MARY 'SUE' CONWAY MUSCATINE, Iowa - Mary Sue Conway, 78, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Lutheran Living Senior Campus. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at St. Mathias Church. Rosary will be held at 10:00 a. m. , at the church. Sue was born on September 18, 1945, in Grand Island, Nebraska, the daughter of Merrill Andrew and Alice Barbara O'Connor Nelson. Sue worked for HON as a Human Resource Generalist from 1978 until retiring in 2006. Sue was a member of Ss. Mary Mathias Parish and enjoyed movies, reading, the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Sue is survived by her three children, Michaela Curry and husband, Don, Kelly Irwin and husband, Matt, and Sean Conway and wife, Josephine, all of Muscatine; six grandchildren, Rachel Nieland and husband, Eric, Dylan Curry, Noah Irwin, Madelyn Irwin, Cassidy Conway, and Katelyn Bunn; and four great grandchildren, Maryn, Gretchen, and Waylin Nieland, and Kaine Irwin. She is preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Terry Nelson.

Patsy Lee Schmeiser, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, passed through the pearly gates to Heaven peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at SE Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 2:00 p. m. - 6:00 p. m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Winfield. Patsy Lee Thompson was born on December 14, 1931, in Burlington, Iowa, the 11th child of 14 to Grover C. and Catherine B. (Burrows) Thompson. She was a graduate of Burlington High School. On August 1, 1948, Patsy was united in marriage to Myron R. Schmeiser at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. While living in Burlington, she worked at JC Penney's until 1950, then moved to the farm she and her husband purchased south of Winfield where she helped farm and raise 5 children. Patsy worked in Mt. Pleasant at Emerson Electric, Purchasing Department at Henry County Hospital for 27 years, Henry County Health Center Gift Shop volunteer and Lori's Loft. She also was a B. P. W. volunteer at Old Threshers Reunion. Patsy was a member of the Winfield United Methodist Church, where she dearly loved teaching Sunday School. She enjoyed sewing, cooking for others, reading, and crafting, but most of all, she loved to spend time with her family creating memories. In 2016, Patsy moved to Van Vorhies where she received loving and special care. Patsy will be deeply missed by her children, Mike (Shirley) Schmeiser of Atkins, Nancy Schmeiser of Mt. Pleasant, David Schmeiser of Kearns, Utah, Linda Schmeiser of Salt Lake City, Utah and Kim (David) Schmeiser-Akers of Belgrade/Yellowstone, Montana; seven grandchildren, Angela (Brian) West of Indianola, Luci Schmeiser of Cedar Rapids, Lori Schmeiser of Cedar Rapids, Joshua (Laura) Schmeiser of Salt Lake City, Utah, Amanda Schmeiser of Sterling, Utah, Michaela Akers of Belgrade, Montana and Bryce Akers of Belgrade, Montana; five great grandchildren, Ryanna West of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Andrew (Maddie) West of Berwik, Iowa, Harrison West of Indianola, Dominic West of Indianola and Finn Schmeiser of Salt Lake City, Utah; three sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Snowden, Patty Curtis and Helen Schmeiser all of Burlington and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States. He was very loyal and free spirited with a heart of gold. Sam was always looking for his next great outdoor adventure to spend with his family and friends. Delpha Blint, 93, passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 at the Henry County Health Center. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 5:00 p. m. until 7:00 p. m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Mediapolis. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a. m. on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the funeral home. The family requests that those attending wear blue in honor of Delpha's favorite color. Burial will immediately follow the service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. A memorial has been established for the family in Delpha's memory. Online condolences may be left at www. sandhfuneralservice. com. Delpha Mae Young was born December 4, 1929 at R. R. Mediapolis, a few miles from Oakville, Iowa, the daughter of Edward William and Mary Alma (Ashby) Young. She attended 12 years at Oakville Consolidated School, graduating in spring of 1947. That fall, she entered Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, Iowa and graduated in the fall of 1950. On October 15, 1950, Delpha married Dale Addison Kirkpatrick in Cedar Rapids. They had three children: Deborah, Douglas and Diana. She continued to work at Mercy Hospital until 1953 when she and her husband bought and operated a Long-Term Facility in Burlington. In 1960, she and her family moved to Ft. Myers, Florida where Delpha was employed at Lee Memorial Hospital as the evening supervisor for the Med/Surg Department. She then continued in long-term nursing as Director of Nursing until returning to Iowa to be a Director of Nursing in Burlington. She continued working in long-term, and also in rehab and at a mental health hospital until retiring in 1991. In 1997, she married Dean Blint and eventually returned to the Oakville area to live on an acreage. After some years of retirement, she began working as a quality improvement consultant in several long-term care facilities around Southeastern Iowa. She sold the acreage in 2007 and moved to Mt. Pleasant to be close to her children and retired again in 2009. Delpha will be missed by her children Douglas Allen (Gail) Kirkpatrick and Diana Marie Kirkpatrick (Walter) Moyle; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. While living in the Oakville area, Delpha, along with her her husband, daughter and granddaughter, owned and operated the Rollermania Skating Rink at the former Oakville School Gymnasium. Later, she and her husband owned and operated the bar/restaurant at Oakville until it succumbed to the flood waters in 2008. Delpha always enjoyed working with the youth, especially through M. Y. F. Youth Group at a church in Florida and at the skating rink. She also enjoyed caring for the elderly over many years. She loved gardening, crafting and flowers, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. In Memoriam: Chester William McKillip (9/19/1932 - 11/26/2023) Chester William McKillip, a man of unwavering faith, unyielding dedication, and endless storytelling, left this world on November 26, 2023. Born to John and Helena McKillip on September 19, 1932, in Muscatine, Iowa, Chester's (Chet's) life was a testament to resilience, service, and familial devotion. Chet's journey began in the embrace of a large and loving family. Born amidst the Great Depression, he learned the values of hard work and frugalness from his parents and siblings. Chet's siblings, Velma, Anna, Esther, Clifford, Bernice, Clarence, John, and Wilbur, paved the way for a life rooted in strong family ties and a deep passion for genealogy. At the tender age of 19, Chet was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country with distinction during the Korean War. Displaying exceptional bravery, he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and found himself stationed on the front lines as the war drew to a close. His service was marked by a profound sense of duty and sacrifice. Following his military tenure, Chet started a career as an engineer with Stanley Consultants in 1954. Dedicated to his work, he achieved professional excellence and retired in 1989, leaving a legacy of commitment and competence. Retirement marked the beginning of a new chapter for Chet as he transitioned into full-time farming, a pursuit that reflected his innate connection to the land. A self-educated farmer, Chet owned several farms in the Muscatine County area. His agricultural endeavors were a testament to his tenacity and passion for nurturing the earth. Chet's commitment to farming was not merely a profession but a way of life, exemplifying his deep respect for the land and its bounty. Chet's spiritual compass led him to Calvary Church, where he felt connection to the community. A devout Christian, he attended services whenever possible, finding strength and inspiration in his faith. Throughout his life, Chet found love and companionship in three marriages. His first union with Marcella Noret blessed them with a child, Lori, followed by a marriage to Joy Viner, where he adopted her two children, Scott and Natalie. In his final and enduring marriage to Judy Smith, Chet found a lifelong partner with whom to shared the company of two her to sons, Barry and Jamie, along with the joys and challenges of the golden years. Chester McKillip was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helena, his first wife Marcella, and second wife Joy. He also joined his siblings Velma, Anna, Esther, Clifford, Bernice, Clarence, John, and Wilbur in eternal rest. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy, and his children Lori Petrik, Scott McKillip, Natalie Harden, two stepsons Barry Noret, Jamie Noret, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chester's legacy extends beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of countless nephews and nieces who were inspired by his wisdom and kindness. Richard was born on August 15, 1932, in Muscatine, the son of Gerald and Anna Hammann Metzger. He married C. Edith Byrd, she preceded him in death on December 7, 1979. He later married Shirley Van Auken, she preceded him in death on September 26, 2023. At a young age, Richard helped in the Muscatine Broom Shop factory that was owned by his grandfather and later by his father. Richard started REMCO, where he dealt in electronics, fixed them up, and resold them. He also worked for Thatcher Plastics for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Free Methodist Church in Columbus City. Richard enjoyed working on computers and could fix anything. He was a loving father and grandfather and would do anything for his family. He was an avid gardener and had a great sense of humor. Richard is survived by three children, Richard 'Rick' (Sherry) Metzger, Judy Metzger, and Karen (Mark) Bixby, all of Muscatine; Shirley's children, Peggy (Jon) Hoback of Columbus Junction, and Sheila (Mark) Lukins of Washington; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. She went on to attend Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. She married Robert Muller on November 21, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manchester. She worked as a hairdresser in Independence before the couple moved to Monticello. She continued her beauty business in Monticello and also worked as an aide at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was always on hand to be Bob's carpenter assistant. She enjoyed the time spent with her all her family at large family gatherings to the times spent with her immediate family and all the laughter that came with it. Laila was a board member for Bir-Zeit Union University, founder and board member of The Child Society Center in Ramallah, the highest-ranking female scout in the country of Palestine, an active political leader in the Palestine Peoples Party, and a board member of the Orthodox club in Ramallah. Laila dedicated her life to justice and to the community. She advocated for women's rights and was known for her kindness and her strength. She loved shopping, traveling, writing, and was a foodie. Most importantly, she loved her daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Loureen Dabeet (Sayej) a Palestinian Diplomat at the United Nations, New York; her mother, Aida Dabeet of Muscatine; and four siblings, Elias Dabeet of Muscatine, John Dabeet and wife, Abeer, of Muscatine, Jalal Dabeet and wife, Faten, of Palestine, and Anestas Dabeet and husband, Yacoub, of Muscatine. Betty was born on November 22, 1935, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Stephen and Helen Woehrle Garlock. She married Harold Jerry Olsen, they later divorced. She then met her longtime companion, Bert Cozad. Betty and her sisters were members of the Durant American Legion Auxiliary, where they actively volunteered helping veterans and the VA. She worked as the assistant to Dr. Campbell for several years and enjoyed working in the healthcare field. Later went on to help run Cozad Auto Sales with husband, Bert. Betty worked at the Muscatine Mall in its prime keeping it clean and its plants happy. Betty was lovingly named Merr by her eldest granddaughter and went on to be called Merr by just about everyone. She loved day trips with her sisters, their group was lovingly known as the "Aunt Hill". Betty enjoyed solitaire, crossword puzzles, and auctions. She enjoyed the outdoors, going camping and spending the weekend at the cabin on the Cedar. She was a den mother while her boys were in the Boy Scouts and made her family famous goulash. Betty loved her family and will be missed dearly. Betty is survived by her son, Steven Olsen; grandchildren, Stephanie Dietrich (Nick), Maddison Olsen, and Amy Olsen; great grandchildren, Kinley and Alan; and sisters, Barb Wendt, Mary Golinghorst (Richard), and Linda Garlock.
