks for the United States Army Field Band across the country. Following his military service, Larry attended DeVry, Wentworth, and Park Colleges. He received a Certificate in Electronics Technology, an Associate in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s in Computer Applications/Management. Larry was united in marriage on August 30, 1980, to Anita Grace (Bell Williams) Bentsen in Kansas City, Missouri. The Bentsen’s have resided on a farm outside of Odessa since 1987. It was here he spent many hours outdoors taking care of his cows, chickens, and pastures. Larry worked for Alstom in Warrensburg, Missouri as a Software Verification and Test Engineer. He was employed by Alstom, GE Transportation, and Harmon Electronics throughout the last 45 years at locations in Grain Valley and Warrensburg. He was lovingly referred to as "Larry the Legend" by family and friends. Larry recently was accepted into the Catholic faith. He was a devoted Kansas City Blades hockey and KU basketball fan. Larry had a special place in his heart for his family. Along with spending cherished time with his grandkids, Larry enjoyed reading, watching old westerns, Top Golf, bingo, reading his cattle forums, traveling back to Beatrice, and gardening. He lived well and was well loved, providing a shining example of what a husband, father, and grandfather should be. Larry is survived by his dedicated wife, Anita Bentsen; five children, Elliot (Kathryn) Bentsen, Evan (Betsy) Bentsen, Ethan Bentsen, Ellyn (Mitchell) Wilson, and Emery (Jessica) Bentsen; six grandchildren, Oliver Wilson, Adalaide Wilson, Malachi Porto, Whitley Bentsen, Alexander Bentsen, and James Bentsen; his beloved brother, David Bentsen; one brother-in-law Joe Melley; one sister-in-law, Joyce (Allen) Zimmerschied; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Along with both his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Erryn Bentsen, his beloved sister, Linda Melley and a niece LaDonna Conrad. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Due to his love for Hawaiian shirts, the family has requested visitors and coworkers wear Hawaiian shirts in honor of Larry. Burial will be held at the Odessa Cemetery following private services. Joel Robert Ross passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in Independence, Missouri at 11:28 a.m. He was only 42 years old. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death. Joel was born on December 7, 1981 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Independence, Missouri and attended Fort Osage High School. He later on attended Avila University and graduated with Magna Cum Laude. He was baptized at Our Redeemer in Kansas City, Missouri before attending Messiah Lutheran Church where he was confirmed. Joel was passionate about sports and loved to play the piano. He was very skilled at Texas Hold’em and loved to be surrounded by his friends and family. One of his favorite places was the ocean. He also loved animals and watching movies. His favorite jobs he held included working at the Animal Hospital in Blue Springs, Missouri and Marketing Sales for Royals Stadium. Joel is survived by his father, John Edward Ross; mother, Kathryn Susan (Diebold) Ross; and will forever be remembered by his siblings, Daniel Aaron Ross; and half- brother, Johnny Alan Ross. Joel was a very caring and thoughtful person inside and out. He cared deeply for the people around him. He made an impact on many lives. He will be forever missed. Until we meet again. Visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO 64055, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Stephanie was born to Marsha Griger on October 28, 1968 in Omaha, NE. Stephanie developed a passion for hard work, her family and developed a huge love of children at a very early age. Like many of us she had many chapters in her own book of life. From a food chain manager, trucking company manager, foster parent, frequent traveler and mover to all over the country, child development specialist and ultimately a loving daughter, sister, niece, mother and grandmother. Many lovingly called her “Big Mama,” as when you were around she was going to parent you. Her child or not! Stephanie was passionate about sharing the love of our Lord with others. A loyal servant of God, Stephanie was dedicated to playing worship music, loving and feeding her friends and family, and building community wherever she went. Now that Stephanie has passed into the arms of our Lord, her physical life on earth is over but it is the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her. She is survived by her mother Marsha Griger (Carlson) her aunt and partner, Bobbye Carlson & Jerry VanSant, Sister Vicki Smith and family, Michaella Smith, Briana Black, Jerica Collier and 10 great nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, March 1 at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home in Independence, with visitation at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 p.m. Sylvia was born July 19, 1943, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Chester W. and Elsie (Lew) Rice. She was an avid animal lover, especially dogs and cats. During her life, Sylvia worked at numerous animal shelters. She loved going out to eat and shopping, and cherished spending time with her family at Christmas time. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Pam Staats (Randy); son, Chris Spence (Jan); daughter, Wendy Laughter; five grandchildren: Kyle, Kirstie, Hailey, Lainey, and Megan; and three great-grandchildren: Lilly, Shayden, and James. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 35 years, John McConnell.
