Phyllis Costa, a beacon of love and laughter in her Brooklyn community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 2, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on July 30, 1940, in the same borough that she would call home for her entire life, Phyllis's presence was as constant as the Brooklyn Bridge itself. The heart and soul of her family, Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Clotilda and Vincent Vola, and her cherished husband, Dominick. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children, Frank, Dominick, Clotilda, Paul, and Anthony; her adored son-in-law, David; and her treasured grandchildren, Toniann, Samantha, Kimberly, A.J., Lisa, and Vincent. Her niece, Marie, along with countless friends who became as close as family, will also feel the absence of Phyllis's warm and generous spirit.Phyllis's journey through life was marked by her passion for beauty and care for others. As a teenager, she honed her skills at Sarah J. Hale Beauty School, a springboard into a world where she could spread joy and confidence. Though she chose a path as a waitress, serving her community became more than a job—it was a daily opportunity to share her kindness and humor.A woman of many interests, Phyllis found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a familiar face at the casinos and an enthusiastic participant in bingo nights. Her love for scratch-offs and the lottery was only matched by her passion for playing cards. Known for her culinary skills, Phyllis delighted in cooking for her family and friends, ensuring no one ever left her table hungry.Phyllis truly mastered the art of living. Her door was always open for a chat with neighbors or to offer a comforting cup of coffee. Her infectious laughter could light up a room, and her generous spirit knew no bounds. She was the embodiment of the adage, "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world," often attributed to Dr. Seuss.Loving, generous, and funny—these words encapsulate the essence of Phyllis Costa. She navigated life's ups and downs with grace and humor, touching the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Phyllis's life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of family, and the enduring bonds of friendship. In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Phyllis Costa, deeply loved, will forever remain a part of us.A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Phyllis Costa will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. We release her with heavy hearts to the embrace of the heavens, confident that her light will shine down upon us until we meet again.
