Mary E. Edwards, 83, of Deltaville, Virginia passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023. She was retired from Colonial Heights Police Department as the records and property clerk with sixteen years of service. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church, Deltaville and was predeceased by a son, William F. Edwards, III. Survived by her husband, William F. Edwards, Jr. ; a brother, Donald L. Millis; sisters, Jean Janeka, Anne Atkinson and Sherry Telle. All services will be private. Arrangements by Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda.

Barbara J. Wright, 82, of Deltaville, passed away on November 4th, 2023. Mrs. Wright was born May 13, 1941, the daughter of the late Frank and Marie Haywood. She was the wife of the late William Franklin Wright. During her working career, Barbara was a waitress at Taylor's Restaurant in Deltaville for 37 1/2 years. She was the heart of her family, a devoted sister, a wonderful mother and grandmother and was affectionately known as "Little Nannie" by her grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed making silk floral arrangements, jewelry and Christmas decorations. Barbara enjoyed the holidays spent with family and was famous for her candied yams. Mrs. Wright is survived by her two daughters, Judith M. Wright and Janet W. Seay; grandchildren, Amber Hatton (James) and Haley Anderson (Jackson); great grandchildren, Kayla, Jacob and Peyton Hatton; sister, Janice Florence; her brothers, Frank and Harry Haywood and her special "fur baby" Rosie. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her three brothers, Donnie, Larry and Clarence Haywood. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Harrow Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p. m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. DELTAVILLE - Dr. Edwin Warren Ruark, Ph. D. , passed away on September 21, 2023 at his home surrounded by the love of family after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 82. Edwin was born April 11, 1941 in Deltaville, Virginia. He attended Middlesex County Public Schools and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from Lynchburg College in 1963, and his Masters of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Biochemistry and Nutrition from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1966 and 1970 respectively. He did post graduate studies at the Medical College of Virginia in Clinical Pharmacology. After graduation, Edwin became the Director of Physicians Clinical Laboratory in Richmond, Virginia. The business was sold in 1978 and he moved back to his hometown to open Ruark & Associates Ltd. , a real estate company that he still operated until his death. Ed was a past member of the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors, Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, a licensed boat captain, a lifelong member of Donovan Masonic Lodge #75, affiliate member of West Point Masonic Lodge #238, a Royal Arch Mason Urbanna Chapter #59 and Penn Neck Commandery #33. He was an avid hunter; he loved each and every dog he ever had, and was a great fisherman. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; Edwin Rufus and Mary Bristow Ruark, and his beloved brother; Rufus H. Ruark, Sr. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 50 years, Suzanne Crump Ruark and their children; Lisa Donant, Paul Seitz (Tracy), and Gretchen Zwerner; five grandchildren, Shelby Jahnke (Michael), Rachel Pearson (Bryce), Jacob Seitz (Julianne), Brooking Lester, and Hunter Zwerner; four great-grandchildren, Caroline Austin Jahnke, Nora Grace Pearson, Ryker Edwin Pearson and Bayton Leigh Seitz; sister-in-law, Diane S. Ruark and extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p. m. on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Zoar Baptist Church, Deltaville, Virginia followed by a Masonic Service. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Zoar Baptist Church, Deltaville, Virginia at 2 p. m. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. James "Jim" McKinley Englar, age 76, of Deltaville passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Jim served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1966-1969. He then served on missions as a vice commander in the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 62 for over 10 years. Responsible for vessel examinations, training crews and providing support for public events, Jim served his country proudly. Jim retired from Howard County Government and has worked at Fishing Bay Marina in Deltaville for the last 11 years. Loving everything about the water, Jim spent his days on the water doing what he loved, boating, fishing, and crabbing. Preceded in death by his parents Theodore McKinley and Jessie Englar (nee Clark), brother Teddy Clark Englar, and his beloved dog of 14 years JJ. Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Sondra Groft-Englar; son James Bates M. Englar, daughter Erin Schafer and her husband Louie Schafer; 2 granddaughters, Lilyana Victory and Alayna Marie; grandson Maverick Lewis; 2 sisters, Sissy and Bonnie; mother of his children and dear friend Pam Grue; new puppy, Maverick James; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held in Maryland with a date to be determined. Jackie Lee Schultz, 79, of Deltaville, VA, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023, in her home, with her daughters by her side. She was born in 1943, in Pitt County, North Carolina to Charlie Lee and Edna Louise (Carson) Lee, who preceded her in death. Jackie was born at home, the fifth child of seven. She grew up on a small farm and attended Aurelian Springs School in rural Halifax County, North Carolina. Jackie graduated from High School in 1961. In 1962, Jackie met and married Gene Schultz. They were married 39 years and had three daughters, Susan, Lynne and Farrah. Gene preceded Jackie in death in 2001. Mrs. Shultz was a business owner in Gloucester, VA, operating Sutton's Restaurant from 1996 to 2004. She also worked for Middlesex County Public Schools as a Cafeteria manager for many years. Travel was one of Jackie's favorite things, especially exploring with her sisters, the "Golden Girls". They travelled together across the country for many years, often playing Phase 10 or Dominos. Jackie was a fantastic and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She supported her kid's and grandkid's activities and adventures. She traveled near and far to basketball games, football games and numerous horse shows. Jackie was always there shouting and cheering on her kids. She was a devout member of the Seventh-day Adventist church for many years. Jackie is survived by her children; Susan Wade, Farrah Lee Owen, Lynne Smith (DJ); grandchildren; RJ, Ali and Cole; great grandchild, Gunner; one sister, Peggy Hedgepeth; two brothers, Charles Lee (Brenda) and Larry Lee; best friend, Barbara West and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, JW Lee; her sisters, Ellen and Edna Earle and her son in-law, Kevin Wade. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Deltaville Maritime Museum, 287 Jackson Creek Road, Deltaville, VA 23043. A reception will follow on site.
