"Martha was born on February 10, 1947 in Vidalia, the daughter of Lillian Dailey and Willie Birden. She was a graduate of Concord High School and was a retired cook. Ms Birden was a member of New St. James Baptist Church where she served as an Usher. She enjoyed talking on the telephone with family and friends and looking out of the window. She is preceded in death by her parents; sons: Derrick Burton and Erick Burton, Sr. ; sisters: Gloria Hardin, Ora Payne and Thelma Singleton; and brothers: Bill Dailey and Charles Mitchell. Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughters: Sandra Burton (Kenneth), Nichelle Whitley (Gary) and Shameka Tucker (Moreece II); aunt, Marilyn Buckner; grandchildren: Erick Burton, Jr. (whom she raised), Martela Brown, Larry Brown, Jr. Gary Whitley, Jr. , Kendric Washington, Moreece Tucker III, Jasmine Burton, Keante Burton, Destiny Davis, Shandrieka Scott, Ebonee Whitley, other relatives and friends. Services for Claude A. "Andy" Pressgrove, Jr. , 87, of Natchez who died Wednesday November 29, 2023 in Natchez will be 11:00 a. m. Monday December 04, 2023 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bo Swilley officiating. Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:00 a. m. until 11:00 a. m. Monday December 04, 2023 at Laird Funeral Home Chapel. Andy was born July 30th 1936 in Grenada, MS to Doris Batson Pressgrove and Claude Andrew Pressgrove, Sr. He graduated Grenada High School in 1954, where he played football and ran track. Andy went on to graduate from MSU in 1958 with a BS in Business. Andy served as a First LT in the United States Army from 1958-1960. He moved to Natchez in 1960 where he was the president of American United Products. He spent 63 years selling Bridges and drainage products for various companies. Football was a huge part of Andy's life. Besides playing football, he officiated for over 40 years at high school and college level, retiring from the SEC in 2000. Locally Andy was instrumental in organizing Southwest Coaches and Officials Conference, National Football Foundation and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Andy served on the Board of Directors of the MS Road Builders Association and Mississippi Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club, he is also a Mason and Shriner. Besides football, Andy had a love for flying early in his life. He was an instrument rated commercial pilot with several thousand hours of fly time. He served on the Natchez Adams County Airport Commission. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 34 years, Irma Carmen Pressgrove; two daughters, Valerie Fore Givens and Dawn Fore Perry; and one grandson Payden Andrew Pressgrove, and his first wife Cissy Pressgrove. He is survived by five children, Tip Fore, Cap Pressgrove (Cathy), Ginger Cavin, Bill Pressgrove (Sabrina), Missy Forman (RT); son in law, Gus Perry; 11 grandchildren, Joey Givens, Ashley Henderson, Dylan Pressgrove, Duston Dore, Collin Dore, Carson Pressgrove, Conner Pressgrove, Eric Perry, Christopher Perry, Valerie Simpson, Samantha Forman, Brandon Perkins, and Kristen Foster; and 18 great grandkids. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Kenneth Stubbs, Tony Byrne, Senator Tommy Tuberville, Ken Whittington, and Jay Yates.Show more

Calvin Lynn Jackson, Sr. was born on April 12, 1965 in New Orleans, LA to the late Otis Ray Jackson, Sr. and Camille Jackson of Natchez, MS. He was baptized as a young boy in Jesus Name by his late father and continued to worship at the Church of the Lord Jesus Chris of the Apostolic Doctrine in New Orleans. Calvin departed this life on November 15, 2023, Houston, TX, leaving behind his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Angela Marie Hurst Jackson. To this union three children were born, Calvin Lynn Jackson, Jr. (Michelle); Jamar Lamont Jackson Sr. (fiance LaShawn); and Taieka Marie Atia Jackson (Joseph Jr. ). He was the grandfather of eight: Cal'Jane', Jamyra, Calvin III (Tre), C'Mani, Jamar Jr. , Joseph III, Joel, Jayden; and two great grandchildren: Ty-rann and Ig'Zalia. Calvin was known for his funny personality and for being a kind and caring husband, sibling, relative, and friend. He was devoted to his family and strived hard to provide. Calvin spent years caring for his mother, the late Camille Jackson, whom he fondly referred to as "Cookie". He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ray Ann Williams and Yvonne Jackson, one brother, Otis Ray Jackson, Jr. , and nephew Ray Anthony Williams. He leaves behind to cherish his memories three sisters: Elouise Clark (Eugene), Brender Bell (Herbert), and Barbara Maurice (Cedric); three brothers: Jerry Jackson (Andrea), Johnnie Jackson (Marion), and Melvin Jackson (Marilyn); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, and special friend to Calvin Jr. and the family, Tawaina Hayes. John Durden Druetta, Sr. died peacefully on Monday, November 20,2023, at his home. John was born September 21, 1922, in Natchez, MS to John Antonio and Laura Swayze Druetta. His parents both died in 1982. His older sister, Laura Elizabeth, died in 1962 at the age of 48. He is survived by his son, John Durden, Jr. (Margaret) from Crystal Springs, MS. John was a lifelong resident of Natchez. He graduated from Natchez High School in 1940. While in school he was a member of their high school band and played the tenor saxophone. After graduation, he worked at the Natchez water works plant. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in May of 1942. He served in the 15th Army Air Corp; 484th bomber group; 826th bomber squadron; 1020th base unit. He was an engineer on B-1 7 flights out of Italy. His plane was shot down in Hungary in 1945. He was captured and was a German POW for 9 months. He was in 3 prison camps before they were liberated: Barth, Nuremburg, and Moosburg. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning to Natchez in 1946 after the war, John went to work with the International Paper company and worked there until he retired in 1988. John was married to Jean Sandifer (Jay's mother); Dorothy Thames who died in 1991; and Doris Troino who died in 2013. John grew up in and attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez. While married to Doris, he also attended First Baptist Church in Natchez. John was very patriotic. You could always see American and Ex-POW flags being flown at his residence. He enjoyed watching sports, either football or baseball. Above all, John was an animal lover. He absolutely loved the last dog he had, Macie. Psalm 25: 7 Natchez- Memorial services for Alvin King, 66, of Natchez, who peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 in Natchez will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:30 a. m. at West Gate Funeral Home (George F. West, Sr. Memorial Chapel). Services are under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home. Alvin was born November 11, 1956 in Natchez, the son of Mable Watson King and the late Edward Lee King. He was a loving, kind, and caring brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Alvin was a 1974 graduate of North Natchez Adams High School and attended Alcorn State University. He was the Golden Hammer recipient at the Natchez Vocational School and was a man of many talents, but his greatest passion was building and construction. Alvin also worked at Armstrong Rubber Company. The love for his family and friends was one of his greatest pleasures. He never met a stranger. Spending quality time with his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews brought him unspeakable joy. Many days were spent cooking, watching movies and westerns and constant joking and laughter. Alvin also liked planting and sports. Although, there were constant threats of trade, he was an avid New England Patriots fan. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Lee King and brother, Arthur Lee Watson.
