Ray Gene Cochran, 60, from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away unexpectedly on Dec 2, 2023. Born on November 13, 1963, Ray spent his early years in Tahlequah, OK where he was surrounded by many friends and family. He eventually moved to the Houston, Tx area where he met and married his late wife Debbie in November, 1992. They moved back to Claremore, Oklahoma in 2004 to be closer to family and enjoy life in a smaller town. He was a proud father to NaTosha Schlueter (Shane) of McAlester, OK, Courtney Baker (Justin) of Haslet, TX, Rachel Stockton (Daniel) of Fort Worth, and Ryan Cochran of Claremore, OK. He loved being a Papa to Jolee, Ellie, Kyle, Claire, Wesley, and Timmy and was looking forward to becoming a great-Grandpa. Ray was a family man. He was proud of his children and would regularly brag about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. He was a hands-on dad that worked on many science projects, fixed up vehicles, and would send reminders to his adult children to check air pressure in tires and oil levels before taking a long drive. He enjoyed being on the wrestling court, football sidelines, or videoing a halftime band or color guard performance while his children were growing up, and was proud to see them grow into adults with their own families. He enjoyed being a Papa. He would travel to see dance performances, build legos, and let his grandkids climb up in his lap even though it may have been painful! Ray was always there to lend a hand, and enjoyed spending time with his dad Raymond and cousins in Claremore. You could often find him at the Hard Rock casino listening to live music, playing slots, or blackjack. Throughout his life, Ray pursued a variety of hobbies, including racing RC cars, fishing, hunting, and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed watching movies and had an extensive music collection. Ray believed in living life to its fullest and embraced every opportunity for adventure. One of his recent highlights was a motorcycle trip to Sturgis earlier this year, where he reveled in the freedom of the open road and the camaraderie of fellow riders. Ray made friends easily wherever he went, and left behind a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He believed in spreading kindness and was always there to rally to help those less fortunate. Ray was known for his ability to problem solve. By trade, he was an equipment engineer who was employed by ONEOK. He spent the early part of his career as a machinist and over time worked to oversee safety operations. He worked hard and his strong work ethic helped him lead a successful career. He was respected by many coworkers and made many life-long friends throughout his career. Preceded in death by his wife, Debbie of 28 years, and his mother, Luada Mae Blair, Ray leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and a genuine zest for life. His personable and likable nature, combined with his dedication to living authentically, will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family will be hosting a funeral service on Friday, 12/8/23 at 10 am at MMS Payne in Claremore, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Downed Bikers Association, Twin Rivers Chapter in honor of Ray Cochran. The family extends their deepest appreciation for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.Show more
