Age - 96
October 6, 2023
Wallingford, CT
Marjorie L. Adams, 96, of Wallingford, knitted her way into arts and crafts Heaven on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Marjorie was born in Burnley Lancashire, England on July 18, 1927, a daughter of the late Percival and Mabel (Tattersall) Leigh. Formal education ended at age 14 back then where she found herself to be top girl in her class, similar to valedictorian. She quickly found employment in a factory converted to munitions for the war effort. She fostered a love of dancing and would frequently go to the dance halls to see "The Boys" off to war. Observing many opportunities in America, she and her brother, Norman, decided to emigrate under the sponsorship of her cousin, Trudy Rizzo. Arriving on a Friday, (they took a prop plane), she reported to work Monday morning as the law required sponsorship and employment then. Always seeking to expand her comfort zone she endeavored to enjoy the game of golf where she met Louis Adams. Shortly after they married on October 7, 1950. Amazingly after nine years she became the mother of four sons and one daughter. She became a single mom and valiantly kept her family together through some very tough times, sometimes working three jobs simultaneously, including selling Avon, waitressing, inventory control, and finally retiring from Choate Rosemary Hall Dining Service in 1992. Despite her hardships she always had joy in her heart, a smile on her face and greeted everyone with a "how are you, love?"In retirement she ramped up her love of crafts, knitting an untold number of baby outfits, sweaters, preemie baby caps, and Christmas novelties while continuing her love of reading. She once tried to read 365 books in a year but fell short at 300!Mom, we honor and thank you for your unselfish love, instilling in us an unmatched work ethic, a genuine love of life, filled with humor and laughter, respect, empathy for others, and strong family ties. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Edward Leigh Adams (Holly), Kent Adams, Dean Adams (Donna), and Victoria Scott (Patrick); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Andrew Adams and her brother, Norman Leigh. Marjorie's family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 9 am until 11 am. Her funeral service will be held at 11 am in the funeral home. Interment in the In Memoriam Cemetery will be private.
