Deacon Jackson

Deacon Jackson

Age - 78

November 30, 2023

Deacon Willie Lee Jackson, a cherished pillar of strength, wisdom, and love, completed his earthly journey on November 22, 2023, at Southeast Health Medical Center. Born on February 13, 1945, in the warm community of Arlington, Alabama, Willie was the embodiment of resilience and joy, leaving behind a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew him. Willie's story began as the beloved son of the late Town Jackson, Jr. and Edna Louise Jackson. His early years in Arlington laid the foundation for a life marked by faith, hard work, and devotion to family. Willie's educational pursuits at Annie Manie High School were just the beginning of a path that would lead him to explore and embrace the vastness of the world. In the heart of Columbia, Alabama, Willie's heart found its match in Vera Samson. Their love blossomed, and together they built a life in Cedar Spring, Georgia, woven with mutual respect, laughter, and unbreakable bonds. As a couple, they navigated life's twists and turns, their partnership a beacon of hope and unwavering support. Willie's professional journey reflected his adventurous spirit. After many dedicated years at Georgia Pacific, he embraced the open road as a truck driver, a career that allowed him to fulfill his passion for seeing the world. His retirement did not signify the end of his adventures but rather a new chapter where he could share stories and inspire others to pursue their dreams. A man of deep faith, Willie heard the Master's Voice on that tranquil Wednesday afternoon, guiding him to his eternal rest. Though his physical presence is no longer among us, the memories he created are indelible. Willie was a guiding light to his family, predeceased by his brother Town Jackson, III , and son Nathaniel Jackson, but his spirit lives on through his children: Louise Jackson, Velma (Wheeler) Jackson, Thelma Jackson of Thomasville, Alabama, Maggie (Eddie) Huffman of Montgomery, Alabama, Derrick Samson of Huntsville, Alabama, Leon (Stacie) Samson of Tennessee, and Starling Samson of Americus, Georgia. The Jackson family tree, robust and full of life, continues to flourish with his four sisters: Virginia Powe of Dothan, Alabama, Sarah (Kim) Richardson of Birmingham, Alabama, Claire (Larry) Smith of Arlington, Alabama, and Alvenia (Levon) Hathaway of Pine Hill, Alabama; his five brothers: Tony (Idell) Jackson of Arlington, Alabama, George (Carolyn) Jackson of Gordon, Alabama, Charlie (Ida) Jackson, Cleveland (Sarah) Lilly of Dothan, Alabama and Henry (Margie) Jackson of Carrollton, Georgia - who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and integrity. Willie's grandchildren: Chenetta (Chris) Voltz, Daril (Cherrelle) Jackson, Shaquille (Kelsea) Jackson, Katelynn Huffman, James Webster, Jr. Belinda Jackson, Dewayne (Callie) Jackson, Laquita, Brittney, Derrick, and Arlester; his great-grandchildren: Amelia Voltz, Christopher Voltz, Kynlee Jackson, De'Andria Jackson, Ja'Christion Jackson, Emberly Jackson, James Turner, Jordon, Tydarius, and Levi, are the apples of his eye - will forever be guided by his wisdom and the values he instilled in them as well as his aunt: Mary Bridges of Sacramento, California. Willie's life was a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of dreaming big. As Helen Keller once said, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. " Willie embraced this philosophy wholeheartedly, living each day as a daring adventure, filled with purpose and passion. As we celebrate the life of Deacon Willie Lee Jackson, we are reminded of his infectious smile, his unshakeable faith, and his boundless generosity. His journey may have reached its sunset here on earth, but the dawn of his impact is only just beginning to rise. Willie's story is not one of finality but of continuous inspiration - a call to live authentically, love deeply, and embrace every moment with gratitude. To the world, Willie may have been one man, but to his family, he was the world. His love, teachings, and spirit will continue to resonate through the generations, echoing in the laughter of his great-grandchildren, the resolve of his children, and the unity of his siblings. As we bid farewell to Deacon Willie Lee Jackson, let us honor his memory by living life to the fullest, just as he did. Let us find joy in the journey, strength in our faith, and love in our hearts. May his soul rest in peace, and may his story continue to motivate us all to reach for the stars and cherish every precious moment we are given.Show more

Thomas Woodward

Thomas Woodward

Age - 58

November 30, 2023

Thomas John Woodward, known to friends and family as Tom, lived a life as vibrant and robust as the classic rock anthems he loved. Born on June 12, 1965, in the heart of Minnesota, Tom's journey on earth came to a peaceful end on November 28, 2023, at UAB in Birmingham, Alabama, after an extended illness. His life was a melody of laughter, love, and the kind of honesty that could only be described as refreshingly blunt. Tom was a man of many passions, a true Renaissance man in a leather jacket and Harley boots. He could be found in the quiet hours of the morning, bow in hand, waiting for the perfect deer, or casting a line into a still lake, lost in the serenity of fishing. His love for reading was only matched by his enthusiasm for collecting baseball cards, a hobby that often reminded him of the simple joys of childhood. A die-hard FSU Football fan, Tom bled garnet and gold. He could recount every play, every touchdown, and, if you were lucky, he'd tell you about them with the excitement of a commentator during the final seconds of a tied game. Hockey games were no different, as he cheered and hollered, living and breathing every moment on the ice. But beyond the sports and the hobbies, Tom's greatest love was his family. He was a family man through and through, a sentiment echoed by the laughter of his grandbabies whom he adored more than words could express. After the loss of his first wife, Tom reconnected with his grammar school sweetheart, finding a love with her like the story from "The Notebook. " Tom's work ethic was as strong as his spirit. His time in the Army had instilled in him a sense of duty and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life. He was a man who stood by his word, a trait that earned him the respect and admiration of those who knew him. His honesty was as legendary as his sense of humor--if you didn't want the truth, you learned quickly not to ask Tom. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tonya Woodward, and his sister, Suzie Woodward. The legacy of his generous heart and gentle spirit is carried on by his loving wife, Laura Woodward, and his children, Justin Woodward (Alison) and Jessica Campany (Michael). His grandchildren, Nathan Woodward, Lucas Woodward, Rylan Campany, and Silas Campany, will grow up with stories of their granddad's adventures and his boundless love. Tom is also survived by his parents, Mike and Joanne Woodward; his siblings, Shelly Oie (Matt), Maria Holloway (Andy), and Joe Woodward (Nicole); his special sister-in-law, Gayla Kramer; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members who were touched by his kindness. Tom was a Christian, a man of faith who walked the walk and talked the talk--usually with a punchline or a wry smile. He lived his life as a testament to the values he held dear: love, generosity, and the kind of gentle strength that doesn't need to boast. Thomas John Woodward left this world much like a classic rock solo--resonating long after the last note has faded, leaving us all with memories that will continue to inspire, comfort, and bring a smile to our faces. He was a man who lived, loved, and left a legacy of laughter and honesty. Rock on, Tom. Your encore will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing you. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 1:00pm until 2:00pm, Thursday, December 7, 2023, prior to the service.Show more

Cynthia (Cindy) Kay Sutton nee Joschko passed away peacefully on November 19, 2023, in Dothan, Alabama. Cindy was born September 22, 1953, in LaPorte, Indiana to Melvin and Orla Joschko. Cindy spent her childhood years in LaPorte living in a duplex with her grandparents, Joseph and Lottie Joschko. It was there she had many happy years with her siblings Judy, Rick, and Patty. Along with her parents and siblings Cindy relocated to Coon Rapids, MN in the early 1970s. After losing her father at an early age Cindy became close to his brothers, especially her Uncle Jerry. Cindy married Dennis Hazelton in February 1974 and in 1976 gave birth to her only son Joe. Ron and Cindy quickly adapted to southern life and found happiness in their small home in the country. They enjoyed traveling to the Florida beaches and all the small-town festivals. Cindy was a gifted artist and drew amazing pictures that included a clipper ship and many of The Peanut's gang. However, it was her talent for the art of Crocheting that she will always be remembered for, she spent many long hours crocheting doilies, blankets, clothing, you name it. It is through her crocheting that her memory will live on for many years and numerous family and friends blessed to be in possession of some of her treasured art. Cindy also loved all animals, except spiders, and any animal that found their way to her porch was certain to be provided two things - a name and plenty of food.
