McDuffie County Samuel Tildon Downs, 83, Dearing, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on November 6, 2023. Samuel was born in Gibson, Georgia on August 16, 1940, grew up in Glascock County, moved to Harlem in 1969, lived most of his adult life in Harlem and relocated to the Dearing area just this year. He was Baptist by faith and a member of Marshall Baptist Church, Thomson, Georgia. He worked as a big machine mechanic with Yancy Brothers for 43 years until finally retiring. Samuel enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Downs, Sr. and Nancy Griffin Downs, and his brothers, Clifford Downs and Billy Downs and his first wife, Betty Jo Powell. Samuel's survivors include his devoted wife of 19 years, Elsie Keller Downs; his son, Bobby Olin Downs (Linda); his daughters, Sharon Ashcraft (Danny), Pamela Fitzgerald (James), Peggy Murray and Darlene Burke; his grandchildren, Robert Downs, Kimberly Ashcraft, Danny Ashcraft, Jr. , Christopher Downs, William Ashley Fitzgerald, Brittany McKee (Josh) and Shane Kent (Sherry); and his great grandchildren, Tristen Downs, Olin Downs, Addisyn McKee, Hamilton McKee, Tildon Downs, Tegan Downs, Fulton McKee, Taten Downs, Leila Kent, Makayla Kent, McKenzie Kent, Madison Kent and Christopher Kent and many great great grandchildren. Samuel's family will receive friends at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia on Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 9:00 a. m. until 11:00 a. m. Bernard Eugene "Ben" Miller, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home, on October 31, 2023. Born on March 7, 1949, in Cumberland, Maryland, Ben was a cherished member of his community and will be remembered fondly for his selfless, gentle, and kind nature. Ben graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1967 before bravely serving his country in the U. S. Army from 1967-1970 in Korea during the Vietnam Era. Upon his return, Ben utilized his hardworking and dedicated spirit as a supervisor for the City of Bowie, Maryland in the parks and grounds department. His diligent work ethic and commitment to his community were evident in the beautifully maintained parks and green spaces that he oversaw. Ben was raised in a Catholic family and he was also a proud member of the American Legion and Disabled American Vets. His interests were diverse, ranging from riding Harley Davidson motorcycles to watching sports, with a particular fondness for the Georgia Bulldogs. He also was an avid gun collector and enjoyed watching westerns and action movies. Ben was a passionate outdoorsman who loved landscaping and took great pride in creating beautiful outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy. Ben is survived by his loving wife, Jane Reynolds Miller. Together, they built a beautiful family, including their children, Elizabeth Twist (Joel) of Lilburn, GA, Chris McClellan (Jessica) of Coconut Creek, FL, Dwayne Boyd (Sharon) of Cumberland, MD, and Natalie Shelton (Jesse) of Appling, GA. Ben was a doting grandfather to Lukas, Selma, Kaelyn, Willow, Kara, Arya, Austin, and Ashton. He also leaves behind his brothers, Steve Miller (Janet) of Evans, GA, Fred Miller (Dee) of Ellerslie, MD, Ronnie Miller (Linda) of Phoenix, AZ, and Royce Miller (Renee) of Lincolnton, GA; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Leamon (Jim) of Cumberland, MD and Vickie Keller, also of Cumberland, MD and many nieces and nephews. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Zelma Bridges Miller, his brother, Larry Miller, and his granddaughter, Ashley Carder, his in-laws Victor and Maryland Reynolds, his brothers-in-law, Jim Reynolds (Bessie), Eddie Reynolds (Barb) and Mickey Keller and niece, Ashley Keller. Despite these losses, Ben's life was one marked by joy, love, and the creation of many beautiful memories. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all those who knew him. Ben's life was a testament to his selfless nature, his gentle spirit, and his kind heart. He lived his life with a quiet strength and a steadfast commitment to his family and his faith. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Ben Miller's life was a tapestry of love, service, and dedication. He touched countless lives and left the world a better place for his presence. His legacy will continue to be celebrated by his family, his friends, and the communities he served so faithfully. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will endure in the hearts of those who loved him. McDuffie County James Randolph "Randy" Griswell, 78, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on October 31, 2023. Randy was born on the Old Beckworth Place in Glascock County, Georgia on March 7, 1945, and has lived in McDuffie County most of his life. He retired as a Supervisor for the Water Department at the City of Thomson. In Randy's earlier years, he was an avid Coon Hunter and treasured his coon hounds. He also enjoyed other hunting, including deer hunting, and enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Clyde Griswell and Nannie Lee Williams Griswell and his sisters, Ann Hughes Cowart, Faye Hughes Whiting and Lavon Griswell Wren. His survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Ann Malcom Griswell; his daughters, Judy Hobbs (Mike); Kay Lord (Doug) and Tonya Adams (Mark); his brother, Dennis Griswell; his grandchildren, Ben Hobbs (Shardonnay), Jordan Hobbs (Kaylee), Mayleigh Adams, Ethan Hobbs, Kaytie Lord (Joshua Stagner), Elizabeth Hobbs, Madison Adams (Cam McClelland) and Macy Lord (Evan Holbrook); great grandchildren, Preslynn Hobbs, Jenson Hobbs and Adalyn Hobbs and a special friend, Tommy Phillips, who was his hunting buddy and like a brother to him.
