Edwana May Barbara Remington

"Edwana “Eddie” May (Smith) Remington, passed away January 28, 2024, at home surrounded by her family and friends. Edwana was born September 10, 1952, the third of four children born to George and Della (Ortega) Smith. Her catholic baptismal name was Edwana May Barbara Smith given to her by her aunt. Although her family lived in Solvang, California, she was born in Lompoc, California. She grew up living on the beach and working the fields with her family. She met Tom Remington while working the tomato fields in California. They were married February 9, 1974. They raised two boys while traveling the United States. Colorado, Louisiana, Ohio and Montana were a few of the states they lived in. Versailles, Missouri finally became their home. Edwana not only worked in the fields, she also worked making surfboards. After raising her boys, she worked at Casey’s and Fasco. Edwana was a member of the First Baptist Church although she did enjoy attending the Second Baptist Church. She volunteered and served on the board for Food For Morgan County for over fourteen years. She also volunteered at the Morgan County Museum for several years. During the holidays, she could be found faithfully ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Walmart. In the summer, she would be at the Versailles City Pool every day. She was even known as the pool “mascot”. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and macrame. She loved the outdoors, beaches, sunshine and swimming. In her younger days, she was known as a, “surfer chic” and a, “hippy flower girl”. She is survived by her sons, Chris Smith and wife Wendy of Versailles, Missouri and Thomas Remington, Jr. and wife Leanna of Stover, Missouri; brother, Louis Odele Smith of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Courtney (Kenneth) Jensen, Aidan (Gracee) Jones, Gage (Angelique) Mayhew, Eli (Elizabeth) Jones, Paige (Chris) Donelson and Tristian Mayhew; ten great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters, Patricia Ann Smith and Sally George Smith and a nephew, Kenneth. She was a smiling face loved by so many and will be deeply missed. She was always there to help anyone in need. She especially loved her family and enjoyed the time she spent with them. A celebration of Edwana’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 5th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Robert Ross officiating. Graveside services and inurnment will follow in the Versailles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Morgan County Against Cancer, Food For Morgan County or the Morgan County Historical Society. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles."

Wesley Martin Mathis

Wesley Martin Mathis passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Good Shepherd Adult Care Center, in Versailles, Mo. He had reached the age of 89. On March 16, 1956 he was united in marriage to Barbara Hughes. Barbara survives of Jefferson City. "Wes" was born at Redbird, Mo, Gasconade County, to Martin and Marie Emelia Scheel. He was baptized as a child in the Waverly M.E. church and was a born-again Christian. Wes was a longtime member of the Army National Guard. Above everything else, he loved his family and wife Barbara Jean Hughes. He provided so well for them as an underground coal miner, a vehicle mechanic, then as a supervisor for the General Motors car plant. He and his wife owned and operated the Park Lane Motel in Higginsville until Wes’s retirement. Wes and Barb retired to his boyhood farm in Redbird where they raised cattle and resided there for 23 years. They moved into the town of Bland, Mo. In Bland he had a wood-working shop where he made, by hand, many beautiful articles which included over 500 hand-made canes and walking sticks for family and friends. Wes was known for his generosity and was always helping and giving to those who needed him. He was kind and loving to all and will be greatly missed. "Donita R. Lake, age 65, of Barnett, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born October 9, 1958, in Sarasota, Florida, the daughter of Jay and Susie (Miller) Yoder. On March 19, 1988, at the Bethel Mennonite Church, she was united in marriage to her surviving husband, Mark Lake. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and watching her favorite television shows. Most of all, she loved her family and spending time with them outdoors. Donita was a member of the Bethel Fellowship Church. In addition to her husband, Mark, she is survived by her sons, Brice Lake and wife Courtney of Barnett, Missouri and Charles Lake and fiancée Brandi Stone of Jefferson City, Missouri; grandchildren, Bailey Lake and Colby Lake; her parents, Jay and Susie Yoder of Versailles, Missouri; brothers, Terry Yoder and wife Iris of Greenwood, Missouri, Steve Yoder and wife Dee of Versailles, Missouri and Jason Yoder of Versailles, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rick Yoder, a niece, Abigail Yoder and a nephew, J.J. Yoder. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 7th, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. A private family graveside service and interment will be held in the Yoder Family Cemetery in Versailles. "Roger Alfred Forck, age 71, of Gravois Mills, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles, Missouri. He was born March 26, 1952, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a son of Alfred B. and Rayma B. (Vanloo) Forck. Roger lived most of his adult life in Kansas. He moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in the spring of 2014, where he was the former owner of Hop and Go on Cup Tree Road north of Laurie, MO. He enjoyed motorcycles, riding for charity events and as an honor guard for fallen friends and veterans. His other love was horses. He owned several during his lifetime and worked on a horse ranch in Texas as a young adult and belonged to a trail riding group in Kansas. He worked until retirement as a machinist at Tension Envelope Company in Kansas City and was also an elected union representative to the Graphic Arts Union. He liked to fish and hunt and rebuild motorcycles. Survivors include a son, Brian Forck of Kansas City, Kansas; a friend, Marilyn Brenneman of the home in Gravois Mills, Missouri; his siblings, Joyce Grosko of Kansas City, Kansas, Daniel J. Forck of Hillsdale, Kansas, Stanley R. Forck of Hillsdale, Kansas and Laurie Jane Weyers of Overland Park, Kansas and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, Naomi Forck. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to The Parkinson’s Foundation. Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles."

She was born March 11, 1972, in Lancaster, PA, the daughter of Amos and Ada (Martin) Zimmerman. She was united in marriage in Barnett, MO, on February 22, 1996, to Abel N. Leinbach, who survives in the home. Along with her husband, Esther is survived by her mother, Ada (Daniel) Zimmerman of Barnett, MO; 4 sons, Lawrence Z. (Nancy) Leinbach, Delbert Z. Leinbach, Davis Z. Leinbach and Josiah Amos Leinbach all of Versailles, MO; 3 daughters, Mary Beth (Brendon) Zimmerman of Versailles, MO, Melissa Z. (Kenton) Martin of Barnett, MO and Katie Marie Leinbach of Versailles; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Elvin (Lovina) Zimmerman of Spencer, TN, Curvin (Lowella) Zimmerman of Barnett, MO; 4 sisters, Emma (Alvin) Weaver of Barnett, MO, Lena (Edwin) Zimmerman of Versailles, MO, Ada Mae (John David) Shirk of Barnett, MO and Mabel (Irvin, Jr. ) Martin of Versailles, MO; Earl (Christina) Leinbach of Barnett, MO, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Survivors include his two daughters, Michelle Hendricks (Tommy Darrah) of Sedalia, Missouri and Megan Davis of Huntington New York; five grandchildren, Ambur Hendricks of Columbia Missouri, Damien Hendricks (Destiney) of Sedalia, Missouri, Steven Sarcona of Huntington, New York, Jenna Sarcona of New York, New York and Kayla Sarcona of Oneonta, New York; two great-grandchildren, Edwurd Wissman and Braxton Hendricks; a sister, Donna Sue Oehlert (Tony) of Bakersfield, California and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Rev. Howard Garland Tadlock, Laverne Dallene Hood, Max Eugene Tadlock and Denzil Dean Tadlock. Douglas L. Honn, age 88, of Warsaw, Missouri passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the Good Shepard Care Center in Versailles, Missouri. He was born on March 21, 1935 in Ottawa, Kansas the son of George and Cecil Honn. Doug grew up in Richmond, Missouri and graduated from Richmond High School in 1954. The day after his graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years and two additional years in the Naval Reserves. He also served thirteen years in the Air National Guard. Doug was employed for TWA as a lead inspector in Kansas City. He spent one year in Saudi Arabia at the Kings Airport and one year for Value Jet in Atlanta. In his retirement he delivered boats for the Pro's Choice Marine all over the country. Doug was united in marriage to Dorothy Layson on February 14, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri. Unto this union three children were born; Cheryl Miller (Merv) of Independence, Missouri, Doug Honn II (Nancy) of Cameron, Missouri and Leo Honn of Freeman, South Dakota. Doug was a Christian man and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Warsaw, serving on the financial committee, Awanas, as an usher and helped in various other capacities as needed. He is survived by his wife, three children, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held by the family at a later date.
