MARY SUE DANIELSNORTON, VA - Mary Sue Daniels, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a daughter of the late James Houston (Jim) Vaughn and Mary Margaret Gardner Vaughn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Daniels, a daughter, Martha Hawk and a sister Jimmie Jenkins. Mary Sue was a member of Norton Christian Church. She is survived by two daughters, Denise Hickman of Norton, Va. and Jeannine Vires and her husband Dan of Norton, Va. ; a son, Dennis Hawk and his wife Kim of St. Paul, Va. ; three grandsons, Daniel, Ryan and Jeremy; a cousin, Jill Alderman; a special friend, Sandy Earls; and a host of other family, friends and furbabies. A special thank you to Chelsea with Caris Hospice for the loving care given to our mother. "Norton, Virginia Joseph Curtis Herron Sr, age 67, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 15, 2023. He was born in Appalachia hospital June 1, 1955. He had a wonderful childhood, raised by a loving mother and grandmother. Joseph started working for Joe Bolinsky at his Gulf station when he was 17 and was often called Joe 2. Mr. Bolinsky was an inspiration to him for the rest of his life. At 18, he started underground for Westmoreland Coal Company, Bullitt Mine, then transferred to Virginia Birmingham Bolt Co. , working there for about 7 years. Joe then had the opportunity to start working for Southern Ohio Coal Company in Meigs County Ohio, where he worked for the next 7 years. He then returned to Virginia in 1980 and worked for Paramount Coal Company Deep Mine 1 until 1988, which was the end of his career in the mines due to 2 mining accidents resulting in the removal of 4 discs. Once he recovered, he went to M. E. C. C. and Virginia Intermont and enjoyed college life. Joe substituted a year at Powell Valley and other Lonesome Pine schools where he found teaching was not for him. After that, he went into auxiliary police work in 1992 and later joined the police force, retiring in 2003. He could often be heard saying he accomplished everything he set out to do in his life and was very proud of that fact. Joe was a member of Stevens Church of God in Wise and loved his church family. The most important life changing event in his life was when he accepted our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, Joe went away from the Lord for a time, however he returned to the altar where Jesus welcomed him back with open arms. Today and forevermore, Joe walks in paradise. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Addie Herron, his beloved grandmother Mattie Hobbs, (his wife of 41 years) Debra Lynn, his brother Robbie and cousins Curt and Donna, Connie Lynn Blaylock, and her infant child as well as many cherished aunts and uncles. Surviving are his wife Barbara (his bestest friend) as he always said, and his children Chad, Eddie, Greg, Joe Jr. , and Misty as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren who he loved and was so proud of! Joe\u0027s sister Teresa and brother Lonnie as well as 2 aunts and an uncle. Auntie Wanda (91) always held a special piece of Joe\u0027s heart and his undying respect. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Holding Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted following in the funeral home's chapel with Pastor Shawn Allen officiating. He will be laid to rest in Glencoe Cemetery with a private family gathering. "ST. PAUL, VIRGINIA - Ruby Jurlene Sifford, 80, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Virginia. She was born in Dickenson County, Virginia, the daughter of the late John Hop and Mable Mae McCoy. Ruby was a member of High Tower Ministry Church in Castlewood, Virginia. She enjoyed going to church, spending time with her family, and loved to eat. Her main love was Jesus and her children and grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by three sisters, Juanita McCoy, Bolina McCoy, and Biddy Ramey; and two brothers, Carson McCoy and Glenn McCoy. She is survived by her husband, Curtis C. Brickey; one daughter, Dana Trent and husband, Jeff of Coeburn, Virginia; three sons, Tony Lee Sifford and wife, Carolyn of Dungannon, Virginia, Danny Sifford and wife, Linda of Lebanon, Virginia, and David Sifford and Jerilee Taylor of Dante, Virginia; one brother, Clyde McCoy and wife, Denise of Nora, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Ruby Jurlene Sifford will be conducted at 8:00 p. m. , Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia, with Pastor Ernie Addington officiating. Committal Services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a. m. , Friday, October 13, 2023, at the McCoy Family Cemetery in the Poker Flats section in Nora, Virginia. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery, leaving at 10:00 a. m. , Friday. Pallbearers will be the sons and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff Sifford and Jeff Trent. JOSHUA GARDNERWISE, VA - Joshua "Josh" Ulysses Grant Gardner, 43, went home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2023. Josh was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia on June 8, 1980. He was a 1999 graduate of John I. Burton High School. Proudly serving his country, Josh was a veteran of the United States Army. Josh served two tours in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan. Josh had a love for art and he was a self-taught musician. He was honored to be selected to be a member of the distinguished "General's Band" during his time in the army, where he played the guitar. Josh was the father to his deceased son, Leo, whom he loved and adored. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Fulks, maternal great grandmother, Virginia Fulks and his very special maternal great grandfather, Robert Fulks, whom he loved dearly and looked up to as a father figure. Josh is survived by his mother, Lecia Boivin, brother, Chris, sister, Jessica, niece, Chloe, nephews, Peyton and Noah, maternal grandmother, Faye Fultz, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also, left to cherish his memory are numerous friends, whom he considered family, and a very special friend and maternal grandmother to Leo, Edie Nash, whom he loved very much and considered a second mother.
