Martha Jane Stanley, a lifelong resident of Logan County, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2019, surrounded by her family in the comfort and peace of her home in Jefferson Township near Bellefontaine. Martha was born on November 21, 1926 in Urbana, the first child of Jay B. Snyder and Helen Opal (Holmes) Snyder. She married her high school sweetheart, Philip R. Stanley, in 1947. Their marriage spanned over 50 years until Phil preceded her in death in 2004. Martha was also preceded in death by her parents and younger brother James (Ami) Snyder. A graduate of West Liberty High School, Martha worked briefly in the United States Post Office in West Liberty until she and Phil began a long and successful career in farming. In the 1970's they also owned and operated S&K Farm Supply, a dairy farm equipment business where Martha worked as the office manager until her retirement. Martha is survived by her children Steven (Lu Ann) Stanley of Oakwood, Ohio; Douglas Stanley of Eugene, Oregon; and Jill Stanley of Cleveland. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alexander (Rebecca) Stanley of Madison, Wisconsin; Joseph Stanley of Midland, Texas; Nicholas Stanley of Cincinnati; Samuel Stanley of Cleveland Heights; and Emma Stanley of Columbus; and by her younger sister, Suzanne (Karl) Hostetler of West Liberty and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was a member of the Walnut Grove United Methodist Church for over 65 years. She was also a member of the Rhoda Circle, the Monday Afternoon Literary Club of West Liberty, and the Walnut Grove United Methodist Women. She volunteered for 22 years as an active member of the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild. Visitation will take place Friday, April 26, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main Street, Bellefontaine. Pastor David Moore will officiate a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Huntsville Cemetery. Pallbearers are Alexander Stanley, Joseph Stanley, Nicholas Stanley, Samuel Stanley, Jeffery Hostetler, Christopher Hostetler, and Angelo Bernard (honorary).
