Marla Beth Maxson, age 65, was born January 13, 1958. She died April 20, 2023. Marla was the daughter of Dr. T. Reed Maxson and Virginia (Griffith) Maxson. Marla grew up in Warrensburg, MO attending local schools and graduating from University High School in 1976 and from UCM in 1983. She received an MBA from University of San Francisco CA in 1984. Marla joined the US Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and soon returned to Whiteman AFB as a Minute Man Operations Officer. After her military career Marla worked as a quality control supervisor for Tyson Foods in Sedalia, MO. She retired from Tyson's to care for her mother in the home in which she grew up. Marla was never happier than when she was cheering her favorite teams, the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. She treasured many mementos from each. Marla loved to travel; she also had some extraordinary hobbies and interests. She loved LEGOS throughout her life and her home boasted Lego Taj Mahal, Eifel Tower, Titanic, many Star Trek spaceships and an ever-expanding Christmas Village. Marla was also a survivalist, and she amassed a huge cache of equipment and food. She made many small survival kits for friends and family to keep in their cars or homes, in case of emergency. Marla will be greatly missed by her mother Virginia Maxson, sister Melany Laws (Harry), niece Casey Ikerd, dear friend Julie Getz and a host of loving nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her cats, Chase, Chance, Simba and Mellow. Marla was predeceased by her father, Dr. T. Reed Maxson, brother Tristan R. Maxson, and her beloved dogs Tiny and Shadow. We know Marla would appreciate being remembered by donations to KIVA Organization or to the Warrensburg Cat Advocates. These may be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. Marla has requested that the Starship Enterprise boldly go on her headstone.
