Robert Peacock

Robert Peacock

Age - 79

November 21, 2023

Robert T. Peacock "Bob" or "Bobby", passed away peacefully on November 14th. Born October 23, 1944, son of Robert J. and Leola T. Peacock. His life was to be full of challenges. Bobby excelled at sports in high school and the following is courtesy of Phil Beaney: "Bobby was an excellent pitcher in high school. He had a good fastball and a knuckle curve that dropped straight down. When he was using that pitch, he was the best pitcher in the area. I traveled with Bob a lot as a kid as he played on my father's town team. My father never had real good tires on his car so when we traveled, we would have a lot of flats. Bobby could change a flat tire quicker than anyone I ever knew. My father took him and a couple of other guys to a tryout for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bobby was the best pitcher there. They told my father that had Bob been one year older they would have taken him into their minor league system. Bob was 15 and you had to be 16 to be drafted, which at the time we didn't know. Bob was a great athlete. Excellent skier and ski jumper. Great baseball player and a good football player (#38). He played guard and was good at it. " He also excelled in partying and after attending Paul Smiths College ended up in the army, stationed in Korea, needing some new direction. Over the ensuing years he worked for his father at People's Dairy. Later Bob lived in Connecticut and subsequently he and his first wife Janice moved to Lake Placid and started A Touch of Glass and Lake Placid Self Storage. Bob especially liked buying old stuff including items of local nostalgia. "Brothers Peacock" have been known to bid against each other at auctions. Over the years additional businesses were added to the list and are in operation today with his wife MarieLine whom he met at Lachute Flea Market, Quebec in 2003. Bob was on his bicycle scouring the market for antiques at 4:30 in the morning and MarieLine had plenty of old stuff to sell in her trailer. That was the beginning of their 20 years together. While he was able, Bob enjoyed playing golf, listening to country music, driving his old car in the summer, and going to garage sales. But his favorite pastime was talking to people at the glass shop. Almost always cheerful even with his health issues, the last few years he was able to stay at home under the watchful eye of MarieLine and dedicated caregivers. He is survived by his wife MarieLine Desilets Peacock, siblings Gary (Jamie), Nancy and Greg. Nieces and nephews Adam (Molly), Ashley (Steve), Whitney (Adam), and Kevin as well as stepbrothers and sister - Bill, Tom (Anne), Charlie, Connie Rascoe. Canadian family includes Jean - Francois Desilets (France), Paul (Nina), and Normand (Sylvie). Bob was predeceased by his parents, first wife Janice, and stepsister Patty Rascoe. Bob was a man of courage who will be greatly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral service will take place at St. Agnes Church, Monday, November 27th at 10 am. The M. B. Clark, Inc. , Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY is in charge of arrangements. Benjamin Baird

Benjamin Baird

Age - 35

September 22, 2023

Benjamin Sullivan Baird, age 35, passed away Saturday, September 16th 2023 after a long illness. Ben attended Lake Placid and then Saranac Lake High School, graduating from the latter in 2007. Ben was an unconditionally loving friend to many in his community. He had an infectious smile that had a magical way of reminding others not to take life too seriously and also to be kind to one another. He was an unapologetic flirt, leaving the world with many remaining open-ended marriage proposals. Ben was an aficionado of United States Presidential trivia, with a lifelong goal of visiting all presidential memorial sites. His presidential knowledge was only surpassed by his passion for 90's cartoons, upcoming WrestleMania events, and the latest breakthroughs in the hunt for America's Most Wanted. Ben was a self-proclaimed bowling tycoon and will be remembered as one of the great 'Guess Who' board game sharks of all time. It has often been said that it takes a community to raise a child, and Ben surely was the embodiment for that ideal. More than anything, Ben cherished human connection and the love that he felt from his community. He has been described both as the mayor and town crier as he seemed to have a friend, a memory, and a shared story around every corner. Some of his most joyous times were spent with his closest friends Dierdre, Jessica, Josh, Mary Ann, and Baeleigh. Ben loved his family deeply including his dog, Sully. In his health and throughout his illness, Ben truly was a one-of-a-kind man. As he cut a swath through this world, he served as a constant reminder that we are all a product of the community that nurtures, supports, and loves us. Like all of us, Ben had some great, and then some more challenging days. He reminds us that we need to be there for each other. In the spirit of community, Ben will live on in the memories of the many that he crossed paths with. Ben was predeceased by his younger sister Hannah Elizabeth Baird, and he was laid to rest next to her during a private family service at the Saint Agnes Cemetery. Ben is survived by his parents, Cindy and Stuart Baird III, and his brothers Andrew and Stuart IV. The Baird family is creating a scholarship in Ben's memory.
