Pensacola, FL
"Mary Vivian Voliva, born on April 16, 1924 in Norfolk, Virginia, and longtime resident of Pensacola, Florida passed away on September 9, 2023, at the age of 99 and a half. Vivian was a child of the 1920s and lived through the Depression. She graduated from Granby High School in 1941 in Norfolk, VA. She completed her nurses training and received her nursing degree from Norfolk General Hospital in June 1945. In 1949, she married Commander Kenneth J. Cory, and was a United States Navy wife for more than 21 years during war and peacetime, until her husband's retirement in 1970. Vivian, Ken, and their four children had many wonderful duty stations, such as Japan, Bermuda, England, and Pensacola, Florida. Besides caring for her family, which was her highest priority, she was very involved in many community and social organizations wherever they were stationed. When they retired in Pensacola, she volunteered for nearly 25 years with the Red Cross, participated in several social organizations associated with the Navy, Fiesta, and Mardi Gras, and participated in monthly Bunko games with her closest friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Michael (Jan), Dennis, Karen (Greg) Stewart, and Sharon (Bob) Winter; four grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and special friend and caregiver, Brenda Truken who was also an important part of her life. She was a supportive Navy wife and loving mother, grandmother, and GiGi. She embodied the values and strengths of the Greatest Generation, and will be dearly missed by her family. Thank you to all of her doctors and their staff, and VITAS Healthcare for the great care they provided Vivian as she dealt with the challenges of "growing old gracefully". Visitation and Rosary will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South (100 Beverly Parkway, Pensacola, Florida 32505) on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p. m. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 a. m. at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Tuesday, September 19, 2023 (Monsignor Michael Reed celebrant). Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Donations may be made to Pensacola Naval Museum, Pensacola Catholic High School, and/or the Burse Club (for the seminarian education), Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee (Office of Vocations, 11 North B Street, Pensacola, FL 32503).
