A few years later, Marjorie's strength and independence helped her raise Reed, as Fonton's deployment to Guam and then to Vietnam in 1966-1968. Marjorie worked for the Merchant Police during the June 9, 1972 Rapid City Flood, as a police dispatcher. Fonton retired from the U. S. Air Force as a Vietnam and Korean War Veteran. For the next 50 years, Marjorie and Fonton enjoyed their lives with month-long vacations in Hawaii and Florida at Reed and Joyce's home. Marjorie was an outstanding cook and had the gift of gardening.
