Erie, PA
Mary Alice, the youngest of three children made her transition on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Born on October 28, 1929, in Erie, to the late Sidney and Estell Evans, Mary had, from her early years gained a certain independence and confidence which would serve her throughout life. Growing up she learned to respect and appreciate the gifts and fortune life would bring. In particular, she attributed her gifts and fortune to her relationship with the Lord and spoke often and highly of how good God was to her. Mary attended Lawrence Park High School in Erie, where she received her high school diploma in 1947. After graduating from high school, Mary pursued a career in music which landed her jobs at local night clubs. Mary gave birth to six sons and after the death of her sister, she gained a bonus son, Theodore King. After raising her children to maturity, she relocated to California in 1975 to pursue her career in music. Known for her gifted vocals, her extraordinary mastery of the piano and keyboard, she was able to sharpen her capabilities to gain a career that would enable her to be a sought-after celebrity talent all over the world. In 1982, she left California and moved to Hawaii where she continued her music career. While benefitting from the career opportunities, Mary spent time in Japan working as a Jazz Pianist and Vocalist. After having a successful career on the road, in 1992, Mary made her way back to her hometown where she continued to perform. Continuing with her great repertoire of concerts locally, she endeavored to establish a community music school, which has been in existence over the past 15 years at the local JFK Community Center, just blocks from where she raised her children. Mary was noted for saying, "music is the job I'm supposed to do". Although she was never certain of a career in music, God would have it otherwise. He blessed her abundantly with opportunities time and time again. One of the highlights of her career was in the 70's when she had the opportunity to perform with Bob Hope - in Erie. With an easy outgoing personality, not afraid to speak her mind, Mary pursued her career with fervor. Accompanied by her devoted husband, James, she traveled the world expressing her music and bringing light to every room she walked in. The motto she lived by, "You Only Live Once, So Live Your Life", Mary clearly expressed her passion and artistry for playing the piano and performing. She also had a passion for reading books, solving puzzles, and watching football with her husband, James. Mary was preceded in death by her mother who passed away when she was the tender age of 12.
