Robinson, IL

Marlin W. Wirey, 69, of Robinson, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the Robinson Rehab and Nursing facility after a brief illness surrounded by his family. Born August 4, 1954, in Lawrenceville, IL, Marlin was the son of William and Louetta (Moore) Wirey. Marlin was a longtime resident of Residential Developers Inc. , Mefford Cila Home in Robinson, where one of his favorite pastimes was playing pranks on the staff, leading to a lifetime ban on plastic snakes and fake rats. Marlin enjoyed spending time with his roommates and working at the Lawrence Crawford Workshop for 44 years. An avid jokester, when asked if he had a girlfriend or was up to no good, he would respond to both with a sly, "I'll never tell. . . ". Marlin had a profound zest for life, living each day to the fullest and always showing kindness, love, and compassion to family, friends, and strangers, alike. Never knowing a stranger, Marlin was quick to introduce himself to all passersby, his contagious laugh, welcoming smile, and signature eyeglasses bringing joy to everyone in his presence. He loved spending time with his family, often joining his nieces and nephews on the couch to watch TV and bribing them to sneak him one more Diet Pepsi. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of classic rock song lyrics and goofy jokes that never ceased to amaze and entertain. He was a multiple-time medalist in Special Olympic bowling and loved watching any sporting event he could get to. Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters & brothers-in-law, Perna Wirey, Billie & Greg Bowen, and Robert Schlosser; and brother, Kirk Wirey. Marlin is survived by his brothers & sisters-in-law, Kenneth & Debbie Valle (Graysville, IN), William & Jeanine Wirey (Cookeville, TN), and Keith & Rita Wirey (Robinson); his sister, Betty Schlosser (Minot, ND) and many nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p. m. on Thursday, September 14th, at the chapel of Highland Church of Christ. Visitors will be asked to enter through the southeast door under the awning. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation and be held at 6:00 p. m. at the church with his friend, Pastor Jeff Monroney, officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the "Lawrence Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens", and memorial envelopes will be available at the church. Marv Byrley

Age - 72

December 2, 2023

Marv Byrley, a cherished family man whose legacy is marked by his selflessness, love, and generosity, passed away unexpectedly at his home in St Marys, OH, on November 20, 2023. Born on May 1, 1951, in Celina, OH, Marv's early years took root in Celina, where he grew up embraced by the close-knit community. Eventually, he moved to Crawford County, IL, drawn to be nearer to his mother's family. There, Marv began a career marked by commitment and hard work. His professional life saw him contribute significantly to various companies; he spent several years at Hershey, EH Baare, and Tempco, before culminating his career at the Toyota plant in Princeton, IN, where he retired on his birthday in 2018. After three fruitful decades in Illinois, Marv returned to Ohio to reconnect with his father's side of the family. There, he continued to foster the warmth and bonds that were the hallmark of his existence. After all, Marv always placed family at the forefront of his life. His many photo albums, brimming with captured memories of relatives past and present, are a testament to the importance he placed on family history and the bonds that tie us. Generosity coursed through Marv's veins--if he had but a dollar, rest assured, it would be yours if you needed it. Beyond his familial commitments, Marv was an avid outdoorsman. When he had the opportunity, he enjoyed camping, fostering a love for nature's tranquility. His passion for collecting symbols of freedom and the wild--the eagle and the buffalo--reflected this long-haired country boy's spirit. This was further reflected in his love of motorcycles. For years, Marv found a serene escape on two wheels. Though a pause came with fatherhood, he joyfully returned to riding after retirement, embracing the freedom of the open road. A social creature, Marv spent years as a dedicated member of the Eagles Lodge #3329 in Palestine, which he transferred to the Eagles Lodge Aerie #767 in St. Marys upon returning to Ohio. His lifetime membership with the Eagles was a mirror to his devotion to community and camaraderie. Selfless, loving, and generous, these qualities barely begin to encompass the man that Marv Byrley was and the memory of him that lives on. The selfless love he so readily poured out continues to saturate the memories of everyone he touched. Marv Byrley will be deeply missed, but the richness of his life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Marv's life on Saturday, December 2nd, from 11:00 a. m. -2:00 p. m. at the Crawford County Christian Center (211 E Main St, Robinson, IL 62454). His cremated remains will be privately interred at Robinson New Cemetery.Show more

Bonnie Burtron

Bonnie Burtron

Age - 79

November 29, 2023

Bonnie Burtron, 79, of Robinson, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born on May 11, 1944, in Noble, IL, one of seven children born to Theodore Roosevelt Littlejohn & Cora (Melton) Littlejohn. Growing up in Hutsonville and Palestine, Bonnie displayed extraordinary dedication and selflessness in her early years, quitting school to support her large family. This commitment to care for those around her became a defining characteristic throughout her life. She married James Allen Burtron, Sr. , on September 23, 1960, and would spend the following years tending to their house and all who called it "home". Later, she found employment at Ettelbrick Shoe Factory, Crawford Electronics, and, most notably, Victor Dana, where she served faithfully for nearly 30 years. Bonnie was, by every measure, a woman of tenacity and dedication. A testament to her toughness was an incident where she broke two fingers at work but pushed through the pain despite being advised to seek medical attention. Her passion for work was unwavering, reflecting her strong character and indomitable spirit. Though her work ethic was second to none, she also knew how to enjoy herself, and her varied interests spanned a wide range of activities. For example, Bonnie adored dancing with her husband Jim in her younger years, a testament to the bond they shared. As the years went by, they spent more and more of their weekends camping and fishing, creating a myriad of joyous memories alongside their family. As she aged, she became an avid crocheter and embroiderer and most recently developed a passion for dot-coloring. Regardless of the season of her life, Bonnie always enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether basking in the warmth of sunny days or watching the various birds that made their way to the many bird feeders around her home. She was particularly fond of cardinals and hummingbirds, symbols of vibrancy and resilience that paralleled her own personality. Known for her practicality, Bonnie was neither wasteful nor extravagant. Yet, she was known for her generosity, regularly contributing to veteran organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In the twilight of her life, Bonnie attended the South Side Christian Church in Robinson, though she embodied the Christian virtue of love by way of the selfless care she gave others throughout her 79 years. Her family, particularly her grandchildren, were the beneficiaries of this dear woman's love. Bonnie Burtron's life was a testament to the power of love, the dignity of hard work, and the beauty of selflessness. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide all those she has left behind. She is survived by her children, Jesse Burtron (Robinson, IL), James Burtron (Robinson, IL), and Margaret McCord (Clinton, MO); by her grandchildren, Jesse, Amanda, Travis, Tiffany, Tommy, and Tony; by 17 great-grandchildren; by her sister, Vivian Draper (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 54 years, Jim; her parents, Theodore & Cora; her brothers, Thomas Littlejohn, James Littlejohn, and Robert Littlejohn, Sr. ; and by her sisters, Cora Berry and Margaret Littlejohn. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p. m. on Thursday, November 30th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow and be held at 1:00 p. m. on Thursday, with Pastor Chris DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in the Hardinville Cemetery.
